All in all, it looks like a wash. However, we all know the Tech receiving corps is better tha OSU’s, and, IF the defense makes itself known, it is better than that of the Pokes. Tech wins this game by playing as hard and long as they did against UT, NU, KS and KU, but they will lose if they play like hey did against UH & A&M.

Scratching my head as to who has the better O line play in this one

Raider offensive line vs. OSU D Line The 7th rotation (iteration) of the Tech O line in 2009 needs to not allow an inordinate number of sacks. By that I mean no more than 1 per half. Am I the only one who sees QB mobility as liability for the Red and Black?? OSU has better feet for their guy in my view (without Sheffield on the field). Also I see the Raider Running backs being tougher than the OSU Linebackers. That presupposes we get some blocks for them. IMO.

Agree with pilk we have better depth at skill positions than OSU. Just have to have a level of QB play which limits exposure to OSU blizters and D line stunts. A quick release perhaps?

OSU Offensive line versus the Raider D line this is too tight to call. But my take is the Raider defensive ends are going to have some opportunities. The strength of this OSU line is between the tackles. The collision point between Hunter, Whitlock and Jones becomes the focal point. If the Raider interior linemen create piles so the Linebackers can crush K.Toston a few times early then the Ruffin bunch has a great shot at closing down that half of the OSU attack. Then the Cowboys sweeps and WR screens becomes a contain effort by the Raider Def Ends. Its big eater vs big eater.

I will only believe it when I see the "certain person" on the practice field

With a Tech QB who moves away from pressure or like G. Harrelll who has spidey sense of oncoming d linemen we are twice the team.

what's up the sudden increase in rumors & leading headlines??

I am starting to wonder if I am reading a tech sports blog or a celebrity rumor mill like TMZ.

I heard Michael Crabtree was cloned when he was 3, and that clone, Cichael Mrabtree, will be committing to Texas Tech to play WR next year.

Also, Brandon Carter was wearing socks with sandals. For shame!

So is Sheffield practicing today or not??

Anyone have eyes on the young man?

The article I read said he was still in a boot and was even doubtful to play against OU.

Quarterback Steven Sheffield remains out with a broken left foot and isn’t likely to return before the Nov. 21 home finale against Oklahoma, if then.

As per Don Williams … not that he is the end all authority on the injury situation.

Go check on Redraidersports.com

The front page and forums say it all

by Thundarr on Nov 9, 2009 1:57 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

RedRaidersports

front page cites the teleconference today as evidence. It is VERY obvious that Leach is holding to his promise that he will lie about injuries if asked IMO. I know it is ‘straight from the coach’s mouth’, but this is the same coach that is beyond anti-injury disclosure. Go listen to the teleconference… the stuff about Sticks is at the end.

by jdeeTTU on Nov 9, 2009 2:27 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Not that I believe....

it means anything, but Sticks came into a local nightspot on Thursday WITHOUT a “boot” and in sneakers. Brandon Carter was there Friday, and let me tell you, he is absolutley enormous in person. More than likely the boot no boot deal is day to day given what i saw and other have said.

Oh, and btw

Even if you cant read the forums (which I can’t), it has a 5 star rating next to it.

Thats always a good thing.

That's pretty neat Thundarr

I would not expect he’ll play though. But yeah the OSU Def coordinator went from licking his chops to asking for Imodium.

I would disagree
The strength of this OSU line is between the tackles.

The strength of OSU’s offensive line is their tackles, specifically left tackle Russell Okung, who is the best OT in the Big 12, if not the nation. I get where you’re going with stopping their running game, but saying you need to create a pile ignores where OSU likes to run (off-tackle), and their style of play (they are a very, very good zone blocking team). It’s kind of hard ot create piles when you are double-teamed at the point of attack, which is what OSU does very well.

If you are counting on your DEs to stop WR screens, you will get mauled.

Potts better be ready

beacuse this is a big game for both schools. I would also say the same for Leach and Ruffin as we always struggle with these guys on the road. The bye week should have given Tech some extra time for game planning but who knows. If Potts wants people to believe in him this is opportunity to shine. I worry about this game and our chances of coming away with a win but I like us playing the underdog role. OSU’s defense has gotten a whole lot better since we last played them so I hope we are able to move the ball and eliminate turnovers. 2-3 interceptions will kill us in this match up so forcing the pass has to be addressed. I say keep Batch moving the ball early on the ground. probaly not going to happen but it makes me feel better to say it.

Not likely

You said:
“The bye week should have given Tech some extra time for game planning but who knows. "
That didn’t happen, as the coaches were all out on the recruiting trail and the players caught up on scholastics……Oh welllllll………I just hope they are ready.

Yeah…I read that too. Seven coaches out recruiting and all our players hitting the books hardcore.

I’m glad everyone got a break and all.. I know its a long season. I guess I was surprised at the level of break that it sounds like everyone took. Sounds like we didn’t spend any extra time doing game prep at all.

by merrik on Nov 9, 2009 3:11 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Well I guess

the recruiting is a good thing but I sure would feel more confident knowing we had an extra week to prepare for the guys. I guess we’ll find out Saturday night. Thanks for the heads up TTPilk.

WOW

Can we show a little faith? The best thing the staff has done this year is let them rest. Half the team is hurt in some way. These guys know what to do and how to win. Just play the best to your ability! Play hard every down.

by boutthattime15 on Nov 9, 2009 10:46 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

The best way to approach this game will be to have no expectation from Potts. It won’t be as easy to run the ball on Okie state either. Their pass defense is terrible but their rush defense is pretty good. We have to win this one with our defense.

Robinson/Reesing

If the Tech D Line can do to Robinson what they did to Reesing in the second half, then the Orange Aggies are in trouble! Never let up D Line – run that motor Howard like Dwight Freeny does. Get you some Sharpe…Demarcus Ware-styles.
We need Sticks, but let’s not buy into the rumors…please.

by rpowel2 on Nov 9, 2009 2:41 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

This is a tough one to call. Tech really struggles against offenses similar to ours (and I have no idea why since they practice against it year round). Depends on if SS is back and if Carter is totally healthy.

Either way, this one will be entertaining. Unless you’re like me and get bent every time the other guy gets a first down ; )

by Tech92 on Nov 9, 2009 3:07 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

Forget About It

I told you before the Kansas game that Reesing was a one trick pony and there was no problem. Now, IF we keep Robinson from running it will be a piece of cake. There you go. No hand wringing or worrying about it. Its that simple. See you Monday with the tale of the tape.

Hope this break doesn't hurt us

I have also read that the coaches took off on their trips (recruiting??? may be). I hope this doesn’t hurt us because I have not heard of any team waste their extra week this way. As a side note we did not look like the same team when we came back to play Oklahoma after the break. This has me worried now. If the coaches decided to take recruiting trips in the middle of the season I hope they at least were successful or else it will be a horrible waste of time and athletic money.

by jef on Nov 9, 2009 8:17 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

I think this year is different than last year. Last year Tech was on a role and had so much media attention, then got their rhythm broken with the bye week and let the success go to their head. This year they can seriously use the break with all the injuries and adversity. I’m not saying for sure that it will help them or hurt them, but last year was a completely different situation.

by pcrawttu on Nov 9, 2009 10:54 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Not trying to continue the rumor talk. . .

But I have a friend who was an athletic trainer last year for the football team and says people who keep thinking Sticks will return in the near future has no idea how long rehab takes for these guys, even if he is called the “wolverine.”

We can beat these guys if we come with our best game. Like our defense did last week. Wreck ’em Tech.

A Riddle.

There is something that I wish to politely say, with elegance and grace.

GET OFF OF MR POTTS’ BACK.

Thank you. I feel ever so much better.

I have a riddle. In five words, what is the offensive object of baseball?
In five words, what is the offensive object of football?
Are they the same five words?

Mr. Leach said that one of his quarterbacks would discover how easy it is to play quarterback. It is the purpose of this post to claim that Mr. Potts has.
The statistics at the top are for the season. The only season that interests me is the fourth quarter of the last game.

Mr. Leach said that the quarterback has 10 men to help him. That is unchallengable. I affirm that the most important of those 10 men wears the number “25” (or whomever is in that position).

What is the offensive objective for both baseball and football? “Hit em where they aint.”

I am not very knowledgeable about football but I know a quarterback’s reads are often remembered by the acrostic: SLET — safety, linebacker, end, tackle. When the linebackers are deep, the other team “aint” in a position to stop Mr. Batch, and Mr. Potts has already figured this out. (WHAT AN EASY GAME!) When the linebackers come up to stop number 25, they “aint” in position to stop the 15 foot routes. All Mr. Potts has to do is dink the ball over the linebackers head. (WHAT AN EASY GAME!) When the safety come up… you can fill in the details.

Mr. Potts has figured all of this out. The only quarter of football to judge is the last one. I refuse to predict this game or any game again based on my horrible predictions three weeks ago, but I think we win big. I mean really big.

Wreck um, Mr. Potts.

Wreck um, Mr. Batch.

Guns up.

Respectfully,

Lakum

PS This in no way is intended to diminish what Mr. Sheffield has done. I think that maybe for the first time, Mr. Leach needs to rotate quarterback when he has them both.

by lakum on Nov 9, 2009 9:40 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

Winnable but tough

This won’t be an easy game, OSU has a tremendous offensive line that has hardly given up any sacks this season. For Tech to get the win, they will likely need to have a solid running game to open up the pass for Taylor Potts. If we can’t get that ground game going, Potts will likely see pressure all night long. Stillwater has historically been a hard place for Tech to get a win, but it is certainly one that can be won if the Tech D plays like they did against NU, KU, and KSU.

by TTU4life on Nov 10, 2009 1:28 AM CST reply actions   0 recs

Not too worried about OSU

I have seen a few games of OSU and I just don’t think they can beat us, but we can beat ourselves if the play at QB is not solid. Yeah, their O line is solid but not great like our O Line was last year, but it didn’t help much against tu or Houston and the aggies kept it pretty close with them through the game. I think okiestate is currently where we were in 2005 solid but with a few more years to go before they become a top tier team. We certainly will do well in all positions except for the QB. QB position remains a conundrum because it will depend on how our QB plays in that game.

I Think Mike Leach Has Found Another Botton to Push

Who is the qb ?

He is attracting attention to the program with that being the ongoing unanswered question.

I think he enjoys playing a game with the press.
