New JUCO DT Commit; former Tennessee player
http://www.redraiders.com/2009/12/10/ex-vol-dt-committed-to-tech/
His name is Donald Langley. He looks like a pretty good player for Tech. The article says that he will enroll for the spring semester, so that will be good to work out with the team in the spring and be ready to possibly play next fall. He was a 4 star recruit coming out of high school (in which he played a 5th year?), was recruited by OU, Penn St., aTm, and many others, played at Tennessee for a year, did not get along with Kiffin, quit to play JUCO, and now has verbally committed to Tech, but is still taking a trip to Arkansas this weekend. Wow, what a story.
I guess we shouldn't celebrate until next week, though, until he actually says no to Arkansas, signs on the dotted line and shows up for class in January. We've had some success with JUCO DT's in the past, so hopefully he keeps up the tradition. Maybe these JUCO's like what they see at Tech and see potential after the breakout year that Brandon Sharpe had. I know there were some rumors about some other DT's they were trying to recruit also, but this one sounds ok to me. Anybody know anything else about this kid?

Young
Denton Ryan QB Scotty Young, a Rivals250 prospect, decided that he was “better off” playing for Mike Leach after visiting the Texas baseball program last weekend, according to scout.com.
And this kid Langley does look to be a type that will fit well in Techs scheme of things, as the list just gets better.

JUCO Defensive players
I have always thought juco is a great option on the defensive side of the ball. they spend two years getting stronger and faster while still ‘playing’, not just practicing. so the game speed is not a factor. and defensive players don’t take years to learn a system. I think TECH should go after more juco defensive players. that is what snyder (ksu) does and he always had great defenses.
it helps that he's not a "typical" JUCO prospect
in that he left Tennessee because of their coaching shake-up, not because of grade or discipline problems. So, great get. Welcome aboard, Mr. Langley.
