Oh good lord...

Seth Littrell, our running backs coach and top recruiter, has left Texas Tech for Arizona.

He also is only going to be their running backs/tight-ends coach, something people would call a "lateral move". ALong with being responsible for the great RB production this year, Seth is the one who recruited Pearlie Graves, Ladrian Waddle, Jacob Karam, and Eric Stephens.  Mike Leach's and Texas Tech's bickering has caused this and it will only get worse. Brace yourselves people.

Easy there…I can think of several reasons to go to Arizona as a lateral move that don’t involve Leach (it’s a cool city, smoking hot co-eds, maybe more money, maybe family considerations, love of PAC-10, Lubbock beat him down, etc).

He cited Leach’s contract question marks as a reason for this move. He had been offered this same Arizona job in years before and had turned it down.

A thought: It is, in a way, about positioning. Once Seth Littrell is on the Arizona staff, he may be positioned just below Sonny Dykes being in charge of the offense. Sonny Dykes is reportedly a hot commodity for OC positions and is only a few years off of being a good candidate for a HC job somewhere. Perhaps he is trying to be at the right place at the right time?

Hadn’t read anything “official” about his departure or his reasons. Interesting that the contract issue had this as a bit of collateral damage. I didn’t see that coming at this juncture. Could be about positioning…could be about making sure he has a decent shot at keeping the same job past 2009.

I have been in ML's position, though on a much smaller scale...

In the past, when I had employees I couldn’t keep because I couldn’t get them the money or because they warranted promotions I couldn’t give. I hope you’re right Kayakyakr. With Mike Stoops and Littrel, AZ has some serious TEXAS recruiting street cred.

Thanks, Myers.

Thanks, Leach. Thanks Hance. Thanks agents. Nice. Real nice. If this starts a bleeding effect, Tech suffers big time, then returns to being middle-of-the-pack once again. If any of these guys care a whit about this university and its competitiveness in football, they will close the deal and start paying attention to the BIG picture and not just their own pocketbooks.

I think this is just a knee-jerk reaction to the Leach deal, and more will come and the Leach deal will continue to be the blame. Seth leaving may or may not be a result of the ambiguity of this whole charade. Can we really say that a certain coaching staff member was responsible for this and that player?

I agree with Tech92…have any of you ever been to Tucson? Great hottie co-eds who wear next to nothing year round, awesome golf courses, cool city, and the state university. Maybe this be a lateral move but he could move up faster and be an OC at some point.

Coaches come and go….again, I support Texas Tech University and the coach of Texas Tech (who wants to be here) will bring the right staff in and the best players.

I have to agree here

This was the first year that we had a specific person in charge of recruiting players, so it is easy to say that he is responsible for this guy or that guy. Personally I see him viewing an option to move up within a few years in a way that wasn’t possible at Tech … or perhaps getting his foot in the door in the Pac-10… No real cause for panic though.

I don't like it but..

I’m not to worried about it either. Hell I would rather lose him than have lost a handful of good recruits we landed. Don’t be to sold on his bringing the talent to Tech. A great deal of the coaching staff such as Ruffin made all that happen also. Besides that, Arizona may have the hot chicks and all that but their program sucks. Tech is better positioned than AZ and will continue to be should we retain Leach. Littrell more than likely saw that he hit the ceiling at Tech and wanted to diversify his resume more with another program. I wouldn’t hit the panic button over losing him. Lastly, from what I’ve seen we have our fair share of hot chicks at Tech but maybe noy the geography. Just my opinion.

Leach camp countered tonight… softened the four sticking point clauses, but they’re still there. This according to Lubbock TV….

Maybe..

Maybe Seth is leaving because they will let him get stupid drunk every night instead of just before a big bowl game.

Can we actually affect this situation?

Maybe Leach said this is the best we can do. If you can find a better fit elsewhere you should take it. Except in this case Leach’s hands really were tied, and it really was the best that he could do for an assistant coach unlike another situation. I am sure Leach is not throwing a fit about Littrell looking at other jobs either.

How much of this do you think actually gets back to Myers and Hance? Do you think we , as fans and alumni, can influence this situation? Or are we just pissing in the wind? Also can you say that on here?

Is it just me

or does the solution seem pretty obvious. There are 4 clauses holding this contract back. Why don’t the two parties agree on two of them to remove and sign the damn thing. The only way that each party wins in this situation is if the contract gets signed. This is starting to put a bad taste in my mouth. I wish Hance and Leach would get together and figure this out instead of d bag Myers and Leach’s retard agents.

Solution

Leach becomes AD and head football coach. Myers retires to the new Red Raider retirement/assisted living facility. We give Myers lifetime season tickets as a parting gift.

Conclusion: Tech remains among the top 3 teams in Big12 south.

…and the rest of our sports tank. Leach is NOT an administrator. Good coach, yes.

by Tech92 on Feb 12, 2009 10:29 AM CST up reply actions

The rest are already tanking Gerald was a coach too.

by ST04 on Feb 12, 2009 10:45 AM CST up reply actions

I am not saying Myers is better…just that Leach wouldn’t be a step up in that regard. And you may be surprised that we do have a few very successful teams, though low profile.

I am guessing your are going to nominate Spike Dykes to coem in and be the next AD.

Out of left field, but no.

I haven’t heard that name mentioned since 1995ish.

Not sure that wouldn’t be a bad call at all. She knows and loves Tech more than any other coach we’ve ever had. She’s smart as a whip, as well. I’ve had the pleasure of her company numerous times through family connections and she’s Red Raider through and through.

Its Baseball Season

I’m tired of this crap. How ridiculous. Two stubborn ego maniacs that can’t or won’t work it out and may be ruining the program. I know its a business but does anyone think this is being handled in a professional manner? ARGH. They both need to walk the plank. Its baseball season. Let’s talk about Raider baseball, the Rangers or Astros. Or, who we will hire as our basketball coach next season.
