52-30 Texas A&M Crushes Tech Post Game Thread

This was ugly...our defense just didn't come out to play. Ruffin has his work cut out. Taylor Potts didn't help with three turnovers inside Aggie territory. Now, the best we can do is play spoiler and hope for a mid level bowl.

Mid-level bowl is a long shot at this juncture. I think we change the motto of our bandwagon to “Texas Bowl or Bust!”

Sorry Seth, you are not allowed to go watch TTU again.

Last time I saw you at a game, we were on our way to a similar game as tonight in the Cotton Bowl.

No more Potts

Our defense still needs a lot of work on run defense. A&M showed how vulnerable we are to the run. But truly speaking we lost the momentum in this game with Potts’ horrible play. In a close rivalry game like this its difficult to come back after you go down by 2 touch downs and that’s what happened to us today. The turnovers resulting from these terrible plays by Potts and offense were largely responsible for this momentum change. Hope we turn a new chapter with Doege and Sheffield and never have to see Potts in a red raider uniform again.

Potts backfoot theory

I wish that was his only flaw

by oldschoolraider on Oct 24, 2009 9:46 PM CDT via mobile reply actions

This really hurts

I thought we were past this kind of play. So inconsistent. Penalties, drops, interceptions, no defense whatsoever. This one hurts.

by lawraider on Oct 24, 2009 9:47 PM CDT reply actions

NOT READY TO PLAY A&M

Leach needs to return this year’s salary to the university. He is big on his own PR but his coaching is as inconsistent as he is a person—a roller coaster ride. Can he ever win two big games in a row??? No, he wins big, i.e. Nebraska, then he slacks off. This I blame on ole jut jaw Leach and Ruffin McNeil. In the future, keep Potts on the sidelines. Too bad “Sticks” was not well. He does a better job inspiring the team than any of the Tech coaches do. We need a coach with consistency. Receiver were dropping passes like they were playing to lose in order to win a bet. It was hard to listen to on the radio, honestly. I turned it off before game over.
This one is tough on the players and the fans. This was about pride. This was A&M AT HOME.
I will continue to support the Raiders always but Leach is a Goof Ball.

I am at Hance's office

monday morning asking for tuition money back. Worst display of coaching I have ever seen. I agree with others now, we will never make big time while Leach is coach.

worst comment i have read so far

leach has done better than anyof our coaches. just imagine what would happen if we had the recruits a&m or UT or oklahoma state or oklhaoma have. we the little we have, we have really done alot… so i dont agree what you say and 95% think the same

by cfraider on Oct 24, 2009 11:10 PM CDT up reply actions

He does good with the recruits granted

but he was giving Doege calls from the sideline of screen passes in the 4th quarter while we were down. That is not good coaching. And the going for it on 4th down is getting ridiculous…. it worked out decent tonight, but that doesnt make it right. And if we had won tonight he would have been as good as Dykes, but until we win another game, techically he’s not as good…. yet. Leach is not worth the money he is getting. He is not a bad guy to have around, but not worth being one of the top 5 paid coaches in the nation. My big beef here is Ruff though. My problem with Leach tonight was 4th down attemps in the first half, keeping Potts in, and calling screens.

by RdrPwr on Oct 24, 2009 11:44 PM CDT up reply actions

wtf?

Leach is raising the profile of our program, for now, that is a good thing. This loss SUCKS make no mistake. This one puts us 2 steps back and gives credence to the nay-sayers that were slotting us FIFTH in the Big 12 South this season. But all that said, Leach hasn’t had a losing season yet, and hopefully will continue that, AND you’re left with the all important question if you are calling for Leach’s head:
If not Mike Leach, then WHO?
There are only a few top flight coordinators that I think could MAYBE (and I stress MAYBE) be a step up, and as much as I love my school, we’re still not more than a “lateral move” for any head coaches we’d have a realistic shot at. This has been a TERRIBLE season (not completely for record yet, but just in terms of trash we’ve had to deal with) but I’ve been looking ahead to next season pretty much from the beginning. But calling for Mike Leach’s head right now is premature, especially if we as a fanbase weren’t willing to sell out the stadium for this game.

by HeeroTX on Oct 25, 2009 12:57 AM CDT up reply actions

I have always been a Leach fan

but it seems like his coaching this year has took a turn for the worse. But oh well, I’ll back off it until I see what happens next week. My main concern about Leach is that he is one of the top 5 highest paid coaches in America now. How do you get that kind of money with no hardware to back it up? And my tuition alone jumped up by a thousand dollars this semester, some of that has to be going to his new contract. That being said, I wouldnt be so terribly down on Leach if he wasnt making the big bucks like he is. When you’re getting paid that much to do a job, I expect the job to be done to near perfection. Maybe I’m just picky…. but oh well.

I am pissed because now I have zero argument for anyone when the typical Tech argument comes up. It will take at least two years to get the media to buy in to us after this, and I don’t think that’s an exagerration. We can’t ask for, nor receive, any chits in the national respect argument until we run a table.

by Tech92 on Oct 24, 2009 9:48 PM CDT reply actions

wow

I don’t know what frustrates me more…the horrible radio signal, the horrible defense, or the fact that I’m out of beer.

Who were those guys tonight? How can we have such a major letdown? This team is so spastic is drives me crazy. I can’t remember having such an up and down season. I guess Doege is our guy for now but we really need Sticks back.
What was up with the dropped passes and poor tackling? Ahhh….I could go on and on.

GOOD THING NO TV

Like I said, I could not listen to it on the radio with a bad signal but it was a good thing this was not on TV. Leach shooting off his mouth to everybody bit us in the butt. The Aggies came prepared to play—give them that—and Leach gives them plenty of incentive with his smart aleck mouth. Raiders were too full of themselves and that is where Leach fails them miserably. His gambling, his lack of focus, his ADD, will never work toward consistency.

Talked to a Aggie friend mid-3rd qtr. He watched the KState v atm game online during the week. Said KState was busting thru their O-line like they were “swiss freaking cheese”.
Can’t understand how our defense can be so inconsistent. This one will hurt for a while. I can take OU loss last year. But this is simply rediculous.

This game should have been set up perfectly for a freaking BLOW OUT! And by that I mean Tech blowing aTm out of the stadium. Holy crap!

Typical Tech

I’ve been seeing this kind of performance since 1989. Tech is the most inconsistant team I know. I live in Austin and I may become a UT fan. They are a real football team, consistent, winners, and up for every game. They’re in the hunt for the national title every year.

1. Tech will never win a big 12 title
2. Tech will never win a national title
3. Tech will never have a Heisman winner.

Tech is a school for lower middle class and working class people. We will never have the resources or recruiting to match us with UT. It’s just the facts and it sucks but it’s the way it is. I like winning, but Tech is not the team that’s going to make that happen consistently. I can’t recall the last time UT was beaten by more that 3 scores. We don’t have what it takes to compete at this level.

by taraebeth on Oct 24, 2009 11:54 PM CDT up reply actions

it's not being a fairweather fan

I lived through the Spike Dykes era where he seemed to be more interested in being the most liked coach in the country than winning games. It was from this time that the “typical Tech” comments started to fly. We would win big one game and then get blown out the next, year after year. I was hoping that Leach would change things but Setencich kept the team in the, win one lose one racket.
I’ve continued to hope for something better from my team but it just isn’t happening. I don’t know what the solution is but my team keeps giving up on me, just no consistency.

by CoachT on Oct 25, 2009 12:36 AM CDT up reply actions

COACH T

Leach will keep Tech competative,or the 3 rd-4 th best team in the Big 12 south. Occasionally we will have a year like last year. Leach is learning to be a head coach [at our expense]. I think it is safe to say after 10 yrs.,this is about what we are going to get year in, year out. If we want to average 4.5 conference wins a year, we keep him,if not, we will have to make a move. We could be a lot worse off, but if you want the Big 12 South title,, I agree he is not the coach . I have not been a Leach fan for 3-4 yrs now, because i didnt see any consistency in improving on his coaching mistakes. I’ve said it more than once, that I think Leach is a good offensive coach for Tech, but not the head coach for Tech. I think Leach is lazy in his game time preparations, and generally overall in a lot of the duties as a head coach, alumni speaking engagements, coaching selections,etc.. Stay a Tech fan, I’m really pissed at Leach and our overall performance tonight, but like everone says ’’ thats Tech"".. Things will change for the best for Tech. By the way, my first Tech game was ’65 or "66 at the Jones watching Donny Anderson and Tech play Arkansas, think i was like 9 or 10 yrs old. Stay SCARLET AND BLACK we need good people and support during these times,,and there have been a lot of them for me during the years.—-Mark ’75 alum

With all the injuries on the O line and lack of depth on the D line as well as injuries we have Played remakably well. It was bound to happen that we would lose a grudge game like this during such a turbulent season. We’ll bounce back. It could be worse. We could be Nebraska.

by cfraider on Oct 24, 2009 10:18 PM CDT up reply actions

Two INTs one fumble. But the timing and location of those turnovers are what turned the game. We could have been up 21-7 at one point in the first qtr. As it was, aTm took the turnovers and abused our defense. The real problem was the abysmal run defense. We couldn’t tackle, and when we did the get the ball we killed ourself with penalties, drops and bad throws. Horrible game. We were never a threat to win this one, which is shocking.

Okay, the sky has not offically fallen, but the cables are fraying. This season has been a wild, wild ride through seven games. We look like world beaters one week and wife beater’s the next.

Our defense isn’t near a competent as the horrible Neb offense would have led us to believe. We aren’t that bad, either. Just a typical Tech defense that will get eaten alive by teams who know how to move the ball. Teams like Texas, Houston, aTm, OSU, OU and Kansas. I hope, HOPE, we can get by either OU or OSU and KU. I know we can’t win all three (and don’t tell me I am not a good fan for that). This team has done nothing to prove we can stop the good teams.

Can we score a lot? Yep, when we aren’t getting in our own way. But through more than half of the year, we do that more than we don’t. I know this…if we come out and destroy a team, I certainly won’t read a lot into it this year.

by Tech92 on Oct 24, 2009 10:33 PM CDT reply actions

I agree on all points. I am hopeful that we will refocus and pull off a couple of “upsets” in the remaining weeks. We have a difficult stretch with KU, OSU, and OU, but I feel we can pull off a victory or two in there.

I have looked at this season as a rebuilding season since we closed out last year. I feel a close Texas game caused an immediate rise in expectations . . . expectations that weren’t significantly re-calibrated until tonight. There is some misery right now, but I try to be optimistic for 2010 when everyone else in the South will be having there rebuilding year.

Jones Stadium Chant

from Red Raiders.com

The Texas Tech fans couldn’t have been clearer as the second quarter drew to a close.

"No more Potts," their chants rose from Jones AT&T Stadium. The sometimes quarterback had just thrown his second interception of the half, a pass from the 17-yard line that Texas A&M’s Terrence Frederick picked off in the endzone for a touchback.

4. Potts definitely won’t play again
5. Potts won’t play again before Leach suits up and takes the helm
6. Kansas is coming to town next week and Jones will be rockin’
7. All the planning we did for KU this week will pay off next Saturday
8. We only need one more win to make a bowl game. A&M needs 2.
9. We should get Sticks back before Okie State

A Real DC

We need 3 things from Leach right now. We have been asking for 2 of these since the last 6 years and he has failed to deliver:

1. No more Potts
2. A real Defense with a DC: Even an average DC we will do well because our offense is so good, Ruff was a good transition DC but to be a powerhouse we need a specialist in the future
3. A running game.

I am not sure if we will get all or any of these fixed by the end of the season or whether Leach will get too busy with his agent to look around for what jobs are available around to make the changes necessary. This will hurt our recruitment for sure. We were closing in as the number 2 recruitment choice after UT, closing gaps on A&M and Leach, Potts , Ruff and company blew it, then we have some morons that blame it on our resources without realizing that our athletic budget is bigger than some of the ranked programs and many of the big XII programs instead and its beyond ridiculous that with so much reosource and the talent pool of Texas we cannot consistently field a top 25 team. Lets stay optimistic and hope that we end up with a respectable season and beat the heck out of a team that we play in the bowl games.

Can’t imagine Leach will be a super hot commodity this off season. Except a midling places like Louisville, Virginia or Maryland.

Batch averaged 5.3yds on 11 carries

It’s not that we don’t have it. We just don’t use it…properly. UH game was best example.

I am still wondering why we have Ruffin. I know a lot of folks are on his side of things, and that’s okay. But we look decent against garbage offenses, and get skewered against any offense with a heartbeat.

I have never been a fan of his and have never felt Tech would contend with a bend don’t break mentality. Well, we broke. And for the third time against the only three teams with a real chance to beat us. Time for a change after the season. Not now, but after the season.

Until we get a defensive coordinator who does more than sweat and chest bump his players, we will always flirt with this kind of result. I think Ruffin is probably a great guy and I am sure the players love him. But they love Jim Zorn in Washington and that’s not going real well either. I don’t want the players to love our coach, I want them to fear and respect him so much they will sleep on hot coals for him. I don’t think our guys have that fire.

That said, I also don’t think our talent on defense is all that much to write home about either. That is probably just as big a problem. We got pushed around, punched, kicked and spit on by the Aggies. And did nothing about it. Puke.

I'm off the Ruff wagon...

I’ll let him get away with laying an egg against OU last year and even Ole Miss. Those were two really good teams. But there’s no excuse for what happened tonight in my mind.

by TT4EVER on Oct 24, 2009 11:16 PM CDT up reply actions

what we need...

We need a better line coach, PERIOD. I think Ruff is a fine DC, not “super-great” but fine, but our lines are CONSISTENTLY terrible (and this year, that’s clearly on BOTH sides of the ball). The fact of the matter is the only way we’re “poaching” a DC is if we correctly scout one from the lower ranks, since a “top” DC isn’t going to move to our team. But what we really NEED is for someone to improve our line play.

by HeeroTX on Oct 25, 2009 1:19 AM CDT up reply actions

true

But the biggest problem is we’re recruiting against UT (richest program in the country right now?) and OU at MINIMUM. (other major programs are also poaching from Texas obviously) Our recruiting is improving (if we can hang onto our 2010 class, it’s not bad right now) but it’s simply unrealistic to think we’re going to get a coach that will out-recruit Mack Brown & Bob Stoops RIGHT NOW. (I hate Mack Brown, and I think he is an awful x’s & o’s man, but that guy can recruit & sell like no one else. I’d LOVE to peel Muschamp off of UT, but that’s not going to happen)

Best case, we need to grab our best fr, so, & jr’s, on the line and get them real game time, RIGHT NOW. We need to coach up next year’s linemen now, because if we let our line get gutted again we’re going to lose a good opportunity next year.

by HeeroTX on Oct 25, 2009 10:25 AM CDT up reply actions

I wasn't there

I know you can’t put a loss on a QB.. but, I like Ruff! I think Ruff is the best thing that’s happened to the defense in many many years. I’m a big believer in momentum. I think Potts killed any momentum for the team.

I won’t feel good about another game this season till Sticks is back.

Ruffin and the D

I don’t know what to say about Ruff and the D. Against UT, they were gutsy and looked great with a lot of starters hurt in a hostile environment. Now, we see a basically healthy unit come out against an Aggie team at home and play like complete crap. We’ve seen Ruffin get the guys up and then have them not show up. He needs to get a more consistent effort from his unit. If he can’t over the rest of this season, I’ll join those calling for a new DC.

by BTownTechster on Oct 24, 2009 11:11 PM CDT reply actions

What happened...

I’m not sure Ruff was even there. His defense was horrible and has had much tougher opponents in the past. I would be one to say we need to be at least interviewing candidates at this point.

A part of me feels bad for potts. He has stuggled a lot but I remember at least two 4 interception games by Graham. Chanting “no more potts” seems pretty harsh. Let’s see what Doege can do with a full week of preparation with the first string.

ME too

I feel bad for him as well. It’s nothing personal at all, but they guy obviously just cannot play QB for Tech. Ever. It just sucks for him that there were such high expectations for him and he let everyone down. He will probably transfer to some D-1AA school now. He really has no other choice cause he won’t be playing for us again… poor guy

Just got back to my room. Can’t believe I drove 400 miles for that.

Utter and complete domination by their O-line. No pressure, no contain, no tackling. I saw one sack and maybe 2 passes defended. That’s it.

Potts looked exactly like he did against UNM. Open men he didn’t see, throwing balls right to defenders. The two scores he got were 5-yarders with excellent effort by the receivers for YAC. I saw Von Miller line up against Waddle several times and he got nothing. Winn waved him by a couple of times and also committed two major fouls in the 1st quarter.

Overall, just disgusting. Good thing we’ve got Baylor so we can win 6. Maybe

Student section out of hand tonight

Obviously Potts had a bad game. But the nasty yells at him from the bleachers probably made his game 10X worse. I feel sorry for the guy. Yes, we need Sticks. But yelling at your own player is terrible. I was ashamed.

I kept my mouth shut

until halftime. I ended up in a ticket section somehow though haha. The only time I yelled at Potts while he was on the field was when he threw behind guys on the screen, or stood fumbled because a guy touched him. Even then it was just “doege” one time and it was done. I didnt hear the crowd booing Potts too much at all though, more the team in general. Can’t say they didnt deserve it.

by RdrPwr on Oct 25, 2009 12:04 AM CDT up reply actions

Yea I booed

It was frustrating watching Potts out there struggling, while all of us students where yelling our asses off. First possession of a&m and our defense comes up with a fumble(IN a&m territory), only for the offense to come out and move backwards. I started yelling for Doege in the 2nd half because it was obvious he was not going to get it done. Also there was noticeable change in the energy from the whole stadium after Potts left. Sorry that you don’t think we should voice any concern but that performance is inexcusable, but we definitely were not the only ones that wanted it.

BOTTOM LINE-

It was Leach’ decision to start him at the first of the season, and tonight{of which i dont blame him}. I dont blame Pottts, he’s doing the best he can. I dont think Potts was the right choice from the beginning, thats poor evaluation of a players talent and personnel by Leach. Leach has had since last Feb. to get his ducks in line, especially a qb in his system????

by Dr. Mark on Oct 25, 2009 2:20 AM CDT up reply actions

Potts played really bad tonight. Just about everyone on the team did. Our O-line wasn’t even asking people for ID, let alone actually trying to stop anyone from getting in the backfield. Our receiving corps, which started the game well, caught a case of the dropsies in the second half. And our defense blew their load on the first play and was done for the rest of the night. Team game, the team lost, etc.

I hate to be too hard on Potts. I’d like to think that his confidence is in the tank, he’s rattled by being out, apparently losing his starting job, and all the mean things people are saying about him. All of those are nice and have nothing to do with football. I’m not saying they don’t matter, I’m just saying that when you have to make excuses based on someone’s mental/emotional state you’re pretty much admitting defeat. Potts can’t handle the big time. Obviously you hate to see anyone fail when they are trying hard to succeed. I don’t doubt that Potts is trying really hard. Sometimes the cards just aren’t there, though.

Going forward you’ve got to play Sticks and Doege.

It’s Leach’s fault ultimately for putting someone out there who wasn’t really prepared or up to snuff enough to carry the burden, just like the 500+ yards of offense given up to A&M at the Jones is on him (but more directly on Ruffin).

by merrik on Oct 25, 2009 2:51 AM CDT up reply actions

im sorry for potts too… i was one of the guys shouting at him. the truth though is that we have all gave him props for 5 games already. i have supported him until after the houston game. the crowd was just tired of looking at a QB making his same mistakes over and over again. we are just tired of his screens and misreads of the defense. he is so scared out there. he looks more like a middle man just handling the ball to who ever is the closest. he does not have what it takes to be a tech QB and that is just the truth. there is no air raid with him. his longest throw was 15 yards i believe. thats just pathetic for college football.

by cfraider on Oct 25, 2009 12:21 AM CDT reply actions

Congrats to A&M.

I’m ready to move on. The Aggies did what Tech couldn’t do….tackle and execute ball security. Congrats to them for finally playing up the their talent level.

Can we officially close the book on the Taylor Potts experiment and say that Michigan was probably a better choice for him.

by ttu_porters on Oct 25, 2009 6:12 AM CDT reply actions

I got a good night’s sleep, went to church, and made this list of my thoughts…
1)Defense: Ruff’s stock took a hit last night. I would be surprised (but not shocked) if Ruff survived another opponent hanging 500+ yards on Tech. It would be less surprising for the D to play poorly the rest of the year and Ruff to be fired in the off-season. However, I fully expect this to be fluke with the D keeping Tech in the game from here on out. After all, we don’t really know what’s happening behind the scenes. Maybe the whole team (starters and backups) had the swine flu, SARS, and the avian bird flu. My gut instinct is that Ruff is still the best option. As for replacing him, are you going to pay the next guy in ‘Both Feet In’ merchandise? I was under the impression that funds were tight.
2)Doege: I read on the game thread that Doege was getting his ankle looked at before that last series (that I believe ended in a fumble). I guess Doege and Sheffield being hurt would be the only reason to play Potts again.
3)WR Drops: I can’t blame the receivers because Potts was on the other end of the pass.
4)Potts: My theory is that he hasn’t been the same since that H2H hit by Sergio Kindle. Arguing otherwise brings Leach’s ability to select a QB into question. I’m not saying that Potts was concussed for the past month. Maybe he adjusted his approach to the game (for the worst) after that hit. My hope is that his problems weren’t visible during practice. I’ll always error on the side of whatever is pro-Leach. We could lose every game (except Baylor because I paid a lot of $$$ for those tickets) and I’d be okay with where he’s brought us.
5)Fans: Please go to the Baylor game in Dallas. You already paid for the tickets. In short, don’t be a fair-weather fan. If you don’t know what that looks like, look for the sudden influx of TAMU golf shirts at work on Monday. You will be just like them if you don’t go to the game. Thanks.
6)Leach Haters: You suck.

Our next DC should be...

Erin Andrews!!! That should help with recruiting, but I’m not sure if the D-Line would play any better.

by Quatroux on Oct 25, 2009 10:41 AM CDT up reply actions

Ruff would not be fired. He’s far too valuable for our program in what he brings in recruiting experience. If a move is made, I think it’d be down to the position/assistant HC, and another DC brought in.

I would like to see a change in scheme. Not a major change, just a little one with a few little qualifications:
1) No more 10 yard cushions. Play the corners at the line and risk getting beat deep.
2) When you’re facing a running QB, play spy on him. Get a speedy headhunter of a LB, S, or whatever in there to go and hit that QB as soon as he breaks the pocket on those draws and scrambles.

by kayakyakr on Oct 25, 2009 11:44 AM CDT up reply actions

the permanent 10-yard cushion zone defense

continues to confuse and anger me, especially considering that we typically keep both safeties at least 15 yards deep.

Being at the game...

and now back in Plano thank the lord I can tell you Tech had little fire going in to this game. The crowd seemed out of it also. Definitely one of the most boring game day atmospheres I’ve seen in a long time. I don’t want to take anything away from the aggies because they flat out kicked our asses from go. Our coaching was horrible in word and we have very little play makers on this team offensively and defensively. This season will be tough finish at 7-5 but lets just look at it as we had no QB and defense. Leach has to step up his game plan and try to introduce new plays that mean running the ball more. Our receivers are just okay in my opinion. No real stars or play makers anywhere on this squad. I just can’t keep from thinking about how Leach selected Potts to be our QB in ‘09. What did he see in this kid’s skill set? This is a hard loss to swallow but we will prevail and hopefully we learned something from it. No consistency at all with this team. Sad day.

I believe that 100%, that’s the only logical thing I can think of. Take the blue jerseys off during practice then see who’s got talent…..

by KWashburn on Oct 25, 2009 3:51 PM CDT up reply actions

Potts has some major mental issues. He did well during practices before the season and was the one on scholarship. That’s why he was picked. Unfortunately, he can’t perform well under pressure at all and the coaches knew about that ahead of time, which is super frustrating. Also he is scared to run and can’t go through the receiver progression. That just doesn’t cut it in our system.

And not sure how 1 player can completely demoralize an entire team, but that’s sure what it felt like Sat night in the stadium. You knew as soon as we didn’t monopolize on the fumble that we were having major issues.

by RaiderChick06 on Oct 26, 2009 1:01 PM CDT up reply actions

Very good question...

Of course, TP has been considered to have all of the “tools” since before coming to Tech…
I’m just wondering if you stand in the pocket, and go through all of your progressions, and have a strong arm to make all of the throws (all while wearing a blue jersey and off-limits to contact), then maybe you can look pretty good…
But then when your at game speed and you take a few vicious hits in the head, and they’re coming after you almost every play, it’s a whole different ballgame…
Maybe in practice, if Sheff or others break the pocket and start moving around, then that doesn’t look as “good”….???

by Houston Raider on Oct 25, 2009 4:12 PM CDT up reply actions

Anyone who follows Red Raiders in the offseason knows that it is very rare for Leach to lock down a starting QB early on

Even Harrell had to put up with a position “battle” ginned up by Leach as a motivational technique each of his returning offseasons. Potts, on the other hand, beat out Sheffield and Loucks fairly early in the process, and from the noises made by Tech watchers in the media (Williams from the LAJ, for example) it was pretty much a no-brainer to anyone watching practice. But in the immortal words of Allen Iverson, “What’re we talkin’ about? Not a game, we talkin’ about practice. How the hell can I make my teammates better by practicing?”
