Well, that's some bullsh*t.

Colt McCoy was named Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week by the media after texas' blowout win over Kansas.

This is really a crock. Taylor Potts shredded Oklahoma's stout defense like few other have, rolling up 388 yards and 2 TDs passing in Tech's blowout win over Oklahoma. texas was expected to blowout Kansas, y'all were a 6.5 point underdog to Oklahoma. Your win was an upset, and a very impressive one at that, while texas' win was expected.

For comparison sake, when McCoy faced OU, he had 127 yards passing, 1 TD, and 1 INT. He led texas' offense to a gaudy 16 points on 269 yards of total offense. Potts led a Tech offense that scored 41 points while rolling up 549 yards of total offense. Clearly, Potts did a better job than McCoy against Oklahoma, and given the two opponents both players faced last weekend, Potts deserved to win Offensive POTW.

Many of you may not care about the player of the week awards, and that is fine; I just thought it was ridiculous that the media is awarding McCoy because he earned a career mark last weekend (most career wins for a QB), and ignored Potts' performance. I think the media has already done enough for McCoy in keeping him in the Heisman conversation even though he doesn't belong there.

This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of Double-T Nation's writers or editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of Double-T Nation's writers or editors.

Beergut and I don’t always see eye to eye, but I am right there with you on this one. Pony-boy is the same caliber as little Chrissy Sims (did you see that panty waste over the weekend?) Wreck ’em NICK.

hilarious. and it really is very impressive to see a QB (mccoy) standing still throwing the ball!!!!!!!!, to a receiver (shipley) who is moving. Seeing the standing qb complete a pass to a running wr is probably the most orignial and amazing thing i have ever seen.

I was proud of Taylor 'Nick' Potts this past Saturday...

‘Nick’ played an excellent game.
I always revered Leach’es decision to keep his chosen quarterbacks in the game, no matter how bad they perform.
Does anyone remember a Tech QB throwing 5 interceptions at a game in the past?
We have had one. And Leach pulled the QB for only 5 plays of that game.

On another note. A Kansas player hit Colt McCoy in the upper chest, and rose his helmet up into Colt’s while Colt was still holding the ball in the backfield. Flag. Unsportman-like Hit. (to protect a vulnerable qb). The announcers agreed with the Flag.

Now why wasn’t a Flag thrown when Potts was hit in the ear-hole? The announcers agreed that there was no need for a flag. What a bunch of Cow Loving Media. Tech could have beat UT, at Austin. And Taylor would have his confidence as well as the fans confidence.

Roughing the Passer call

I saw the same thing. What a freaking joke. McCoy basically got pushed down just after releasing the ball. Flag came out just prior to McCoy throwing his hand up like it should be penalized. Frankly, it was embarrassing that they threw the flag and it was embarrassing that Colt would have even thought it should be a penalty. And the replay made it look like an even worse call than I initially thought. Kansas player was basically flagged for pushing Colt down. NO contact to the head or even above the shoulder pads, at all!
Clearly a double standard when it comes to those guys.

Someday.....

we will have a QB – WR tandem that is that good. Wait a damn minute……. Didn’t we do that already?

I guess if Crabtree and Harrell had gone fishing together we would have a serious arguement here but we don’t. OHHHHH, that’s right, they where running route’s every spare minute they had.

Granted if I had to see coverage on a QB I would rather it be McCoy than Tebow.

By the way, Shipley and McCoy are roommates. Did y’all know that? F******* crazy!!

Those guys are roomates?? And fishing buddies!! Somebody needs to call espn and tell them so they can do a story about this. This is earth shattering!! You think they make mix tapes for each other also? I love a heartwarming story about BFF’s.

This is the big12’s late season push to try to get McCoy that media hype for the heisman. He’s had some sub-par performances this year, so they have to blow up a good game, even if it’s at the expense of someone else. Hell, I would’ve even argued that Batch had a more player of the week performance with over 30 touches for over 200 yards and 2 td’s.

Beergut is right, but like the others said, Nick doesn’t wear burnt orange, so he had no chance. The only way Tech guys win this is if they throw for 879 yds and 11 TDs.

by Tech92 on Nov 24, 2009 10:15 AM CST reply actions   0 recs

Yeah but...

Jesus…oops I mean Colt threw for over 200 yards against us while he had the flu. That’s nothing less than superhuman. I didn’t even know it was possible to throw for over 200 yds in a single game. Plus he wore a SARS mask at practice the whole week to keep teammates from getting sick…what I great guy. The Heisman has turned into the whoever ESPN has the biggest man-crush on award. It’s a joke.

by Wreck Em on Nov 24, 2009 10:35 AM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Hey, don’t undercut that performance! He ate Peanut Butter Sandwiches for Christ sake! And pedialyte! Peanut Butter = Heisman. duh. All the greats have eaten PBJ’s. In fact, I heard that this guy Jordan Shipley actually made the PBJ’s for his friend Colt, who have been friends since they were 2 years old.

And fishing buddies, if you can believe that.

Beergut, you should be a minister

You sure do know how to preach to the choir.

Seriously though- they deal this award out every week based on the stats. Plus, you can’t really blame sheepish media for patting the conference leader on the back- it’s just what they do; if TT was 11-0, they would’ve been all up on Potts. The real media knob-slobbery is reserved for Swamp Jesus. Look at ESPN- their feature on Colt this week is a selective stats comparison equating him to JJ.

In the end, I’m glad that OU getting thumped gives all of us Texans something to enjoy together. Since that moment is now over, Beergut, see you on Thursday- I’ll be hanging out in one of those seats your rabid fanbase couldn’t fill. Hope that saving all of your quality football for the season finale doesn’t pay off for you guys this year.

Oh, and someone said their dad’s played college ball together in Abilene, but that’s too much to believe.

No way they went to college together or it would surely have been reported by now. I mean, what are the chances of that slipping through the media.

I hear they’re going to have a documentary about this. McCoy to Shipley: Generations and Youths. It’s all about that whole boy meets boy, boy plays football with boy, boy and boy’s kids play football together and maybe are kinda gay and win the award for most talked about football trivia.

I still think Shipley is the best player at UT. He’s McCoy’s safety blanket.

Seriously, Nick played a great game, but he could’ve passed for 1000 yards in the OU game and it wouldn’t have mattered. The media and everyone else had this weekend booked already for some serious McCoy worshiping as he broke some record they decided to start keeping track of.

with his AMAZING guitar and singing skills too… the first time I heard him sing, I thought it was a joke, then they brought him back 2 months later to sing again, in a recording studio and I knew he was for real ; )

Ok I did some research on my lunchbreak

And see if you guys can follow my logic here. The two roomies have lost only one game in the last two years, which would happen to be in Lubbock. Since the only way Colt could ever have a bad performance or be defeated in any manner whatsoever would be because he has the flu, he’s playing injured, Mack Brown hurt his feelings before the game, etc.

So following this fact with my reasoning…We all know there are very few large bodies of water on the South Plains on which two fishin’ buddies/BFFs/roomies could get some good ole cork bobbin’ done. So if they didn’t get to go fishing before the game, or had to resort to fishing from the banks of a playa lake, obviously that’s the only reason Crabtree caught that pass and we beat them last year. It all makes sense to me now.

Player of the week honors for a Red Raider...

might be a long time coming. It will not matter if a Red Raider turns in a fantastic performance – it is all based on the fact that Graham Harrell HOGGED the honor all of last year! He was POTW four or five times, right? Not to mention Player of the Year!

THAT’s why Potts was ignored. Graham took all of Tech’s spots for the next 3 to 4 years!
I’m sure some tea-sippers complained. :)

by natsnagrom on Nov 24, 2009 9:41 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

Think that's a different award

Harrell won the AT&T player of the week award (fan vote) a number of times last year. This is the Big 12 offensive player of the week, voted on by the media that covers the Big 12 (same medial that votes for all-conference players).

Still waiting

I am still waiting for C. McCoy to have a signature game this year against a team that is not imploding on itself. I agree that he has not played his best against tougher competition in the Big 12.

I want McCoy to win the Heisman...

The past 6 winners have lost their bowl games. Imagine if the ’Horns win the national championship again. 05/06 was a LONG year.

I’d rather they just lose the Big12 championship and save us all the bother to begin with, altho, I’m not ENTIRELY sure I want to see TCU go either, but I’ll take em over the ’horns.
