Texas Tech Coaching Staff

Now that the season has come to an end, I wanted to get your thoughts on Leach's coaching staff.  Since Leach's arrival to Tech, we have seen Leach bring in coaches who excel in their areas and then become head coaches or get promoted to assistants elsewhere i.e. Art Briles, Dana Hogerson.   Besides Ruffin, who the heck are these other guys?

1)  Do we have any up and coming coaches that could be plucked away by other staffs?  Besides Ruffin, they aren't necessarily household names.....but the team exceled under their leadership, so they're doing something right.

2)  Our recruiting has been exceptional and I'm certainly really excited about the 2010 class.  We see Leach getting some good players from Florida and getting the Young kid from UNT. Do we have that mastermind recruiter behind the scenes making this all happen?  I'm assuming one of these assistants is dazzleing these kids.

3)  I love that we have Strength Coach Bennie Wylie.  He's always on the sidelines firing up the players and you can't miss his energy.  He's someone we need to hang on greatly.  Eric Russell has been a great addition to our special teams.

4)  Because of some of the past shakeup in staff, do you feel that has affected the consistency or chemistry of this team? That coach Seth Littrell leaving last year comes to mind.

Anyways, love to hear your thoughts  on this.  I don't think we talk about this all much given that the Head Pirate does most of the talking.

1. Not that I can think of. Maybe Cumbie, but I think he’s being groomed for something bigger.
2. Lincoln Riley
3. Bennie Wylie loves it here. He won’t go anywhere. Eric Russel has done an amazing job with this unit. I’m sure he’s going to stay with us for a while.
4. Nope.

Both line coaches are doing a great job. I sure hope we can hang on to them.

Michael Crabtree’s “hype” is being questioned by Adam Schefter of ESPN. Maybe if he actually saw how poorly the 49ers’ QBs are throwing, he wouldn’t ask that question. Tonight should show it all, though.

Yep…I forgot about Sonny Dykes…I think that was a huge void. He’s now the OC at Arizona and they seem to be running full steam.

TTU has a bunch of young coaches on staff, anyone of whom can be expected to develop and make a career move as we have seen in the past with others.

Have no doubt that these coaches are not known in the world of football. TTU has one of the best head coaches in amatuer football, and all the others are paying attention. They all know that the staff is as important has the head and will look for an opportunity to hire a Mike Leach trained assistant coach.

There is a constant stream of guys coming though this program, it is a testimony to the ability of the head coach.

I don’t know the answer to TTU’s recruiting success, it is part from the guys in the field who make contacts with hs and jc coaches and develop relationship. It is part from a great mix of young developing coaches and guys who have been around for many years, who know their game and have great ability to develop talent and teach football. It is part from the success of individual players fulfilling ambitions and the team’s success on the field. If there is a name I am interested in knowing more about, it is the guy, if there is one, who took Dennis Simmon’s place as recruiting coordinator.
