Preview and Game Day Thread :: Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks vs. Texas Tech Red Raiders

Texas Tech Red Raiders at Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks, Nov 24, 2009 7:00 PM CST

INFORMATION: Detail
OPPONENT: Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks (1-1, 0-0)
LOCATION: Johnson Coliseum :: Nacogdoches, TX
DATE: November 24, 2009
TIME: 7:00 p.m. CST
TV: TTSN
RADIO: Affiliates
GAME CAST: Fox Sports

Game Day Stat:

SFA: The Lumberjacks are really struggling, ranked 301st in the nation in adjusted offense and 302nd in the nation in adjusted defense, and that's only after 2 games. SFA was blown out on the road against Minnesota, but played much better against Jackson St.

Texas Tech: After 5 games, the Red Raiders are holding opponents to 59.4 points per game. After 5 games last year, which included St. Francis, PA, Sam Houston St., East Central Oklahoma, Eastern Kentucky and Southeastern Louisiana, this team was holding opponents to 77.2 points a game. Big improvement.

Players Focus:

SFA: G Eddie Williams is leading his team in scoring and reboundings, as well as finding the time to grab 1.5 steals a game:

Texas Tech: G Nick Okorie busted out a bit, in more than one way. Against Lamar, ,Okorie scored 19 points on 5 of 11 from the field, including 7 of 9 from the free throw line and 2 for 3 from beyond the arc. Okorie also managed 4 assists and 4 steals for the night, all the while losing a molar. Yikes!

Needs Repair

SFA: Same thing as Lamar, thus far early in the season, the Lumberjacks are awful at turning the ball over, a rate of 27.5% for the year and 15.5 per game. It's somewhat relative to know that if a team is only averaging 52 points a game, turning the ball over more than 15 times a game is not good.

Texas Tech: You never like to see your team out-rebounded and you especially never like to see your team out-rebounded by Lamar by 6 boards. That's just not acceptable. To make matters worse, the Cardinals out-rebounded the Red Raiders by 5 on the offensive side of the ball. That must improve.

GO RAIDERS . . .

a win is a win

Darko looked good and there were a lot of free throws. I like a win on the road even if it is SFA.
I thought it was funny that their cheer squad was camera shy. They looked like a very uncomfortable bunch. Is their coach in the mafia?

Agree about Darko.

We made that one waaaaayyyy too close. Started off cold and throwing passes too late, ended playing terrible defense. Smart foul on the floor at the end to force the 1-1, though.

Whew!

That was a close one. Tech had a comfortable lead early in the second half before allowing the Lumberjacks back into the game. It appeared the team was struggling to get past that streak of 11 losses on the road and got tight down the stretch. The win should help to settle them down, though, so future road games may not be quite as difficult for them. I do like the athleticism of the team. Darko is really playing well. Singletary struggled tonight, but will hopefully return to form in the next game.A starting record of 5-0 is nice, but some tough games ahead will determine exactly where the team is as they gear up for the start of conference play in January. Congratulations to the team for shaking off that big gorilla from their backs.
