After much thought, I'm pulling for Neb. tonight.
If Texas loses, we go to the better Holiday bowl. I am all for a trip to California! If Texas goes to the 'ship, they get even better recruits for the next few years. Also, if they play a good game tonight, McCoy undeservedly gets the Heisman. Is it really worth hearing UT fans mouth about a 'ship for the next 10 years? I think not! Plus.... I know it isnt good for us if TCU goes, but I feel like they have earned a shot. Who doesnt want to see Bama and TCU defenses match up in the national championship game? But anyhow, call me a bad Tech fan if you want, but I'm definitely pulling for Nebraska tonight.

I'm talking to myself and I dont even care
these refs are suddenly helping Texas out. BS pass interference against the Huskers, then a no call on obvious interference on a Husker long ball. How does UT always get these calls?!
Oh well.....
Texas better buck up if they want to compete with Bama. That kind of play isn’t going to fly with them….

Suh for Heisman!!
For once I would like to see a defensive guy win the Heisman and what better choice this year than Suh!! Tebow didn’t get it done, McCoy ( the media darling) didn’t get it done, Ingram did, however, no one had a more dominating performance than Suh! How I hate orange!
Oh So Close
Man, that had to be crushing to NU fans. What a blunder to kick off out of bounds.
Remember how the teasips bad-mouthed a win with 0:01 on the clock? Guess that’s a one-way street.
Not to be a "Tech complainer"
but that BS pass interference call on 3rd and long that the announcers talked about put UT in field goal range. McCoy was obviously throwing the ball out of bounds, and the receiver had even given up on it. That call handed Texas 3 pts. They won by 1. Seems to me that UT won another game due to a referee. Can anyone recall a single close game that UT has won in the past 10 years without a questionable call that could have been the game? Now we have to hear them talk their shit for years and years, even though they admit calls go their way. “Whatever it takes to win” is the answer I get from UT fans when it comes to bad calls. How can we stop this horrible officiating?!
Try officiating sometime RdrPwr.
It might give you a bit more appreciation for how tough it actually is at that level – not saying I disagree with the call you are mentioning, however, it’s all a part of the game – coaches make bad calls, players miss tackles, passes, & blocks, and yes, officials screw up. What’s always been interesting to me is that it is the one position on the field that is expected to be 100% right for 60 minutes (or 48 in high school) or it’s a bad night – a QB can be 70% right and they are incredible. I guess it’s why the stripes get paid the big bucks! Actually, and I will probably get stoned for saying this, the Big 12 produces some pretty good officiating crews, especially compared to the other conferences.

I'm not saying Officiating is easy at all,
it just seems like the majority of the bad calls that are expected to happen, happen FOR ut in their games. I saw alot of missed holding calls, and a block in the back in the Neb. kick return. Those didnt upset me so bad. Those calls are calls that are hard to see, and I completely understand that. But… that pass interference call?! I just dont see how that flag was possibly thrown. Missing calls and making up calls are two different things.
I can see how it was called ...
Actually, after reviewing it, I can see how it was called, however, I don’t agree with the call. Review process in the Big 12 is intense – been there, done that – I can guarantee you there is not a Big 12 official out there that “makes up a call” – they “miss” some calls, however, the game happens so fast I can promise you from experience it would be almost impossible to “make up a call”. You can go on any blog tonight and fans from every team think they “got screwed”, were “homered”, etc. – Keep in mind that’s fans from both teams in the same game – might be just a bit biased – nah, fans would never be biased now would they? Any time judgement is involved there are always going to be differences of opinions – that’s the part I love about sports – it’s fun to debat, argue, have fun!
Seems that after realizing that the receiver had stopped trying he would have waved off the flag. But… it wasnt a Tech game, so i’m going to back off of it haha. Now for a true, unbiased officiating question: http://www.big12sports.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=10410&ATCLID=1522906 Big 12 says that a clock adjustment can only take place when a ruling is overturned, therefore how can they review the time on the clock on that last play? It was the right call in the long run granted, but just wondering how that one pans out.
NCAA trumps Big 12.....
That’s just what I’ve read. Also, Mack Brown was relentless in calling time out @ the 00:12 mark and was never noticed.
We all know how much I don’t like UT, but that was obvious. Nebraska wanted it more, but UT got it.

I wasnt complaining, the right call ended up being made.
Just saw the guys on CornNation talking about it and was curious.
I won't say I'm correct either. That's just what I've read thusfar.....
I don’t see any good reason why the Big 12 would have a different rule than the NCAA….. Seems kinda strange.

Actual Rule Used Saturday - 12-3-6
RdrPwr & KWashburn – sorry for the delay – wasn’t paying attention! All the blogs, etc. that I have seen / read / etc. on this subject left out the specific portion of the replay rule that applies in the situation that occurred Saturday. Rule 12 in the NCAA Rules Book deals solely with the Replay issue. Section 3 – deals with what plays or types of plays are reviewable – Article 6 addresses Saturday – Titled “Limitations on Reviewalbe Plays”: Article 6. “No other plays” (articles prior to this one list all the plays which are the ones everyone has been listing on the blogs, etc.) “or officiating decisions are reviewable.” (That’s where everyone stops, however, you must continue reading). “However, the replay official may correct egregious errors, including those involving the game clock, whether or not the play is reviewable.” – obviously the key here is the part about situations involving the “game clock” – this “catch all” portion was put in for timing situations because most of the time when it matters it will have nothing to do with an officials call or no call.
Thanks for clearing that up. I just saw the Big12’s rulings on replays so I was curious. I’m glad the correct call ended up being made.
Still wish Colt took 1 more second!
Still would have been the perfect ending to a crazy season if Colt & Macky boy would have blown it!
When you have the luxury of replay there is very little excuse for sucking. At middle school and high school you have to go by what the official thinks he saw or made up, but replay has done little more than slowing the game down. The officials and the conferences have shown they are still going to do whatever they need to do to get who they want in the bowls they want.
Typical fan - but that's okay!
Couple of items:
1. I always get a kick out of the comments like "you have to go by what the official thinks he saw or “made up” and the conspiracy comments like “The officials and the conferences have shown they are still going to do whatever they need to do to get who they want in the bowls they want.” College and high school football officials don’t do it for a living – they all have jobs, families, etc. and could not afford to jeopardize all of that to “make up” some call or "do whatever it takes to get who they want blah, blah, blah. Again, not saying they don’t make mistakes because they do! Not to say there are not some weak officials, because there are (believe me I’ve had some of them on my crews!) However, there is a high degree of integrity in the avocation.
2. Please, please, try officiating – obviously you think officials need all the help they can get! And actually they do as there is a shortage of officials (can’t imagine why since they are treated so respectfully!). Not only would it give you a great appreication for the Officiating avocation, you might actually enjoy it!
I know we have a bowl
to go play and WIN.But God I can’t wait till 9/18/10.

If chaos shows its head, I will have won the fight. There are people here that still don’t believe “the catch” last year.

I know Cinci is higher in the computers than UT, but there is no way they will make up that amount in the human voting. Now, tonight, all my friends were talking about how TCU was going to the NC if UT lost, and anyone with common sense and knowledge of how the system works knows that Cinci will relatively easily pass TCU in the BCS Standings come tomorrow and be a clear 3rd. If Cinci would have gone into PITT and stuck it to them than maybe we could have a real conversation about this, but there is just way too much ground to make up between them and UT. The numbers may come relatively close, but there is no chance that UT will fall from #2.
With that said, I hope I don’t know what I am talking about and they do because their fan base would go crazy and I WOULD LOVE IT! But it’s not going to happen.

Bama will destroy UT
Texas has stuggled but found ways to win all season. The Tide team that played FL on Saturday will beat UT with ease if Mack doesn’t get these guys ready. Personally I think UT is there by default and Cin or TCU would be a better team against bama but the hype wouldn’t be there. NU beat themselves with that penalty and kick off. Texas got real lucky on this invite.
We heard the same thing before: You can't beat USC.
Florida heard it when they played Ohio State, too.
Ohio State heard it when they played Miami.
That’s why they play the games.
Yes but...
Texas fielded a much better team in ‘05. This season UT had a great deal on their side such as OU, Tech and OSU all suffering from injuries and player suspensions(Dez). Tech was rebuilding and had a beat up team with injuries that lasted all season long. OU lost Bradford after game #1 and several others later. Now I know that all this is football and goes with the game but you must admit that UT has an average team this season in comparison to the ’05 group. UT’s perfromance has been just enough to get by and last night’s game was horrible for a team vying for the NC. I suspect this NC game will not be as exciting as most would like and I could see Bama winning by as much as 21. Good luck to you guys despite my opinions.
Who was injured for Tech when they played UT?
It’s not like Alabama looked invincible all year. They very nearly lost 3 games too.
I won’t call this team “average” compared to ’05. Yes, the ’05 team was possible the best of the BCS era (along with ’01 Miami), but the bottom line is this team finds ways to win games. Defensively, we are possible better than the ’05 team (that put Michael Griffin, Cedric Griffin, Michael Huff, Brian Robison, Tim Crowder, Frank Okam, Rakpo, Roy Miller, and more in the NFL).
Let’s not forget that Alabama needed TWO blocked field goals to beat a terrible Tennessee team. Nebraska’s defense is every bit as good as LSU and Tennessee and we saw Alabama limp to wins in those games. We’ll head down with the QB who has won more games than anybody else in the history of the game, and, as long as he’s playing, I like our chances. We will have 31 days to get ready for the game. To just say you know for sure that UT is going to lose is incredibly arrogant. I think past examples in MNC games (Nobody saw USC dismantling OU, Florida beating OSU, etc.) there’s no telling how the game will unfold. I thinkBest of luck with Michigan State in San Antonio. Here’s hoping all Big 12 teams represent the league.
If I remember correctly we only had one Def. end in Austin this year, and an injured safety. But yeah, I dont know what to think about this game. Bama will slow down that UT Offense, and UT SHOULD be able to slow down Ingram. UT hasnt played against a back of that caliber all year, so thats what this game hinges on in my opinion. If they slow him down, it will be a great defensive game (much like last night’s). If they cant slow him, ’Bama is going to make a mockery of this squad.
The way I see it...
the Big 12 was flat this season. UT capitalized and I think that’s great. I just don’t see the NC game representing the 2 best teams in college football. I do believe that Bama deserves to be there after what they did against FL. I just can’t see UT living up to the bill of the NC game. I would say they are a BCS team but that’s about it. NU game really exposed UT’s weaknesses. Where was the running and passing game last night? Congrats on getting to the big dance as I wish we could manage that some day. I do want you guys to represent the conference well even though I may seem negative regarding UT’s invite to the NC game. In the end I just have a hard time believing this is a good match up. I do congratulate you guys and wish you luck in the end.
After watching Alabama dismantle Florida and Texas struggle it's easy to think it will be a blowout
I get that, and UT hasn’t played a ground attack like Alabama’s. That’’s true. But, I will suggest that Alabama hasn’t played a QB like Colt either. I know he looked awful at times yesterday, but I’ve seen him pull too many tricks out of his hat to not think he has a fighting chance at moving the offense.
Defensively, we will be fine. Let’s not forget that McElroy is still rather young, and is barely getting his footing passing the ball. It Texas can take away his security blanket (Colin Peek), and limit Ingram’s gains on first down, it’s gonna be a very, very close game.
The 2 areas I see...
as a major concern for UT would be stopping Julio Jones on pass coverage and Ingram on the ground. This is a very dangerous combination Alabama has and McElroy is playing like a seasoned QB. I’m not convinced after UT’s last 2 games that Mack can muster up a game plan that tops Saban. I hope you’re right in that this will be a close game but I just have a hard time believing it from what I’ve seen lately. This game is a month away so both teams have plently off time to get ready.
Agree that Saban is a bettter at gameplanning
Usually Mack and his staff make great halftime adjustments, and we didn’t see that against Nebraska. I don’t see this game being an OU-USC style blowout though, there is too much talent on UT’s defense. It’s gonna be a grinder, and that style favors Alabama.
After tonight's game
My thoughts after tonight’s game is that how come in the regular season we completely ripped two of the Big XII’s best defenses (Nebraska and Oklahoma) and could not keep up with one of the worst (Texas A&M).
TCU is overrated
I think TCU is overrated. Yes they have a defense but all they have played are two ACC teams (we all know the quality of ACC this year) and they have beaten two non BCS teams Utah (at home) and BYU (the same team that got blown out by Florida State). I for one do not think that TCU deserves to go to the National Championship game.
Their strength of schedule was nearly twice that of UT’s in preseason. I dont necessarily think TCU should go over an undefeated Texas, but I cant say that Texas should go over an undefeated TCU either. There is absolutely no way of knowing who the best team in the country is this year, especially if 3 teams finish undefeated after bowl season. BCS is a joke, and seasons like this prove it.
Their SOS was nearly twice of that in "preseason"
That might be true, but we have to play in the Big 12 afterwards, remember? It’s not the MNC of the preseason, it’s the MNC of the entire season….
I do agree that there’s no way of knowing if TCU is better than UT or Alabama. It’s not like they beat us head to head and still got in… oh wait, that’s what happened to us last year. The system sucks.
found this quote
on another web site.I have to agree. If you saw it you can see him waving both hands in disqust for NEB to gat off the fied like-get the F back.
Tom Walker, who was the referee for last nights Big XII Championship game is the same official who didn’t call the helmet personal foul in the UT game by Krash Kindle into Taylor Potts, resulting in a Potts concusion. Big XII privately admitted to Tech Chancellor that call should have been made.

Dude, it was a legal hit. He hit him on the chest. It was textbook.
There is no international conspiracy to help Texas win, you guys should know that since you knocked Texas off last year. Where were the mighty Big 12 refs then? Did refs make Leach go for it, recklessly, against Houston (a mighty C-USA runner up with 4 losses). Did refs make Tech’s offense limp against an OSU team UT dismantled? Did refs push Cyrus Gray and Christine MIchael over the goal line? Believe it or not, Tech can sometimes lose without their being a massive commissioner led effort to make money by elevating UT.
You guys did incredibly well this year considering the struggles of Potts and losing some key players (Vasquez and Crabtree in particular). Torres is turning into an absolute stud. Sharpe had a magical year. To continually find petty excuses for losses takes away from how good your team did this year.

How can you possibly say that?!
That isnt his chest…. just saying. And I just find it odd that the only team we really complain about the officiating of is UT. Calls go in Texas’s favor entirely too often, unless you’re a UT fan, then its just enough to win. I have plenty of UT friends, both alumni and Tshirt fans, and the majority of them will talk about how the officials seem to help them out. But hey “whatever it takes to win right?”
This can be debated for days..
And it already has. But, if you ask me he made a legit effor to lower his helmet into the Potts chest. After contact, he followed through with his legs to push Potts back and up (Helmet fly off). If he wanted to, he could have put his facemask on Potts helmet (i.e. helmet to helmet). That, sir, is helmet to chest.
Kindle said afterwards, “My facemask hit his chest,” Kindle said. “I didn’t intentionally try to hit him in his helmet.”
What more can he do, play two hand touch?
Awful high on the chest part, looks more like earhole to me. If Kindle didnt want to hit him in the helmet, it wouldn’t exactly have been hard to do since he came in basically untouched. I’m over it though, its done, congrats to Texas on an undefeated season. It shouldnt have been brought up because its over granted, but come on man! Lets just concede that it was a missed call haha.
Hmm...
I just find it odd that the only team we really complain about the officiating of is UT
You shouldn’t find it odd. You make this crap up because it’s UT. You think the sandaggies are actually on par with the Horns, and the only possible way you could lose is to have the refs conspire against you. In fact, some of you guys are already making excuses for next year’s game.
No not really.
There has been history of refs making some bad mistakes between Tech and UT. No excuses for next year as you guys will start to see a trending up of Tech beating you when we are at our home. Tech has improved and the home field is huge for us just like it is for you. I don’t feel like Tech is “on par with the Horns” but you will definately see an improved Tech team competing closely with UT moving forward. In the end you will not beat Tech in Lubbock in 2010 to answer your question.
I was pulling for Nebraska
Because I don’t want Texas to get to be the Big 12 champ, nor a national champ, and I’d rather see TCU go. Even if TCU hasn’t played anybody amazing this year, the Big 12 was down also with Texas’ big contenders (us and OU) having slightly off years, and OSU missing key impact players. I don’t like seeing the same teams playing for it every year.
I also hate the BCS and think that a Texas loss last night and then TCU getting blown out by Alabama would’ve hastened its demise because of fan outrage on all sides.
