I'm excited about Doege getting to start!

You know it's amazing, I was listening to the game on aggie radio, and even they could see that our offense literally, and immediately changed for the better once Potts was replaced.  That sucks, but it's true.... c'est la vie.  Now that we won't be seeing Potts anymore, I'm excited to see Doege lead this team.  I think he'll do just fine, and easily better than Potts.   Is anyone else pumped up about this?  Or is everyone worried.  I think we have a lot to be excited about.

I'm excited, not worried

Doege brought a new energy to the stadium when he stepped on the field on sat. He wud’ve had more completions had the receivers made simple grabs. Overall, I think he was pretty neat.

Its not the offense I’m worried about as much as the defense. 52 points was just a shell shock. I really hope we get 5 sacks this weekend to make up for it.

Here's my concern

With a pourus O-line who will be there to replace Doege IF/WHEN he gets injured? Do we just go to the wildcat to Batch and Jeffers?

I'm not worried about the offense

Doege, Potts, or an injured Sticks could probably all three lead our offense to posting 30 points…maybe that’s a little sarcastic. However, I am concerned, as ttuagr stated, about where do we go if/when he gets hurt. Our line’s already allowed (it’s not all their fault but a portion is their’s) two QB’s to go down with injuries.

Even if Doege or Potts or whoever starts has a great game, the defense CAN NOT do what they did last week if we hope to win against KU.

Excited.... and a little worried...

But mostly excited. A potential glimpse into the future for our Offense…
Also looking to see how our Defense responds to last week… We’ve got to move up from there…

I’m nervous about Doege starting. Can EVERY Tech QB be really, really good on a given roster? I’m not so sure about that…not that he’s not, but the odds just seem really bad for all three of our three-deep players to be able to make a solid positive impact. We’ll know for sure by about 6 p.m. Saturday…

Don’t you mean two out of the three three-deep players (at least where QB’s are concerned)?

I have been waiting for this ever since I heard Sheffield was hurt. I wanted Doege to start against A&M, and I think we would have won that game had he started. I’ve said this a million times, but the kid has one of the most beautiful releases I have ever seen…smooth, fast, he can really spin the ball. He just looks a lot more natural at the position than Potts does. He is also much more mobile. I couldn’t be more excited about him getting the start. I think as long as he performs decently, we should win by at least 10. If he has a breakout game like Sheff did against K-state, we should throttle Kansas.

As long as he's not a turnover machine

How bad can it really be? It will ne a nice glimpse into the future and this will help Doege should, in my world, SS start next year and Doege be a 2 year starter after. And if Karam or Young are good enough to beat him out in 2011, better even yet. How I long so see OU and UT have QB issues next year.

agree but landry is going....

to be another great one at OU from all indications. Garrett Gilbert at UT will be another Colt. It only gets better in the Big 12.

I posted a fan post yesterday

Colt McCoy and Jordan Shipley’s little brothers are planning on going to UT, and are both apparently very good.

The QB slot is not as bad or good as we all think. Defense is still not where it needs to be and that is why Tech cannot take that next step up the ladder. I think we bloggers tend to expect too much from the QB. There are definitely QB types that fit best in the scheme of things under Leach and when the defense is not playing their best, the faults of the QBs show up more easily, as was the case when the competition this year became better. But, if the D is running smoothly, any QB can win at Tech. We are getting commitments from higher rated players, meaning more things can be done with them on the field. As high as my anticipation was for this year, it has taken a big wallop, primarily due to several key injuries across the board. With the better players coming in next year, injuries will not have quite the negative effect any more. An uptick in the offensive makeup will also help, a lot. What we fans must try to do is become more resilliant and continue to cheer on the Red Raiders game after game. As long as Tech is improving, it should be less important concerning the chemistry at other schools. We can only hope our added depth and talent will translate into more wins as the years pass. If so, then Texas Tech will take their seat on the elite board of football giants.

We as a fan base are absurdly spoiled when it comes to QB play. What other school can boast such a consistent and long-term run of gun slingers? The bar was set high…and we rightly have every expectation that it should stay there.

agree

if the defense could stop the run and force a few turnovers we might be a legit contender. Too many people state the tech has no defense and I for one argued that we did since ‘08 season. This year we fall back in the slump with injuries and smaller and slower play makers. I’m real surprised at the inconsistency. I feel like if Leach focused more on defense we would be unstoppable. I’m not throwing Ruffin under the bus yet but he needs to step it up. Injuries definitely hurt us this year but good defenses can work around that as Tech did with UT and NU.

Just to get this straight....

do we boo Doege after Britton drops the first pass to hit his hands or after the first time he gets hit sqare in the back and fumbles, or what? I’m so confused.

by blackbeard on Oct 29, 2009 2:44 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

Eh....

at this point I dont care to boo anymore. We lost to a and freakin m, no sense in taking off karam’s redshirt at this point. Let Doege and Potts do whatever they can this week.

Sounds like you've lost hope

While it’s easy to argue that one should never “boo” their respective teams, I feel it’s negative reinforcement. We pay good money and invest heavily in emotional capital for our teams, and it’s a way of letting them know we’re dissatisfied with their effort. Hell even Nebraska booed their team after their 4th consecutive 3-and-out and they’re the nicest most supportive fans on Earth. If our athletes are coddled so much that they can’t even deal with a simple “boo” from the cheap seats then good luck in life gentlemen!

correct...

people are being way too sensitive about Potts. Hell the kid had numerous chances to execute and didn’t. A little booing won’t mame him. You can still be tech fan and supporter and talk negative about your team. If they aren’t performing well why not discuss it openly and honestly without sugar coating it. Tech is my team but I’m must admit they are not a good team this season thus far.
