What the fuck is a block in the back on the kicking team?
by kayakyakr on Nov 14, 2009 8:51 PM CST reply actions 0 recs
don't think I've heard of that before
sort of like roughing the center
by Tech92 on Nov 14, 2009 8:51 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs

does the big 12 have a number to call for questions?
thats so crazy i cant even be that mad, i just want to hear an explanation
by RdrPwr on Nov 14, 2009 8:56 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
Explanation form Rule Book
FYI – Have to go to 2 places in the rule book to find the answer. Rule 2-2-3 states: “A block in the back is contact against an opponent occurring when the force of the intial contact is from behind and above the waist. (Exception: Against the ball carrier)”. That comes from the definitions section of the rule book. Rule 10-3-3-c states: “A block in the back is illegal”. Note in the definition it does not metion offense or defense – simply contact against an opponent. Now, I am not saying it was a good or bad call as they did not show it on replay – and in the 23 years I have officiated I have never seen it called on the defensive side of the ball (which includes the kicking teams).

Game day emotions.
We kinda let it slide during the open game threads.

A few nuggets from the first half
Total yards
Tech 222
OSU 96
Penalties
Tech 8-64
OSU 5-25
by Tech92 on Nov 14, 2009 8:52 PM CST reply actions 0 recs
yeah we should be up by 14 if we didn’t get all those penalties
by ST04 on Nov 14, 2009 8:53 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
without a couple of key penalties
it would be 10-0

making my comments from the A&M game look BAD. Props to Ruff and the D

I wouldn’t blame him for that loss the players didn’t buy into A&M actually being ready to play

The bye week gave me time to think about Potts and I decided that I was behind him no matter what. Boy am I glad that I didn’t get those “In Lubbock… There’s a Potts at the end of every touchdown” bumper stickers printed.

Do you think TCU will threaten our recruiting?
by redraider2002 on Nov 14, 2009 8:56 PM CST reply actions 0 recs
they have always had good defense, but their offense looks strong now too

TCU just isn't sexy enough
They have a small stadium and it is usually empty. Tech dominates that field when we play there. They can cherry pick but can’t sustain.

This just in…Notre Dame has won the big 12 north according to Lou Holtz.
by Remington870 on Nov 14, 2009 9:01 PM CST via mobile reply actions 0 recs
TCU is a good team, but north Texas could care less. It took this ranking and ESPN gameday to sell out a game. They are usually 4,000-10,000 shy of a sellout in a pretty small stadium (40,000+). So, to me, they are irrelevant until their own town gets behind them : )

It took University of Houston exactly one big win against a good team to get all of Houston excited and talking about them. Granted their stadium is small, but people were clamoring for tickets to TTU here.
by merrik on Nov 14, 2009 9:03 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
I went to saw them play SMU and it wasn’t packed
by ST04 on Nov 14, 2009 9:04 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
Maybe it was just the TTU game?
They normally get minimal radio coverage here, but they actually got some time and buzz around town. Especially with the Texans being so mediocre. Didn’t they lose to UTEP? Was that before or after SMU? I meant there was buzz from about the OSU game until they got destroyed by UTEP.

It is a bit different defense playing. they’re not making the same tackles, the coverage isn’t as tight, and we’re not getting to the QB. I think osu has learned that they can hold all they want so it’s all hands to the outside.

Our offense has problems this year and struggles mightily at times. Tempo, consistency at QB and OL, etc.
This osu team wouldn’t be able to challenge last osu’s team, but our team is also not nearly as consistent as last years.

I dunno
I was excited about next year when THIS year started, but I haven’t seen much to make me excited. I think we’re capable of doing something, but LOTS of people need to step up. I guess the one good thing is that most of those people are on Offense. _
by HeeroTX on Nov 14, 2009 11:04 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
Darn
That was as ugly as a Raider offense as I have seen since Leach took over. Potts was terrible at first. Sheffield should never have been needed. Now he may be worthless for the rest of the season. We can still hope for the Alamo Bowl, but the Raider O really needs to get it done. What makes it even worse for me is that Tech SHOULD have had a minimum of a 24-7 lead at the half. They just squandered too many opportunities in the first half. OSU made some great adjustments and Tech did not. Period. I see a 1-1 finish and the Holiday or worse bowl, unless they can pull out a win next week against OU. That will give us a very mediocre 7-5 record, exactly what was forecast. The thing is,if Sheffield had been the starter from the beginning and never got hurt, we could have been looking at another one-loss year. So, except for poor QB play because the wrong guy was given the nod at first, plus all the injuries suffered, this should have been another steller year. Now, not so much. I sure hope we can finish strong and end with a 8-4 record, going to the Holiday bowl. I don’t see Tech getting into the top 25 unless they go to and win a bowl after closing with wins against Okie and the Bears. Then a final poll might have us in the mix. I am afraid though that we must now wait until next year for another good run. BOY! This is so reminiscent of the past. UGH!

8-4 will be like a sweet dream come true
8-4 will be like a dream come true at this point. With TP at QB there is a real possibility that it will be an L against OU and then an L with Baylor on the road. At 6-6 then are we bowl eligible (since one W is against a Div II opponent?)

I think that Bennie Wylie and Matt Moore need to have a come to Jesus meeting with the o-line.
Those guys need to get in the weight room. There is no reason why they all can’t produce like Reed and Vasquez did. Build up some muscle and get some quick feet and learn your damn position blocks. Batch seemed like he was doing everything for himself.
Learn to explode of the ball and drive your hips forward. Kill anybody that tries to get to your QB. End of story.

I agree, but...
The Oline was mostly new this year, pretty green and needed work. I think the early game in Austin did us no favors as we got injuries all over the offense. I also think Reed was probably a much better “leader” on the line than people realize, him or Vazquez. I dunno that Carter has been able to lead the Line.
