Scotty Young to UT for baseball?
Is Scotty Young who is up for player of the year going to really play baseball? Scotty Young is looking to leave Tech in order to play baseball which is what he is second best at.

He dropped on the list because of his poor decision making. Needs to do a better job of looking off recievers and stretching the zone of the defense.
This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of Double-T Nation's writers or editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of Double-T Nation's writers or editors.

Cool…not really too concerned. We have a lot of young depth at QB and there will be some young stud who shows up on the radar in a year or two. We’ll be fine.

WHAT!
Whoa there, li’l bud. I saw NOTHING where Young said he would do that. He looked great in this week’s game, played Thursday, which they won 50-39 over Denton Guyer. Ryan (9-1, 6-1) plays Saginaw (4-5) on Thursday at Justin Northwest in the bi-district round of the playoffs. Check your facts before posting this stuff, please. That article was from October 12. Thank you.

Check how you read the statement
I never said he WAS going to UT just saying is he going to. Next time make sure you read it carefully.

So you are posting an unsubstantiated rumor
for what reason?
by jeffinhouston on Nov 7, 2009 11:21 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
Just curious
To see if anyone knows anything about it.

Since you seem to relatively new here
You should read what the site’s owner says about posting rumors and insinuation (hint – not tolerated here). You should go elsehwere if you want to play that game:

More of a question
I wrote it more as a question. Do you think he would really do that and what not? To see what people think. But if you really take this rumor stuff seriously on a blog I’ll leave if thats how you feel.

“Scotty Young is looking to leave Tech in order to play baseball which is what he is second best at.”
That’s not a question, nor is it, as you wrote above, a projection because projections are usually noted as such within the same context as the actual projection, not later in a comment while trying to defend one’s own work.

hmmm
on red raider sports, rumors are scotty young is goin to go to UT for baseball….if kinda sux for our football team if its true, a player of his caliber should be good for our program….But I wouldnt hate on him if UT did offer him to play baseball, UT’s baseball program is one of the best in the country so if i was in his shoes I would prob take a chance on that too not to hate on tech of nething. Techs baseball is crap compared to UT’s. But thats watever, his loss on goin to tech. We got Taylor Potts….FERP

This is a perfect example of
how not to write a FanPost. For instance, the question is a leading question and intended to drive hits. Not only that, the content and information is currently on the front page of RRS.com under a subscription, so perhaps your fishing for information. If your original question (there is an edit function) is actually that would a player possibly not commit to Texas Tech, then yes, there is that possibility. But unless you know him personally, then you have no specific answer.

IF he is good enough for UT....
then he is probably good enough to be drafted by a Major League team. That’s what I would worry more about than him going to a rival school.

I agree
I just didn’t realize this topic would turn into how to write and not write fan posts.

Having a good discussion is fine, but fishing for information on a subscription based service is not. I could make a smart ass comment, but I’ll try and let things go. Bottom line, I think this is a fishing expedition and the only way to get subscription based information is to pay for the subscription.

Don't run away
Seth does a great job policing, if you will, this site, since he is the owner. Most of us have made similar errors somewhere along the line, but have learned to be careful on our posts. So, stay around and continue to join in on our postings. I think we all have grown somewhat as bloggers after joining in on this site. We are all avid (well, most are—-except for the beerguts of the world) Texas Tech Red Raider sports fans and really enjoy all of the info found here. We also love to jostle a bit with each other with our spontaneous opinions, making the experience interesting and sometimes even hilarious. Welcome, and I hope you can become a good contributor, learning the ropes as we all are continually doing.

I find it odd that he would risk injury playing football if he was intending on playing baseball. At this point in his career playing football would not be at all advantageous to him.
Second I take offense to the statement that our baseball program is crap compared to ut. WHen we get the money to throw at our athletes that ut has it will become much easier. I would never send my son to play or a coach who:
a. is an alcoholic
b. thinks the law does not apply to him
c. refuses to shake hands with the winning team after losing the college world series and then claims he didn’t know.

+1
Our baseball team is NOT crap compared to ANY college baseball program.
I'm not worthy. Really.

uhhhh, we aren’t exactly Rice or Texas or Baylor when it comes to baseball. At least not this decade.

You don't think we're crap in baseball too?
Just kidding you. :-)
But seriously, there was a time not very long ago we were feared at Dan Law Field. I know it’s been a little while, but with Dan Spencer aboard there’s lot of hope for the future of the program.
I'm not worthy. Really.

I remember well the days of being top 10 in baseball…we have some of the best fans in the nation at Tech and so long as we at least come close to a good year, we will host regionals.
Full disclosure…I came to Tech to play baseball…didn’t work out the way I hoped, but that’s why I came here. Gary Ashby was the coach at the time, and back then, Tech REALLY sucked.

Don't sweat it Frostyttu...
everybody makes mistakes with premium content every now and then. Scotty’s a big part of Tech’s future and we can all be a little sensitive to the alligations of he not signing. Keep posting with us as we want the DTN to grow!

If he is good enough to make it as a pro baseball player, the $$$ is much better, their carreers are longer lived, and with fewer debilatating injuries. I bet if Bo Jackson would have had it to do all over again, he would have forgone college and played for the Yankees out of HS (they drafted him). 2 sports stars are rare. Even if he is "better at football, baseball in still the way to go long term, IMO.

In the 90’s Tech baseball was amazing. The USC game was the greatest baseball I have ever witnessed. We can easily get back to that. Larry Hays was amazing. Oh and by the way our fans wrote the book on how to be a baseball fan.
