Bowl Game
If we and texas win out, we will be headed for our first BCS bowl game. Texas will be headed to the national Championship and we will be runner up in the big12 (Fiesta Bowl). So, a season full of adversity could still be one or THE most successful season to date.
Keep are heads up and stop bitching!

We have 3 losses
Rules us out of BCS. Fiesta would have to take an at large team.

Clarification – we could in theory get in with only 9 wins (3 losses) but we would have to be ranked in the top 14 in the BCS rankings, which is unlikely with losses to A&M and U of H.

The fact that OU is marginally in the top 25, OSU is only in the mid-teens, and Baylor is unranked, it will be completely impossible for Tech to rise into the top 14 of the BCS even if we win out. We won’t have a ‘signature win’ that will vault us into the thick of things. Holiday Bowl, Cotton Bowl would be our best bets. Alamo Bowl is my guess.

But only 1 BAD loss
With the way teams above us are falling, Tech DOES have an outside shot of reaching the top 14. Tech’s loss to UT was a tough one on the road to the #2 team, so that won’t hurt as much as the other two. The two losses to A&M and UH are killers, but at least the loss to UH can be considered a good loss, since they are ranked high. Houston also avoided a bad loss at Tulsa by gutting it up and coming from behind to win with a field goal as time expired. Like I said….it CAN be done, but it won’t be easy.

I feel like this poster is high...
BCS at 9-3? There is no rule that says the Big XII number 2 goes to a BCS game, it just usually works out that there are 2 really good Big XII teams… not this year. If we win out we have an EXCELLENT shot at returning to the place of our former glory… the cotton bowl… any by former glory I mean… well you know

Nothing wrong with optimism, but.....
If we win out, I’ll be happy enough. If we play flat like we have in several games, 7-5 is not outside the realm of possibility. What bowl would that get us? Shreveport? Houston? Hmmmm..when’s the last time we played Notre Dame?

Like the enthusiasm but
bowl the we are projected for is the Holiday probably against Cal or the men of Troy. If we lose another then it’s probably Sun or Alamo

We were still receiving votes for the top 25 last week.
Depending upon how many teams in the top 25 lost, we might make it back in despite not playing this week.
I see OU (20) lost, ND (21) lost, and Cal (23) lost. Maybe we crack the chart at 24 or 25 today.
Then again, OU probably won’t drop out of the top 25 because of the deal Bob Stoops made with the devil.

AP and Coaches are out...
And we didn’t get one of those open spots. We just got to keep the same 30-40 votes we had last week.. Go figure.

You get forgotten when you don’t play. The open slots went to teams who won this past week. Tech defeats OK state and they will make the top 25

We are probably exactly where we should be in the polls – in the others receiving votes pile. If we beat OSU next week, then we have a case and will likely wind up around 20-21. OU not being in the top 25 could lessen that win, if we win. But OU does have name recognition, so that may be a subconcious factor with voters. Baylor won’t help, it can only hurt. So the furthest we can go would be maybe 16 or 17 by my estimation. Depends on who loses ahead of us (and who they might lose to), but I don’t know the upcoming schedule of most of those teams.

I think aside from the A&M game we’ve had a good year with a touch schedule. Playing UT away early and just coming up short, an emotional and unexpectedly close game at UH, again just coming up short. The really really bad loss against A&M is basically the thing sinking any positive analysis of the team.
I don’t think we have an outside chance of going to a BCS game after reading an article about Notre Dame’s BCS hopes on ESPN. Basically the selection guys from the BCS bowls could no longer stand up lest they be embarrassed whenever they thought about getting Notre Dame to play in their facility. We basically need to have a season like last year where it is impossible or against the rules to NOT pick us for us to get picked.

Dude.. I assure you..
..we’re not getting an invite from any BCS bowl this year. Believe me.
Even if we do somehow magically end up being ranked #14, there would be higher ranked at-large teams ahead of us.
Next year, for sure!

Not only would there be someone ranked higher, but probably someone with a bigger name that brings higher tv ratings and travels better. The BCS is all about who can bring the most money.

anytime notre dame has as many losses as Tech, there is no chance. plus, there are plenty of other more deserving teams well ahead that did not lose to aTm.

Right on, brother. This year we do not deserve greatness.

Yep.
They should start ranking teams according to TV ratings now. Who cares about wins and losses anyway.

Sadly, Red Raider, that’s what the bowls are for. Outside of a reward for a team, any team, the bowls primary mission is to make lots of scratch. They will claim to always look for the best matchup, but the reality is they want the two teams who bring the largest fan base. As a businessman, this is exactly the direction I would go, too. Making fans happy is not their objective – though they will pay that great lip service.
