Sun Bowl or Insight Bowl?
I have been looking at several different bowl projections and it seems everyone is predicting Tech to be in the Sun bowl vs Oregon St or USC or the Insight Bowl vs Minnesota. I have been to both bowls. I went to the Insight when Tech made the AMAZING comeback vs Minnesota a couple years back and I also went to the Sun Bowl when UCLA played Wisconsin. No matter what bowl Tech makes I will be there but I would have to say I would rather go back to the Insight Bowl just for the atmosphere. Then again it would be fun to see Tech get revenge on USC from the 95 Cotton Bowl.
I know its still a little early and things could change after this weekend but what bowl game would you rather see Tech in?
WRECK EM TECH!!!

I’m not a fan of the El Paso scene, so I’d prefer the Insight Bowl. The Alamo is not out of the question…unfortunately, neither is the Independence or Texas.

It’ll be no bowl if we don’t beat OU or Baylor. scary thought, right?

Ya, if a&m beats Baylor and we lose to OU, then Tech and Baylor will be battling for a bowl game on a nuetral field. That too is scary;)

Baylor has to beat A&M, then we will play baylor for bowl eligibility.

Really?
The ESPN.com standings list us as already bowl elligible.
Whats the criterion for bowl elligibilty? Just 6 overall wins or also a .500 or better conf record?

It’s a process:
1) You must win more games against FBS opponents than you lose. If you’re 6-6, you’re eligible, but only if your conference has bowl slots available or all teams with a > .500 record are taken.
2) You can count 1 FCS opponent per year, but they must meet the criteria of having used 90% of their available scholarships for 2 years rolling
So, Texas Tech played UND earlier. you say, “Well, we can use them, right?” Apparently, because they just moved up to FCS, we cannot because they do not meet the scholarship requirement.

No reason why we can’t win out and go to the Holiday Bowl in San Diego.

What would we need for this? A Nebraska loss?

We need at least a win over Baylor and a Nebraska loss.

Holiday would be my first choice also. I would love to head out to San Diego and do some tailgating at Qualcomm Stadium. I guess we will be rooting for a K State victory this weekend.

Holiday Bowl vs. USC
I want that soooo bad!! Mainly because I’m off work for a stretch of days and I could go. It helps to have alumni in-laws with deep pockets!!
Wreck Em TECH!!

That’s the scenario I’m hoping for as well. Friend’s mom lives 10 minutes from the stadium!

Holiday would be great...
and you can bet lots would come out to San Diego for that one especially if we face USC. It all rides on this OU game so lets just concentrate on that being our bowl game for now.

I live in San Diego and would love that. We already have a fairly large group that gathers at a bar to watch games together so I’m sure we would get a nice tail gate party going on. Then just hoping for a result similar to that of the Cal Holiday Bowl

Sun Bowl
as much as people dont like the el paso scene in the sun bowl it is only a 5 hour drive from lubbock.
Tech will have tons of support, like a home game.

Raise your hand if you thought it could come down to the final game of the year vs. Baylor on if we’d be bowl eligible or not. Yeah, me neither.

No kidding...
I can’t even believe we’re having this conversation. Gasping for air at this point.

Season Summary
This has been a weird season when you consider everything that has happened.

It sucks that it has to be this way. Any bowl game would make me happy after this up and down year we had. : /

Sun Bowl against USC
Pom Squad, Margaritas, and a close drive. Not a bad consolation prize for a pretty disappointing season.
by the1austin on Nov 19, 2009 11:32 AM CST reply actions 0 recs
Yeah I would not be completely disappointed. Its only about a 3 hour drive for me. Insight isnt too bad either, 6 hours. Im still hoping for the Holiday Bowl! Wreck Em.
