Texas Tech - BCS Possibility?

Ok, I may need some help here, but looking at the Big 12 standings right now, it looks to me that if Texas Tech wins out (beating OSU, OU, and Baylor) they woudl finish outright 2nd in the Big 12!  Then the wild card, if Texas goes to the National Championship game, does this possibly open a door for the 2nd placed team in the Big 12 to go to a BCS game?

After the loss to A&M, I was pretty upset about the A&M loss like a lot of you probably were, but now we are looking at the possibility of a 9-3 season and if we finish 9-3, a worst case scenario a Cotton Bowl bid and best case scenario (depending how TX finishes, a BCS bowl?).

Heck, I could be wrong about all this, but that is why I am writing.  Looking for feedback to keep my optimism in line!  ;)

PS:  I am hoping for a Sheffield miracle next Saturday, we need him on the field!

WRECK 'EM TECH!!!!

3 Losses For the Most Part Eliminates a Team from BCS Consideration

Unless Tech were to finish ranked 14th or higher in the final BCS rankings – which is not likely under the circumstances.

Fiesta Bowl would get an at-large.

They like to go with Big 12 teams, but don’t have to. I doubt a 3-loss Big12 team would jump all the other at-large qualifiers.

Fiesta would definitely go with a undefeated tcu or boise st over a 3 loss tech team. Lets just focus on one game at a time and try to stop osu this weekend. This game is basically the battle for second place. Whoever wins is in the driver’s seat for the cotton bowl. But tech and osu both still have dangerous games against ou.

BCS is obligated to take TCU if it finishes in the top 12. Alabama or florida would get another slot. Tech is going to the Sun Bowl probably

why not cotton?

9-3 (6-2).. 2nd best record in the big 12..beaten nebraska h2h.

If Tech wins out, i’m pretty sure we get cotton with wins over osu, ou, and nebraska. But we can’t be assuming anything at the moment. we assumed we would beat aTm and look what happened. concentrate on one game at a time.

Well...

we as fans can certainly look ahead all we want. That’s what makes it fun being a fan…it’s the players and coaches who I really worry about ; )

We ain’t goin’ anywhere near the BCS. When we win out we will be picking cotton once again. Please move the gametine.

great point...

the noon kick off sucks and leave little time for tailgating. Make it a night game and we all go in feeling really good!

I think this is a problem Tech has which lead to the TAMU loss. Prior to the A&M game, I’m betting that media, fans, (fat little) girlfriends all had Tech pegged to be the 2nd best team in the Big 12. They bought into that notion and then lays the goose egg against the Aggies….

This is a team that just needs to focus on one game at a time. This team is no where close to playing on the grand stage against USC or whoever the Fiesta Bowl invites. I would rather see us go to a bowl game i.e. Cotton, Alamo where they will get the fan support and not feel the pressure rather than a game on the grand stage.

Next year this team could be special (see Seth’s write up on 2010 team) and maybe we can fit into that conversation of BCS.

BCS - No

Cotton – Possibly if we win out. Even winning out is no sure guarantee of any particular bowl as they are not so much about competition but dollars generated. I would love to see Tech in the Cotton bowl again to make this year a success but if I were to bet i would say here we come Alamo bowl.
