Doege's a red shirt freshman starting his first game since 2005
y’all need to back the hell off the guy.
had a few guys already anticipating yanking him for Potts

You have to admit, there wasnt much of a difference
although I concede he is as green as they come. And I support him, 100%. Would love to see him rally bigtime in the 2nd half…..but he will need an O Line to do it

Exactly. Not saying he can’t play, just wondering if this is the game for him
need to play the one that gives us the best chance to win

wasn't aware that we had a goal line package
by mojavereject on Oct 31, 2009 4:18 PM CDT up reply actions
meh
our lack of a goal line look wasn’t what cost us a touchdown in that situation.

I watch a lot of SEC football.....
many of those end up fieldgoals
by redraider2002 on Oct 31, 2009 4:21 PM CDT up reply actions
dude
KU lines up 3 to 4 wideouts even in goal line situations. Do you really want 5 D linemen out there for that?
by mojavereject on Oct 31, 2009 4:22 PM CDT up reply actions
you see it in the SEC too
2 linebackers, 5 down – stunts in the middle. Yes. all day long. the RB got too much penetration there. it would have been huge to hold to a field goal. This is why the Natl Champ this year will once again be an SEC team……Defense
by redraider2002 on Oct 31, 2009 4:25 PM CDT up reply actions
not be a Debbie Downer, just saying a little
defensive creativity would be welcome
by redraider2002 on Oct 31, 2009 4:26 PM CDT up reply actions
What you don't see in the SEC is what KU had lined up inside the 5
which was 3 WR’s, an H-Back, and the QB and RB. You are absolutely out of your mind if you think we should have brought 5 down lineman for that look.
by mojavereject on Oct 31, 2009 4:27 PM CDT up reply actions
so instead get no penetration...easy TD?
considering the ease of that touchdown….dont agree. and Florida does that inside the five often
by redraider2002 on Oct 31, 2009 4:29 PM CDT up reply actions
Penetration matters at the point of attack, everywhere else it's called over-pursuit
which has more to do with leverage than one extra guy on the end of the line. They got the push at the point of attack, they got the TD. We could have had 11 fat guys on the field and it wouldn’t have changed that.
by mojavereject on Oct 31, 2009 4:31 PM CDT up reply actions
Guess we will never know
but what we do know is that they ran up the middle and scored with ease. Empirical evidence proved that the 4-3 on the goal line was and will always be ineffective, noted on the scoreboard. Throw 5 on the line, get some push, have the backers fill the gaps and have the DBs take care of the lower probability pass. We will not know if that would have worked, because we need a real DC.
by redraider2002 on Oct 31, 2009 4:34 PM CDT up reply actions
Your mind's made up and that's cool
but fwiw if you line up 5 DL against that look and Reesing checks to the pass play and it’s an even easier TD. There’s a reason spread offenses score a lot of points, and it’s not because the only good defensive coaches work in the SEC
by mojavereject on Oct 31, 2009 4:38 PM CDT up reply actions
New flash
Not sure if everyone has heard, but rumor has it Shipley is mad at Colt, b/c he walked in on him and Bradford watching Brokeback Mountain….hope everyone enjoys
Leach
Needs to make the playcalling Doege friendly…..more screens and slants.

Off topic - Weird
Having gone to school in the early ‘90s, it’s weird seeing Florida State suck so bad.
mid 90s here
but love seeing any Florida team suck. Texas Football baby!

It's a good thing they suck, I agree
but it’s odd to me given my school memories.
by BTownTechster on Oct 31, 2009 4:31 PM CDT up reply actions
Our D is a joke
Our D can’t stop anyone or anything. Leach should have seen this a mile away, Ruff’s defensive schemes are not working at all. Anytime we play a quality offense Ruff seems to be out of ideas. We need a real DC
A bit harsh . .
on today’s defensive effort. They are playing pretty good ball today.
by BTownTechster on Oct 31, 2009 4:32 PM CDT up reply actions
If the Offense
had been playing as well as the Defense, we’d be blowing these guys out.
by BTownTechster on Oct 31, 2009 4:34 PM CDT up reply actions
I don’t disagree that we may need a new guy, but we’ve held KU to 111 yds and one gimme TD. And they are top 10 in offense and scoring nationally…
It's just me,
but I have no faith in the guy to lead this team. That being said, I’d happily eat crow at teh end of this thing.
by BTownTechster on Oct 31, 2009 4:38 PM CDT up reply actions
Time to eat it! LOL! I think Potts is a good QB!
I think he’s been getting a bad rap lately. He had a concussion people. The announcers even said he looked better today, not as slow as last week. Concussions cause you to have slower thinking. I think he’s on the road to better play! He did not lose that game to A&M! The whole team did and Leach even said as much. He said everyone wanted to win the game but noone wanted to play the game. IMO the whole team has had an attitude problem since the UH game.
Secondary must be killing it
for all these coverage sacks.
they absolutely are
Kerry Meier has been utterly shut down

yeah
the difference between DJ Johnson and La’Ron Moore vs Brent Nickerson and LA Reed is like night and day
by mojavereject on Oct 31, 2009 4:42 PM CDT up reply actions
weren't fooled by that
even if henley missed that tackle, Duncan was reading the QB draw the whole way
he got hurt and
our recruiting buried him

Defensive effort
The td after the turnover is really not their fault. They are playing a hell of a game. Line is (for the most part) getting pressure or at least containment. The secondary is doing a great job. So far, this is a fine bounce back from the lousy effort last week.
And . . .
here comes the bad luck, when torres drops one.
Don't readily
Go out of bounds
by oldschoolraider on Oct 31, 2009 4:48 PM CDT via mobile reply actions
that ball was overthrown,
but if you get two hands on it, you had better catch it
pretty funny. bring potts in, get a spark and he looks great… until he overthrows his WR two throws in a row for the pick.
Serioulsy . .
Win or lose this game, there really can’t be much criticism of the D. They are keeping us in this game.
One day at a time . .
is all anyone can do.
by BTownTechster on Oct 31, 2009 4:59 PM CDT up reply actions
Your D is playing outstanding..
In fact both Ds are, but I think you will get the W on the last drive…
our crowd
is WAY too quiet for a close game
D has to
Score, Offense cant

that soft coverage works a lot better
when it comes with the threat of being TKO’d ever time you run a curl
that's what I thought
He really doesn’t need to be covering their #2 WR

Potts is the problem
Potts is not our guy. We should have given Seth Doege a full game atleast. Potts comes in throws in an int and more to come. With Potts in there a loss is now guaranteed this was the final nail we needed for this season.
absolutely
we are too deep at RB not to use them….but can the o line create gaps?

This is the turning point
This is the turning point of the game. Here our defense has to get a stop and so far in close games Potts has not been able to seize the opportunity but today he must if we have to win this game.

I think there's a role for a guy like him
but not as a feature back. Definitely in pass protect and third downs, though. I’d snap him up

Love this . . .
4th quarter running game. Can’t help but remember that T. Henderson run at the end of the Kansas game several years ago.
quick show of hands…who prefers the throw on every play no matter what, to this balance of the second half with a nice defense?
Hey
I’m not married to the pass, but the run game wasn’t working either until Carter came in and started mowing down the right side of KU’s line

after watching the last few KU games
I think this was a while coming. Mangino’s been dealing with this newer, lamer version of Todd Reesing for about three games now and I think he’s lost patience.

this young secondary
is gonna be a FORCE next year
once we get Wade and Graves rolling on the line
they’ll be playing from a position of strength quite a bit, and they are showing great promise

Huge manlove for Baron Batch, but I also gotta give props to Potts this game for showing he hasn’t quit
Yo Mangino I'm really happy you brought KU football back and I'ma let you finish
But Batch is one of the most punishing runners of all time
Offense
much better in the 2nd half. Carter definitely helped. Potts had good tempo, only one mistake on the forced throw/tip/int
Eric Russell
Is an amazing Coord and I’m incredibly glad we got him
Y'all have a safe Halloween
gotta get the herd of kids ready to Trick Or Treat
yes i know...

Doege
He’ll be a solid QB, but he’s clearly not ready. My concern is with next year because as I’ve said before, I think next year is when we make a serious run at winning the Big XII and the BCS. So are we looking at Potts or Sticks to be at the helm next year? I love what Sticks brought to our offense, but I’m not sold on him yet as a legit starter. Hopefully we’ll get to see more of what he can bring in a starting role. Nice team effort in today’s win. Wreck ’em Tech!
Yes corn nation it is over.
Here is what I think, WHERE WAS THE BLITZING LAST WEEK RUFF????!?!?!?!?! Obviously its not Ruffs fault at the total lack of effort last week. But hey when stuff doesn’t work try something else. This week we were getting pressure with 4 and sometimes 3 but occassionally we would actually BLITZ! And that totally threw them off. And sometimes we would show blitz and then not, that was a big deal.
Meyer fumbled because of Wall’s hit on the previous play.
When the pass doesn’t work you RUN THE BALL! THink Ole miss, Houston, etc.
Potts came in and gave a lot of tempo. That was great. He throws off his back foot and missed a number of throws including the interception. When he had his arm hit there was a guy open for a probably TD as he had beat the safety.
Doege did a lot of good things but lacks the internal clock at this point. I loved him going deep to Ed Britton early. However Ed needs to catch the ball and run his route. That guy can be a difference maker if he catches it.
B Carter was AwesomE!!!!! Our line was horrible without him. He was hurt and put the team on his shoulders. Thats a man. And with no face paint!
Batch is a hero. He deserved this and his attitude is great.
I was screaming for Leach to kick the FG when we went for it to tie at 21. Of course it was the right decision after we converted right???……
