Off season thoughts and ideas

Merrik already came up with the idea for the post on the All Mike Leach Texas Tech Football Team. Seth ran with idea to make it an offseason topic to keep us from losing our minds. I'm all for the idea and I think we could have a great time with it.

While mulling the idea over in my head I skipped over to Corn Nation to see what was going on in their neck of the woods. Everything seems well building up to the Big 12 Conference Championship Game. I did notice that they have a Corn Nation T-Shirt....... Jealousy on the highest level!!

Of all the quotes and posts during game threads and any other post, we have had some definite winners. I've made many a comment to "make that a t-shirt." I think that time is growing near. So, I have an idea for the offseason. All participants of DTN should make an effort to come up with a logo or design for a shirt of some sort. It could be a gameday shirt or whatever. This is something that could kill time before spring practive rolls around. I've read many quotes, viewed lots of artwork, and witnessed an alarming rate of comedy that seemed to be great ideas for a shirt.

So, if Seth is ok with the idea I think we should give this a shot. I'm not much on the business aspect of this as far as producing and selling. But I'm sure there are enough people on here that could help out with that part.

Thoughts?

Anything Tech

Anything Texas Tech Red Raider & Lady Raider Sports Associated—FB, BaseB, BsktB, Socr, Trk, Tnis, Glf—- You name it, we need a T-Shirt——Better than UT or OU might have. This could get interesting.

I'd buy one for sure

It would also be great if we could dedicate one home game next year to a DTN tailgating venue. I have the smoker and will be buying 2 tailgating spaces in the Math/Chem. lot for the 2010 season.

or you could rely on a student to get passes to raidergate so you have a live band…….

Does this mean that we too could become t-shirt fans?

Of course, missing out on the socially-fulfilling adventure of going to Walmart (and drooling over all the hot stretchpants babes) would still leave us a bit shy of the mark set by the tea-sips. Alas, such lofty standards are difficult to meet, especially for a bunch from Lubbock where outdated notions such as inflexible gender preference are sadly still prevalent.

I prefer

my gender preference to be flexible. Yoga instructors ftw.

I'm all for

both ideas. I’ve tried to find folks around me that would help with design and layout with t-shirts, but come empty. I’ve also set up a spreadshirt website, but thought that $20+ for a t-shirt seemed like a bit much. Any ideas on how to make this happen, I’m all ears.

I’ve also promised myself that we (i.e. DTN) must have a get-together. Internally at SBN, I just received a memo regarding how to set stuff like this up. I’ll probably be picking a game and just see what happens. I’ll also contact the athletic department to find out if they want to promise a section of tickets to a game, and anything else I can think of. I have no idea if local businesses (since I’m not local, in DFW) would want to sponsor this type of event.

I honestly have no idea how many people this would draw, but if we do it every year, then it’s bound to get bigger and bigger.

The guys over at Uniwatch do a face to face once or twice a year. Maybe reach out to the guy who runs that site for advice on how to really make that happen. uniwatchblog.com.

One of the lead

writers at Atletics Nation that is in charge of putting events like this together just compiled a relatively lengthy memo about how to arrange such an event, although the guys that set up the UniWatch get-together seems more like: we’re meeting at this bar, wear your interesting jersey and we’ll see you there. I’m going to try for a little more organization.

Alamo Bowl tailgate?

by kayakyakr on Dec 7, 2009 1:19 PM CST up reply actions

in expanded commentary, I’m hoping to get to san antonio fairly early in the day for the night kickoff. I’ll have my father, and friend in tow, and likely my sister, if the “connection” comes through with decent seats. Will be driving up from south texas, so it’s bout 4 hours away. I will volunteer to consume food at any tailgate that offers free.

A DTN get together is a fantastic idea.

Unfortunately, the family doesn’t like driving to Lubbock (I’m in DFW), so I won’t be able to attend the get together/tailgate bonanza until 2011 (when I’m officially a Red Raider).

I think a DTN t shirt would be awesome. I’m thinking a white background with the DTN logo centered on the front and possibly on the back a top ten list of Tech victories in the Mike Leach era or even a top ten list of Mike Leach quotes.

T-shirts? We don't need no stinking T-shirts!

It seems Bill Belichick is a Romer disciple as well.
