Tough Year

Spent last weekend in the Hub and waited a few days to reflect.  Much like Seth, I was displeased by what I witnessed during the New Mexico game but decided to not instantly jump off the bridge.  However, after discussing the situation with CITYMAN of Plano I do believe we, for many reasons, are back to the old days of being hot and cold Texas Tech.  Some days we will blister people.  Other days we will be completely overwhelmed.  Overall, we are fighting dismissals, youth and less than stellar talent.  I have no clue about the QB situation.  We have NO lead receiver.  I have never seen a more passive defensive line.  They should be on dancing with the stars.  I love the way Bront Bird plays all out.  However, I think our linebackers are a step slow.  And I think the scheme leaves all front seven vulnerable. Am very impressed with our defensive backs.  They can bring the wood.  Nice punting game as well. Also, being in attendance reminded me how much I hate television games.  God, the lack of momentum in the stadium is dreadful.  However, I was greatly impressed at the large crowd.  I remember the days when the likes of NM would have brought out a crowd of 35,000.  However the LONG delays due to tv prohibited any chance for crowd involvement.  I guess I am a glutton for punishment since I will be back in the stands for yet another television marathon this week against K-State.  Overall, the program is way up from the past.  Its just that this year because of all the above circumstances we will be forced to fight our butt off to keep our head above water. See you guys in the Hubbaplex this weekend.

Tech need a statement game...

and this could be it. I’m not sure we get it done with the way this squad has performed but we’ll have to see. I’m making the long journey from Plano so it better be worth it. So far I don’t see anything special coming from this team this year. Very scary and leaves me thinking about next season.

True

This is the same as our Kansas game last year. A watershed moment that COULD decide the direction of the rest of the season.

Wreck 'em, Tech!

+1

Yeah I thought we had rout going on with the first series on the long pass to T. Swindal. Then next 4 x Tech series not so much. Stumbling around letting NM stay in the game. Sure would be nice to have good old fashion thumping of the Wildcats. I.e. get up 4- 5 scores in the first half and force them to take long chances. Big Mo’ Might even carry over to the Nebraska game.

3 steps forward, 2 steps back

I think what is disappointing most Red Raider fans is that we were hoping last season was our introduction to the top tier of the Big 12 to stay. It’s very understandable to want to be at the top after 10 seasons of “almost” being great. I truly think we’re right on the verge, just not there to stay yet. Based on recruiting, experience, and the overall momentum of the program, our brightest days are a year or two away. I believe we are brimming with young talent, however experience tends to get the starting spot in most positions for us right now. Frankly, this year is a transition year….“out with the old, in with the new”. Next year we should be a more balance and CONSISTENT team…emphasis on the consistent hopefully. However, I think once we get in to quarterbacks like Doege, Karam, and Young along with much more athletic defensive players and highly touted skill players, watch out! Maybe all of these years of being good but not great will usher in an era of Texas Tech finally being on top and staying on top.

I think the D line is doing just fine. I also think out team is very talented compared to PY’s. I just think we have had a lot of young players at positions and a struggling QB for the past few weeks. For us thats enough to do us in. The receiver play hasn’t been that great but Detron has been hurt. He is a guy that is special and has dissappeared.

Hopefully it starts clicking on offense soon.

+1 on the D

I just hope our WR’s break ou the tennis ball machines and work extra on catching everything thrown their way. This week I hope will improve in that area but especially down the road cause drops sure don’t need to be apart of our game! Wreck’Em Tech

Don't be too hard on Britton

Being an old fart, I remember “Bullet Bob Hayes” playing for the cowboys. He was the world record holder in the 100 yard dash and could out run anyone on the football field. He would get behind the DB’s a couple time a game and “Dandy Don Morton” would heave the ball his way. It was a 50-50 chance that the pass would be completed. Hayes would be so deep Morton would under throw the ball or Hayes would simply not catch it when it hit him in his hands. But they ran the play consistantly and scored many touchdowns. I hope the Red Raiders continue to send Britten deep as he has the speed to get behind the DBs. He won’t catch them all, but 60+ deep pass play once in a while would be outstanding. Wreck’em Tech!

Dandy Don Morton....

Is that an intentional combination of “Dandy Don” Meredith and Craig Morton???
(both of whom had some passes dropped by “Bullet Bob” Hayes…)

Not Intentional

Just dusting of some memories and got it wrong.

Yes, I had to do some dusting of those memories as well....

That was back when I actually liked the Cowboys….
That was a long, long time ago….!

I kept waiting to be recognized for some random reason during one of the breaks. Also where do we get a Chess National Champion t shirt? I am all about that!

I second that. I would wear a Texas Tech Chess Champions shirt daily!

Did we pull that out? Apropos of nothing, but University of Dallas is supposed to have a really good chess team…

At the game Saturday they recognized some dude from Tech that is supposedly the National Champion. I am telling you as much crap as I took about saying to give up the individual game shirts, I can’t believe someone hasn’t jumped on this. I would wear one! Don’t we have a National Champion Meat Judging team and Cross COuntry runner? We need to get on this.

I must have those shirts.......
