I sort of hope the Alamo Bowl passes Tech over for Oklahoma

I'm not at all excited about playing either of the two 6-6 Big 10 teams available to the Alamo Bowl. The Pac 10 has about a half dozen teams tied for second place. The Sun Bowl will likely present a Pac 10 opponent with a record closer to Tech's. When an 8-4 team plays a 6-6 team in a bowl, they gain nothing by winning & they look like fools losing. It's a no-win in the Alamo Bowl. The only advantage I see there is more money.

At this time I would probably agree

I’m not crazy about the El Paso destination but the match up would sure be much better. Tech will shred Mich. State if that game comes to fruition. San Antonio is closer for me but I would rather see a more competitive game with another 8-4 team or better. Earlier I was all in favor of the Alamo Bowl since it’s a better bowl and payout but it needs to be a better match up. A&M (6-6) should play Mich. State (6-6) and Tech should play Georgia. Of course that won’t happen but it make sense. In the end all these non-BCS bowls are really just a cancellation prizes.

What about Ole Miss!

Exactly what everyone said about Ole Miss in last year’s Cotton Bowl – crazy things happen when teams have 30 days w/Christmas holiday smacked in the middle. I don’t care who we play as long as we go out with a bang!!

Whoever Tech plays....

I hope everyone on tihs blog will start respecting other teams. As tturef pointed out above, everyone thought we would destroy Ole Miss last year and look what happened. That easy home game this current year against Texas A&M was going to be a joke and every other comment on here was something about how we would kill them. How did that work out of us? Obviously, what you, me, or Seth writies on here has no outcome on how well Tech is going to play. Regardless, it sure looks better before and after a game when people haven’t guaranteed a win and we end up losing.

Wow,

I even reread this and missed my own typos. tihs = this. And how about writies = writes. Sorry!

I put zero stock in how I feel about a team vs. how the players view a team. I don’t need to remember anything, I don’t need to focus, I don’t need to do anything as a fan but cheer when something good happens. I guarantee Tech will beat MSU…for the record…

exactly

Mich State will bring zero against Tech. I would gladly eat some crow if I’m wrong but I just don’t see a 6-6 Big 10 school competing against the Tech. This game will be over very very very early folks.

Interesting....

It seems for the most part that everyone is extremely confident we are going to easily handle Sparty. May I ask where, exactly, this is coming from? Is Sheffield starting or something? We just came off a last-second 7-point victory against the mighty 4-8 Baylor Bears of whom were without their God of a player that happens to be a QB. Surely MSU is more physical than Baylor, and Baylor was even taking it to our D for a little while there. The one thing we have in our favor is that MSU has a rather weak pass defense, but so did A&M and Kansas and North Dakota (comparatively speaking). With Potts at the helm, you just never know.

It's hard proof reading your own stuff

Your brain knows what you meant to say so you don’t catch your own mistakes. I just let my receptionist proof read anything important. I’m sure she’d tell my wife I spend too much time blogging if I called her in my office before every post on DTN.

Plus if we as Techsters were perfect, what would the Aggies have to criticize us FOR? Ending sentences with prepositions? Where, then, would we be AT?

by Plano Jeff on Dec 9, 2009 4:25 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

ya exactly

everyone also thought that we would destroy A&M, Baylor, North Dakota (score should have been MMUUCHHH worse), and Houston this year. I don’t have a clue about this team anymore. The only thing I can say about them with any sort of confidence is that if Sticks were to start against Michigan State I do think we would kill them. With Potts, though, anything is possible. I wouldn’t be surprised if this game turns out to be a lot like the Baylor one, with the defense putting us in position to win the entire game and the offense exhibiting what would have to be considered and could only be described as the absolute bare minimum, vomit-inducing, hair-depleting “effort” that is required to win a football game.

yeah

but in reality its not a big deal cuz we’re not in the top 25 here

plus

San Antonio jan 2 Sat night ESPN primetime would bring in way more media and viewers than shitty el paso…….

not true, the Sun Bowl is on network TV (CBS)

And to see Tech and Gerhardt play would be much more appealing than Michigan State. $50 bucks to anyone who can name 2 Michigan State players off the top of their head! (okay, that’s not a real offer!)

I looked at their roster…and still can’t name two guys on their team. Is that an indictment on them…or on me??

by Tech92 on Dec 7, 2009 1:45 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Awesome!!

I think they have Javon Ringer, right? How long ago was that?!

wasnt that a basketball player for them last year?

indictment

good play on words considering their current state of affairs up there.

be thankful

that we are going bowling. This season could have been much worse. We fought through bullshit this whole season. Yeah its gonna be a bad matchup but its still good for recruiting, tech’s gets a lil cheeze in its pocket, and we get a W. We try again next season.

by wrench_raider on Dec 6, 2009 2:12 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

Be thankful, indeed...

I hate to be a skeptic, but we barely pulled the W against a decent Bears team. I don’t know if I want a “good” matchup. We may just need a bowl win to end the season and move on. I’m not a professional or anything, but that just sounds good to me…

I have two chances to win

One is us beating MSU soundly and ending the season ranked going into next year.

The other is watching UT get crushed by Bama so we don’t have to endure those insufferable trolls all year. How they didn’t slip in the rankings is beyond me. They barely escaped their last two games against mediocre opponents. I don’t see them having a chance against Alabama. Even if they bring their own refs.

Michigan State is Baylor

Folks lets not underestimate Michigan State. In a lot of ways they are of the same caliber as Baylor. On paper we could blow them away but on the field it will depend on who runs our offense and how our offense performs, and assuming that the defense continues its good work. So, Michigan State will not beat us but we could beat ourselves like we almost did with Baylor and with A&M.

Spart will be well prepared for Raider Red

They have TVs up there too, and they are probably crapping their pants trying to figure how they can contain our O, perception not being reality here, they will be ready to fight. Meanwhile, back in Lubbock, we’re still lazily getting ready for a trip to Sanantone.

The Vegas line has Michigan State @ 10.......
