Worst coaching move of the year

And the nominee for the dumbest, stupidest coaching move of the year must go, HAS to go to Les Miles at LSU. A Hail Mary pass puts them on the Ole Miss 6 yd line, with one sec left and no timeouts. Clock starts when sticks are marked. He runs the offense down there and has them...spike the ball? Excellent decision Les. No throw to the end zone, no field goal try...just...a game ending spike into the turf. Solid, Les, solid.

4th Down decision

was rivaled only by the decision immediately preceding it to not call a timeout with 28 seconds left and let the clock tick down to 9. Inexcusable.

That was a total mental meltdown

Not sure what if anything Les and the team were thinking, but it was wrong on multiple counts

Sso Ole Miss in the Cotton bowl again I surmise....

Hope the Pokes give them a beating like the one they’re about to receive at Norman this coming weekend.

I watched in disbelief

The QB got the play off and could have kicked it himslef, ran, or thrown the thing. I love to see the SEC lose, but this was a bit much.

Miles' Excuse

The best part about the whole deal with Miles was his excuse at the end of the game!! He should have at least “manned up” on the deal!

My wife went to LSU....

So they are our 2nd favorite team (distant 2nd).
That one was painful… And I’ve actually seen several others… Maybe not quite as bad or the outcome/ consequence wasn’t as bad…
It certainly gives me some perspective when people start howling about some decision Leach made in some game…. Hey, and Les has a National Championship victory under his belt!!!

Somebody on the BON board posted a link....

To wikipedia that showed Les Miles. Somebody re-wrote the entry after the game….

Damn funny!!!

No doubt about it.

What the hell was that? First, you gotta call time-out with 25 seconds left and regroup. Then you have time for FG team from 8 yrd line for the WIN!
If not, you at least snap the ball and run a play. Hell, send everyone in the end-zone and roll out the QB and just try to make a play.
Or at a minimum, try to run the FG team out on the field to see if you can get a kick off. Probably a 50/50 chance.

Anyone else see the game and think about just having a player call time out immediately after converting 4th and long and taking the delay of game penalty?

i believe the clock starts again on reset in that situation. In the NFL, that would end the game because they have a 10 second runoff (optional for the defense) within 2 minutes if there is a delay of game or unfair clock tactic penalty. I can’t find the runoff in the NCAA rulebook, so theoretically a delay of game type penalty (tossing the ball, calling a timeout when you have none, committing some other intentional foul like having an assistant punch a ref) would give you enough time to get your kicking team on the field while the officials make the call and count off the yards.

Punch a ref

I’m picturing Ruff taking a black and white out during a game. That would get the crowd going.

I’m thinking that a Tech QB would have run a play. Of course, we give our QBmore control than a lot of teams.
