Think about Ruff
As many of you, I've been thinking about Leach's replacement. I think Ruff is the best choice, and here's why. I've been a leader of people my entire professional life and the lesson I learned early on is "win their hearts and minds". Ruff is very popular and has the support of the team. Plays don't run themselves, and schemes, and passes etc. They are all run by young men. If those men believe in you then they will give you everything you ask for. I have seen this in my professional life and believe it is true now at Tech. Ruff may not be the best play caller but the kids love him and that's enough. He will recruit well too. If these young men are motivated and loyal to Ruffin, they will give him everything he wants. Use Cumbie and Riley as the offensive OCs, it's good to have young blood in their too. Give Ruff a chance. I belive this is a good idea for him as DC and I truely believe he was starting to turn things around. Now let's give him a chance at HC.
a confused, angry, upset, devastated, embarrassed, sad, and slightly drunk Red Raider.

I would love for Ruff to be the HC, but I don’t know as much about Riley. I know he is very young, as well as Cumbie, so they would be awful inexperienced to lead a Big12 offense that is known for being spectacular. Plus, how will the players react to Riley after the email got out with his very negative comments about Adam James? I just don’t think this would all come together. I’d be more inclined to think that Riley would follow Leach to a different job if it comes up.
Dennis Simmons would be the only one I can think of that would follow Leach.
Riley and Cumbie would be a perfect fit for an OC combo. I think they will stay on the South Plains to better themselves and run the Air Raid to the best of their abilities….
Outside the box thinking from the fresh minds of these two could be damn scary….

…but my management experience has taught me that being liked is not often the best goal for a manager to have. Even hard-working people have a little bit of laziness in them, and ‘friends’ always feel like you will give them a break and won’t come down hard on them. And they want to do things their way instead of your way. IMHO, friendly relations are very important but only when tempered with a dose of respect and even fear. In the heat of battle, you need troops that jump to instead of wanting to debate the issue.
