Make your prediction for the game. What will happen, who will lead the offense and the defense and predict the final score.
Synopsis of the Game: I'm not sure what happens here. I was very confident going into last week and was quite sure that the team I was watching was a very good offensive team, a good defensive team, and a team that turned the corner. If Texas Tech wins this game, and I think the Red Raiders will win, it's going to be on the shoulders of the defense. The defense needs to accept some responsibility, including Ruffin McNeill for what happened last week and we need to see a repeat of the Nebraska game. QB Seth Doege does enough to keep the Jayhawks at arms-length and the defense limits the Jayhawks ability to score. Someone is going to have to step up big and get to Kansas deep and I'm putting my money on WR Tramain Swindall.
Offensive MVP: WR Tramain Swindall
Defensive MVP: DC Ruffin McNeill
Final Score: Kansas 21, Texas Tech 24

Tech rebounds
I think the offense will respond as well as the defense. All the players have to learn to not depend on the QB for enthusiasm, maybe leadership, but not enthusiasm. Offensive MVP Jeffers
Defensive MVP McNeill

Exposed by A$M
I hate to be so negative. The Aggies and Nebraska exposed our defensive weakness in th middle to the run and pass. Our defense is only effective if the other team abandons the running game as Nebraska did and A&M did not.
I expect that Kansas to drive blocks all day long. Kansas will play keep await and Tech panics on offense and it another ugly loss for the Red Raiders. I expect that we will have QB execution problems also. Kanas 41 Tech 21 OOCH.

Ruff times
Doege will do well enough to get us by if the defense were to step up. Torres will be his number 1 target since he earned it last weekend by being the only receiver not to dip his hands in a tub of butter before the game. The defense, however, I don’t see stepping up. I believe it is apparent Will Ford is too vital as well as Dewhurst to the success of the defense. With them out, we have a similar showing to last week. The defense will improve week to week, but that isn’t necessarily saying much and they end up costing us another home L.
Kansas 42 TTU 35
OMVP: Doege gets half for starting his first game as a RS freshman and not collapsing… Torres gets the other half for the reason stated above.
DMVP: Wall who shuts down his side of the field as much as possible given Ruff’s play call.

I think this is a lot lower scoring than people would assume based on defenses. Always seems to work that way.
Tech will come out with some fire, but I think a mistake by one of our young guys will kill some momentum and allow KU to take control. Tech will play well in this game. But I think a few critical mistakes by Doege, Jeffers, etc. will keep us from hanging a W on the Jayhawks. Our youth will really show in this game.

The negativity here is stunning...
Admittedly, you guys have shown some flaws, but you’re also playing a team at home that recently lost to Colorado.
Obviously I’m hoping your worry comes to fruition and I know Kansas has the ability to exploit some of your weaknesses, but i’m still not sure if we can stop you guys.
by hiphopopotamus on Oct 30, 2009 8:16 AM CDT reply actions 0 recs
I am admittedly not confident. For Tech, it just depends on which team shows up. Watch any game film, and it is easy to see our weaknesses on defense. On offense we are starting a new QB, continue to shift around our O-line personnel, and have not shown much consistnecy among our receivers. The ability is there, but it is an overall young group on offense and they are streaky.
I don’t think focus will be a problem this week, so long as the locker room atmosphere is copesetic. That said, I see a bit of a shoot-out. Last team with the ball wins.
by NM99 on Oct 30, 2009 8:45 AM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
I just think playing our third string QB will have an impact. He’s third string for a reason. That, and our O-line is terrible. Defense is bipolar, and special teams are middling. We are not a great team right now. Good, not great…just the way it goes sometimes. Kansas isn’t exactly a world beater, and while they got beat by CU, we got destroyed by aTm at home.
I don’t think anyone is being “negative,” per se. Just managing expectations based on some unusual factors that most teams don’t have to deal with. Primarily, the third starting QB in as many games.
by Tech92 on Oct 30, 2009 9:46 AM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
I agree that their is cause for concern in general for Doege starting. But for a normal coach, I’m not sure he is third string. Leach values experience and time in the system more than any other attribute period(given the QB is at least competent), he has shown that time and time again. I know experience in a system and being able to run it well are directly related… that is obvious. But before his injuries Doege was projected as a solid 4* recruit. He has talent. One thing Leach prides himself on is the low number of plays in his offense and simply executing them perfectly. Doege won’t be perfect yet… but I’m doing my best to not be overly concerned about him starting.

by jdeeTTU on Oct 30, 2009 10:03 AM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
Agree with jdee
Doege is third string because of age, not talent. Leach has always favored his older players, a la starting senior QBs year after year. Still a concern for lack of experience, but I don’t think he lacks the talent to run this offense.
by RAIDERdweb on Oct 30, 2009 10:13 AM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
I wasn’t implying he doesn’t have talent…most young backups are there for a reason, meaning they ARE young and not ready for the big time quite yet. Or they’d be starters. It’s not a knock, it’s the fact of the matter.

i disagree with this comment.
Based on performance Doege is 2nd string and Potts is probably behind Karam. And of course Sticks #1

Wouldn't be surprised...
if we will be witnessing the start of the Doege era at TTU. I think he has more upside than Sticks and as much pure QB talent as any they have. Here’s to the start of his 4 year run as starting QB.

some of uf us are used to it.There seems to be a click here and a click there. If you are MAD about your team you seem to be put into a category of overzealous idiots that are always told to calm down.
Loosing three games does not make for a bad season. We just expected more. But you are right the negativity here is almost unbearable.Hopefully this will rebound with wins.
Good luck Kansas, and welcome once more to Lubbock…

Are you people kidding me!!!
I have been hosting a one man “rally” tailgate at my desk since yesterday afternoon! Are you not hearing my call to arms? It’s now been almost 24 hours since I have been home, I used my dark slacks to weave a Jolly Roger Flag that is now flying outside the office, I turned my desk into a pirate ship with make shift sails fashioned from TPS reports, I am forcing my secretary ( who refuse to return to work today) to call my first mate or face a plank walk in the conference room, I have barricaded the front door of the office to prevent mutiny, I proceeded to melt down all of my plaques and production awards into “pieces of eight” with a rudementary Double T on them! I smell awfull, and the go-tee I made with masacra stolen from my secretary is starting to really itch. This is my second full daying wearing the black eye patch, and I received numerous paper cuts from the mutual fund prospectuses I waded up into a pretty impressive sword!!!
Hear my call, WE ARE THE RED RAIDERS, we injure opposing players with tortillas and frozen batteries!!! We harpoon A&M fans with goal posts, we win field goal kickers in carnival games, our coach is a captain!!! Do you remember when in the first Pirates of the Carribean, that coin fell in the water a sent a continent wide message to pirates everywhere? We gents I’m here, pantless, stinky, and rather worked up, and I am standing on top of the office toilet! I have my rudementary “piece of eight” Double-T coin in my hand, and I am throwing it in!!! WRECK’em TECH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Our D shows up in the 2nd Half of the 2nd Quarter after a “Come to Ruffing Meeting” and we turn it around from then. (we just came seem to get going off the start(prove me wrong D))
3rd String at Tech is not like any other school. Leach is a QB Coach like no other. After a year of Tech and several Games under his belt he will be fine. He WILL make some mistakes and the Defense will have to set up but we win.

Great post ttumar.
I’m wondering if anyone can complete this equation:
Tech fans + Halloween + alcohol – momentum lost from last week=?
I’m curious to see how our fans look and act based upon the circumstance.
There was a guy in a spiderman costume at the KSU game, I would have worn mine as well but it was at the dry cleaners.
My prediction:
Tech 45
KU 31
OMVP: Doege
DMVP: Duncan

=A fan base deserving of the criticisms of last week?
And of course it means that the Jones will be utter and complete Hell for anyone from north of Amarillo. I’m watching the second half of the aTm game right now, Doege is very impressive.
offense-Doege pulls a SS and throws 7 TD’s in his first start, Each RB runs at least one TD. And a special teams TD from Stephens or Zouzalic one.
defense-comes in pissed off like none other. Shuts down about everything. Cody Davis literally knocks Briscoe’s head off (with his shoulder of course because we dont cheat like some one *cough*UT*cough*) and Brandon Sharpe breaks Reesing in two in the 1st quarter.
overall synopsis-Tech grounds the Jayhawks.

King of wishful thinking
I think you’ve taken the crown. I have high hopes for Doege, but I’m thinking yours may be astronomical. I’m just hoping for a clean, solid game from him to get things started, but I certainly wouldn’t complain if you were right!
by RAIDERdweb on Oct 30, 2009 12:06 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
I think he has a better arm than Sticks
4+ TD’s is entirely possible with someone’s grandpa in this system (just throw it 5 yards to a back and let them go if you gotta), and since he will most likely play the entire game, 7 is too. This is assuming he doesnt get nervous and pull a TP on us, but his playing time last week should have him prepared to start. He was on the money that entire half, and read the field pretty well. Look at me trying desperately to convince myself…. Thanks for the crown though, think it would go well with an eye patch tomorrow?
by RdrPwr on Oct 30, 2009 12:17 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
7 TDs
How awesome would that be to have 3 different QBs throw for 7 TDs in a game in one season?!?!? Talk about proving all the talk about us being a system right, haha. It would be a pretty sweet stat though.

It would end
any concerns whatsoever about the QB position for a few years.
by RdrPwr on Oct 30, 2009 1:21 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
perfect outfit
I’ll gladly give you 4+ TDs as reasonable, but to score 77… if I do my math right… 11 TDs… That means not only does Doege throw for his 7, you have 4 TDs split between defense/special teams/ and the running game. I would think the running game numbers would chip into the throwing TD production. And expecting 2-3 TDs from defense/special teams seems a bit much. Thus, the crown is yours. Lets hope wishful thinking turns to reality.

Against K-St
werent there 7 throwing TD’s by Sticks, 1 by Doege and then 1 ran in? Ok, I guess 77 could be a bit of a stretch. But lets see… 4 throwing, 3 rushing, 1 kick return…. 56-21 Tech. That better?

Bounceback
I gotta believe Tech bounces back and plays a solid game. The question I have is if we will be able to limit mistakes by a young QB and keep the game in hand. We are always tough to beat at the Jones so I have to give it to us. Still not a believer in KU also as they haven’t beaten anyone of note. Come on Tech, this is a turning point! Build the momentum for Sheffield to take the Oklahomas!!

OMVP – Doege plays with few mistakes for his first start, adequately using the run

I really hope you are right. I think Doege will check to the run, which is a big bonus of course since the QB whom shall not be named all but refused to do so. If our D shows up and Ruff gives them a chance with his play calling I could see you being right… here’s to hoping you are.
Also, I feel the strange need to poor a little out for TP on Saturday…

Not fair weather here
IMO, there is a difference between objective and being a fair weather fan. Based on what I saw last week (a fluke hopefully) I have no reason to expect a win this week. Does that mean I don’t cheer for my team? Hell no! I’m behind them 100%… but if you ask me for a realistic prediction on how I expect the game to go, well you’ll get what you see posted by me above.
I’m not a fair weather fan, I just like to think of myself as not delusional.

Get off the Bus and prepare to repel boarders
All fair weather fans must walk the plank ! Mutineers will be dealt with in a severe fashion. Cato nine tails, wippped around the mizzen mast! Defense returns and skull drags the KU offense. Offense moves the ball on them, takes what is given and scores enough to put them away. Raiders Special teams get the elusive TD on a return by E. Stephens.
Co offensive mvps are Leong with 3 x td passes Batch with 3 more as well
defensive mvp is J. Wall with 4 x pass break ups and a pick.

Tech wins this one..
simply because too much rides on this football game right now. This is another one of those games where Tech will come out playing like we know what were doing early. Ruffin is in the dog house and needs to make people believe he knows something about strategy and defense. Not sure he does but I say it works this weekend. It scares me having a 3rd string QB but if the O line can hold people off long enough most of on this site could fill in. Run the freaking ball and stay the course if it works. My last reason for a Tech win is simple – It’s Kansas and like A&M we have had huge success against these guys. Just don’t pull another one like last weekend. I think our coaches will actually motivate our players to win this weekend before the bye week. Tech 42 KU 27

Ah, the trials and tribulations that have beset pirate Raiders this season of plunder are epic. After being plowed and harrowed by the farmers our Capt’n, noted but ignored the jeers and cat calls of the poulellia (sp) heaped on the ill fated privateer Taylor, faced the chore of rejuvenating his band of miscreants. The Capt’n cajoled away complacency with the scourging of sirens whose best attribute is shade in the summer and warmth in the winter then called 1st mates and bosuns to the wheelhouse to locate and plug leaks, divine a new course ere the jolly roger of the high plains fall to the fate of the Black Pearl.
The Raider field general conundrum worsened as the third new general will be sent into the fray, Doege of the wobbly knees, what if…what if…. intones the automaton…. the wobbly knees are struck down shall it be the diminutive Mule Garret or strike the red cloth from the ivory tickler Karam or risk further damage to the privateer Taylor…..
On this the Samhain where the veil separating the otherworld of the long dead is thinnest, the faery and spirits of long ago heroes will influence the fate of the pirate field general in the quest to send the jhawks of le grosse Mangino to Davy Jones locker.

This is going to be a tough one for our Red Raiders to return to their former selves. They were forging new ground into the right direction when they somehow managed to overlook those skinheaded ags of Kyle Field vintage. If the team has made a committment to forget the past and to continue forward with new vigor and verve, they will surely score a lot and defeat those Hawks of Jay in the Jones.
