  Return of Cunigan:  Last night, I went to my high school's homecoming game (it's Kaufman, and my wife is a teacher there now) and the Lions played the Wills Point Tigers.  Some of you may remember Chris Cunigan, a receiver from Wills Point, and it just so happened that I assume Chris's brother is now playing, Steven Cunigan.  Wills Point ran the spread and Steven played at inside receiver, which I thought was odd considering he is every bit of 6-2/185.  Steven finished the night with 5 receptions for 45 yards and my alma mater lost the game, 28-39.  It doesn't appear that the Red Raiders are recruiting Steven, and playing that inside receiver spot he really couldn't show off his speed as he was getting knocked around pretty good.

  Winn in the Right Place:  LAJ's Don Williams features RT Marlon Winn, who recounts Winn's decision between Texas Tech and Oklahoma St. on signing day and Winning of course chosing Texas Tech:

"Yeah, those were rough days – a rough couple of days – trying to decide where my future was," Winn said recently. "I ended up coming to Tech, and it ended up being the best decision I’ve ever made. It seemed hard at the time, but once I got here and got around the type of people they recruit here … everybody’s a hard worker. It’s one of the best decisions I’ve ever made."

Williams also talks with Winn's mom, who is on the transplant list for kidneys and pancreas.  Good stuff, go read the whole thing.

  Putting the Past Week Behind Us:  LAJ's Don Williams writes that the Red Raiders and the Lobos are looking forward to playing football.  CB Jamar Wall is glad Twitter is no longer allowed:

"It’s a few guys that use it," senior cornerback Jamar Wall said. "Twitter’s dumb. I’m actually glad that he’s making us get rid of it."

And New Mexico RB James Wright is looking forward to just playing the game:

"You try to win every game," UNM running back James Wright said, "then just keep practicing and getting better. We know we have chances to win every game on our schedule, but we dug ourselves a hole with those first three games."

  New Mexico vs. Texas Tech Links:  the LAJ's weekly Tale of the Tape . . . LAJ's Courtney Linehan writes about Lobo coach Emery Moorehead and his son, Aaron Moorehead, filling in as receivers coach since the other receivers coach is on administrative leave, for getting punched . . .

  2010 QB Young:  Denton Ryan's QB Scotty Young faced cross-town rival, Denton, and Young had an off night as he completed 9 of 14 passes for 171 yards and 5 touchdowns, all in the first half and led his Raiders to a 52-0 win.  Let's hope that Young can rebound next week.
