Scrappy Underdog Mack Brown Finally Gets His Payday

Mack Brown signs $5 million a year contract extension, taking his commitment to UT out to 2016

A few thoughts:

1) UT just priced us out of Mike Leach's new contract, if and when he finally has a Big XII Championship/BCS game kind of year. Thanks, dicks.

2) Didn't UT just name Will Muschamp coach-in-waiting last year and make him the highest-paid coordinator in the NCAA? Good luck getting him to hang around for another 7 seasons.

3) Shouldn't they have waited for the Alabama Killdozer to lower Mack's price, instead of extending him right after he nearly lost to a Nebraska team that UT was supposed to beat by three scores?

4) If UT Athletics has so much money, why can't they afford a better offensive coordinator than Greg Davis?

Greg Davis is UT’s Dennis Franchione. The longer he is around, the better for Texas Tech.

No more

Coach in waiting BS. I bet Mack saw what happened to Bowden and said that’s not going to happen to me. Muschamp will stick around for one or maybe two more seasons and he’s gone. TU had to decide who they were going to choose and they chose Mack.

Doesn't matter what anybody makes in a given year

I remember people having coronaries because A&M offered Jackie Sherrill $400,000. You would have thought the world was coming to an end. No school makes more money off football that The University of Texas. They have pre-sold 83,000 season tickets for next year. We’ll never compete if money is the sole criteria. Fortunately scoring more points is the only criteria that matters & I still think we’re gaining on Texas and Oklahoma.

are you really the 603rd person to get mack browns handle?

Mark, not Mack

And 603 Clement Hall was my dorm room. There are billions of mbrowns on the internet so you need a number after it if you want an ID that’s not already in use.

This raises a bigger question......

Next year, after we beat the crap out of UT and win the ’ship, Leach will probably want another raise to be equal with Mack. Can Tech do that?

Oh yeah, alumni are alive and plenty on the South Plains......

Plus the revenue you would receive from the BCS Bowl. Not to mention how many “t-shirt fans” we could possibly end up with. There might be an epic battle at Wal-Mart for Collegiate Display between Tech and Texas…….

haha a few weeks ago, the number 2 definition was at number 3, so the examples made it even funnier.

Dude

Linking to things you think are important isn’t that hard. Taking the extra 10-15 seconds makes it better for everyone else.

It seems Bill Belichick is a Romer disciple as well.

My bad guys

It’s finals week, cut me a bit of slack. (minus the space) just didnt come to mind haha I was probably celebrating the end of the semester. Copy and paste this time fellas. I’ll try to pay more attention next time. If you like it, feel more than free to make a fanpost over it. Gave me a good laugh a few weeks ago.

Cincinatti is looking for a new head coach

Hard to imagine Muschamp not being on their list. Why would anybody hang around just to see if Brown retires in 7 years. I don’t think they could pay me enough just to listen to him.

Apparently, the faculty at UT-Austin doesn’t think much of the raise either:
unseemly and inappropriate

if you're more concerned with dollars and cents than X's and O's, $5 mil a year is a steal for Mack Brown

UT Football revenue has gone from $21.3 million in 1997 to $87.5 million in 2008. It’s hard to argue that $5 million is too much to pay to someone who’s presiding over such a profitable cash (ahem) cow. Besides, it’s not like that money was going to go to academics (maybe to “tutors” for their “student”-athletes) even if he didn’t get the raise.

Are tutors really needed when the athletes take nothing but remedial classes?

Did you really have to ask that question?
