Direction of the Big 3 Sports (COACHES&FACILITIES)
Curious what everyone thinks of the direction the BIG 3 sports (Football, Basketball, and Baseball) headed towards
Heres my take
Football: Leach has Tech firmly planted as the 3rd best team in the Big 12, even with our slip this year to the 4th position. Were currently 3rd in all time BIG12 wins, we have the 3rd best home field record next to Texas and OU, we've split with OU the last 6 years, were playing Texas tough, and we're developing a defense
- Recruiting - back to back best classes Tech has ever had
- Facilities - trailing only OU, Texas, and A&M but catching up quickly. By 2010 we will be close to evenu
- Coaching - the best offense in the country and quickly forming an aggressive and opportunistic defense
- Outlook - Tech vs OU determines Big 12 South with Tech heading to the BCS as either a 1 loss Big 12 team or as the Big 12 Champion
Basketball: I have no clue where we're headed
- Recruiting - solid class was just signed, hopefully a sign of things to come
- Facilities - one of the best arenas in the country
- Coaching - son of a legend but the jury is still out
- Outlook - I think we finish 6th in the Big 12 and barely crack the tournament....I hope
Baseball: Full speed ahead. Dan Spencer is the man and I think he's going to bring Tech back to the success we once had at baseball
- Recruiting - solid, especially with pitchers which is expected considering Spencer's pitching expertise
- Facilities - middle of the road at best but great plans on the horizon
-
Coaching - CWS experience (2 championships) and former Tech player makes for a great fit
-
Outlook - We qualify for regionals this year and our playing in a super regional by 2012
What do you think?

I think he is refering to next year......

Football: We are 3rd in the south this year. NU will be ahead in total record but we destroyed them head to head. In recruiting you could certainly say that if we were in the north we would be 3rd or even higher. Considering our big 12 north record was 3-0 this year playing the top teams from up there. Next year is anyones game but our outlook if Nick keeps his head on straight is good.
B Ball: When I was a student I loved going to basketball games and watching Knight. We were very good a few years there and I look forward to that happening again. We need that elusive big 12 championship in basketball and are clearly rebuilding right now. Hopefully this years D is a sign of things to come.
Baseball: I did attend a few games of baseball in college and the stadium upgrade is very exciting. I love our sports programs getting better.
Beg to differ.....
The TTech football facilities are great—football offices/classrooms/weight room/practice-outdoor & indoor. The Stadium will be first rate once the East side is finished—better than osu(copycats) and great home field advantage!!!!! BBall is one of the best venues around—United Spirit is great. Baseball is getting a face lift hopefully soon and then it will compete with others. So with all due respect allknowing we compete very well with the ones you mention. Do we have the best? no but once Baseball is done we will have very top notch facilities. Lastly, I live in SEC country and our facilities are very competative. Again not the best but would compare very favorabaly to anyone except Bama & Florida. We are on the right track and we will get there. Wreck’Em Tech
NOTICE I SAID
“we have solid facilities”
I said the same thing you are saying, but until you have seen all the other ‘big boy" facilities it just shows how much money they have. I’m insanely proud of our facilities but they aren’t near the hundreds of million dollar facilities they have.
I'm just sayin
agreed here for the most part. NU has the best football stadium in the nation IMHO. No one can compete with UT. They get what they want. OU has great facilities and sadly the aggies love pouring debt into their failing program.
That being said if you wanted to list who has moved up in the world the furthest I think Tech is doing a great job there. The football stadium last saturday (although attendance is poor and that is another issue, think ticket prices) looked awesome. You could tell what the east side expansion will bring and its a more in-closed big time feel. Our stadium has gone from an overgrown HS thing when I was a freshmen in 2001 to big time football in 2010. And the training facilities and new coaches offices in the east side are great. Not the four listed above but right there. Our football stadium kicks OSU’s out of the park. Ours has room to grow and theirs does not.
The spirit arena is competitive with anything anyone has.
Apparently golf will be the nicest in the nation from the video link.
baseball will be on par with about where our football stadium is from the link above.
i think we are doing great things and have a lot to be proud of.
We need a DTN'er to step up!
What we don’t have is a Boone Pickens or a Joe Jamal or Terry Klien or someone of caliber in terms of financial backing.
I’m as proud of what we do have as anyone. And I can tell you first-hand it is light years from the facilities in the ’80s.
So someone needs to step up and cut a check for $50-75 mil and we’ll upgrade everything. Anyone? Hello???

joking of course
I like what we have. Let the other teams have their players lounge and other aminities. Makes ’em soft! LOL

Tech is fairly young
being established in 1923 so just wait till some older alumni start leaving money to the school in their wills and donations etc… Tech will get there in time. All that being said I think architectually that our stadium will be one of the best in country once things are completed. We may not be the size of the other guys but we sure look good and things are changing to our advantage.
Ha. Mentioning size, Hance is trying to grow the university to 40,000 students by 2020. That would go a long way in donations. We can’t forget that many of these universities have 35,000 to 40,000 undergrads. More people gives you more of a chance to have rich people and more middle class to donate smaller chunks. Its a great initiative to give money to and would help the university tremendously. We did go over 30,000 for the first time this year. Which is awesome.
Nice plan
Now all we have to do is FIND some alums with that kind of cash (that their kids don’t want/need). Better yet, let’s all go out and get our hands on that kind of cash. International piracy would be a natural for us, but those blasted Africans have kind of soured the world on that.
My plan is to find some gorgeous and insanely rich babe and make her mine. (You can marry more money in 15 minutes than you can earn in a lifetime.) Of course, she’d have to have a daddy complex and poor eyesight, but I’m willing to take the hit for my dear alma mater. Then the waiting game is on.
facilities
I have a friend who was recruited by every major college in the big 12 and he said by far osu had the best facilities (gold showerheads and faucets in the bathroom for example) he said after that was UT (when he went there Mack Brown let him try on the National Championship Ring) he said after that was ATM then Tech. He said Oklahoma’s facilities sucked. Their weight room is outdated and small and the only thing that attracts people to the school is the winning tradition and NFL potential you will have there.
