Double T Nation needs to make a stand...
If you want Leach to stay then you have to get off the "fence" and realize that the Red Neck Tech Administration might cost ALL our football fans a HUGE LOSS...so have the GUTS to use this forum to ORGANIZE alum to let Myers and Hance know that while they might have Tech's best interest in mind, but THEY ARE GOING ABOUT IT THE WRONG WAY!!! You are only as big as you see your self and our administration has not seen itself big and our program has suffered...
For Gods sake we were #2 aat one point last year and 11-2...what are you guys thinking, someone will do better??? No way!!!!!

I have emailed Myers. His statement today (which was entirely unnecessary) forced me to pick a side.
Of note, I haven’t received a response from Myers in the previous times I’ve tried to email him. I have received responses from Chancellor Hance. I’m certain that all three of the AD, Chancellor, and President are being hammered with emails at this point.
May be worthwhile to mail Mike Leach (snail mail, he doesn’t respond to emails in a timely manner, I have heard) if you feel that you have something worthwhile to say to him as well. I think that the only thing worthwhile to tell Mike would be something about firing his IMG agents.
I have tried
to email him twice but I always get an automated response right back immediately that says to call someone. Do you know what email to reach him at, kayakyakr?
tired of the Captain's ways
I have been on the captains “side” until the last few days. I still hope he stays, however my stand is that there is nothing wrong with wanting just a little commitment from the man himself. I only hope that something is already worked out for some good news next week with a new contract or a new coach!
Tired of what???
tech 77 you need to wake up and not forget what our team, led by our inept administration was-
NOT A WINNER…
So you need to have an EGO to succeed in everything in life!!!! So what that Leach wants the best for him and the team… get on board with the paradigm of a winning program!!!
I've been awake
I have read and discussed this as much as anyone, and I have just read Seth’s post about the blame, and I totally agree with him. Blaming all involved is not riding the fence in my opinion
Who does the distraction benefit?
The men’s basketball team
because no one is talking about how poorly we’ve played this year or how we need to improve to get back to the March Tourney.
+++ Tech 92
I was on awesome basketball, baseball teams in school, but our football team had a tradition of Detroit-esque loosing(I was on that team too) one thing I noticed as a young buck though…On our good teams, when things didn’t go our way, we’d band together and figure a way to win. We had the attitude that we were the best and we would pull it out and win. On our bad football team, we would start bickering amongst ourselves. I want to be on a winning team here and I think we should show respect to each other in this trying time.
Can you expain....
Seth-I totally understand that you are tying to be “Switzerland” and be neutral, but winning programs(and we know you really want Tech to be a top tier program) ALL had to take a chance on their coach and NONE of them have any of those four clauses in them!!!
So if you really want to see what is best for this football program then explain to Raider nation why our administration is putting Leach in a corner with those four clauses when they told him he was free to find a better deal prior to the 11-2 season?
Please help me understand WHY those four clauses were justified considering how Tech handled this contract prior to the season?
Justified
In loyalty!!!! We dont want him whoring himself out to other schools anymore. I remember the last time we did Leach’s contract we all thought that loyalty was ours and that we didn’t have to worry about him shopping around for jobs anymore… well not so much. I’m willing to believe that Tech would fold on 3 of the 4 adjustments as long as he says he wont shop around anymore. Looking at 3 strait seasons of wondering if Mike will stay or leave us, that is more than justified.

Have you been hiding under a rock?
How much more loyalty do you want?
Mike Leach is not this guy:

If he was, he’d already be gone.
Wes Welker can't be stopped.
I have read it....
The thing about Mike Leach is he is always using the media to spin situations… He has done it for our football program in the past, and he has also done it for himself… if this whole scenario has taught me one thing about Leach and his crew its that they know how to spin the media.

Vassago77379 look at it this way...
if your boss told you it was OK to look for a new job if you wanted to make more money because he couldn’t pay you more than you were making,so after having a good year at work you start looking for better money and then your boss tells you that you are not loyal!!!
PLEASE THINK BEFORE YOU TRY TO APPLY LOYALITY TO THIS SITUATION
If it were just this year I would let it go...
But this has been going on for 3 seasons now and I for one am sick of it. If he were truly loyal, then he wouldn’t even let his hat be thrown into the mix as far as other jobs go. That’s just how it is … as fans we are left praying our coach will stay rather than knowing he wants to be there.
And another thing, its not like Leach was acting like he was loyal when he takes interviews and wont tell anyone about whats going on. At my last job my boss actually DID tell me that my company was going under and allowed me to look around for other positions elsewhere, and I let him know every time I had an interview… out of respect. So maybe you should THINK before you just assume that since we blog online that we don’t know about real world experience and how it can relate to this situation.

The thing that confuses me about this "loyalty" issue...
1) We want “loyalty” from Leach because we don’t want to worry about losing him or him deciding that he wants to go somewhere else. So our strategy in dealing with this concern is to push him out instead. Because we don’t want him to leave, we force him out. Sounds brilliant…
2) This expection of “loyalty” assumes we can find someone else who is “loyal.” So we expect we can pull someone else in here and they can become the most successful coach we’ve ever had, but they would never be interested in any other opportunity. What’s the reality basis for that expectation?
I see several people mention Art Briles as a candidate to replace Leach. Personally, I like Art Briles as a person and as a coach. But it’s a fact that he has not yet achieved success on the college level comparable to Mike Leach. I think everyone assumes, since Art Briles graduated from Tech, he would be more “loyal” to Tech. Art Briles PLAYED FOOTBALL FOR UH FOR 3 YEARS!!! The “loyalty” factor didn’t work out too well for them. It’s not a knock on Art Briles – I’m just trying to put some factual basis around this expectation of “loyalty.” Really, who are the candidates that are going to be more successful than Leach, but not ever be interested in any other opportunity? Who’s going to be more successful than Leach, but never be targeted and tempted by some other big name program?
I agree that Leach’s contract should include some provision to notify Tech about interviewing for other jobs. In fact, Leach’s agents have indicated that they/he are in agreement with that principle. They have only stated that they can’t agree to the condition as it is currently stated in the Administration’s offer. That means they are willing to negotiate the condition. Is the Tech administration willing to negotiate it?
again...
2) This expection of "loyalty" assumes we can find someone else who is "loyal." So we expect we can pull someone else in here and they can become the most successful coach we’ve ever had, but they would never be interested in any other opportunity. What’s the reality basis for that expectation?
To take the inverse, you say Leach is great (and I agree) but what HAS he done? We’re still 3rd in the division. You say expectation of excellence, and I say still 3rd in the division. You say we finished 11-2, I say WE SHOULD HAVE BEEN AT LEAST 12-1!
I WANT Mike Leach to stay, I DO think he’s a great coach. But if we can’t get him to stop shopping around in December we’re going to have serious problems finishing the season EVERY YEAR. If Mack Brown had lost to OU in 2005 he’d probably have been fired by now. Instead he won that game AND the National Championship and is revered. If we consider our school to be a top flight program then why is an 11-2 season with two HORRIBLE losses supposed to be held up as the greatest thing ever? I was at the UT game and will remember than forever, but as far as the SEASON is concerned we should demand better. And if you ask how that relates to loyalty, if Leach doesn’t leave everyone (including his PLAYERS) wondering in December, then we win the Cotton Bowl and finish at 12-1 with a top 10 ranking. If Mike Leach is willing to COMMIT to Texas Tech and wants to build this program into a national power, then he can have everything we have and maybe a little more besides. Otherwise… well it’s good to know where you stand.
As a final note though, I HATE this, because I WANT Mike Leach to stay. I WANT him to build our program into a legitimate contender. I WANT Mike Leach to understand that I’ll back his “pirate” Raiders. But that said, I just don’t THINK he’s going to bring full success if he doesn’t commit AND there’s a part of ME that can’t fully commit if I can’t say with certainty that he won’t bolt for a “more prestigious” job. (And , I’ll TOTALLY understand if he leaves Texas Tech for USC and twice (or more) the pay, but it’s insulting to hear our program is not as “worthy” as a winless UW program, I don’t care about their history or whatever, we should not have anxiety over losing our coach to UW)
Last season, we were tied for 1st in the division...
The 11- 2 season is not the greatest thing ever… It’s just the best record for Texas Tech football since 1976 (32 years ago). Interestingly enough, that was a season after which the Tech football coach moved on to another opportunity.
Since that year, Tech has won 8 or more games in a season a total of 9 times (9 out of 32). Mike Leach was the coach for 7 of those seasons and has, in fact, done it 7 seasons in a row.
But forget all of that, what Leach has or hasn’t done…
Just tell me who we are going to get that will have as much or more success, but we know will not be interested in other opportunities. I’m ready to hire him on the spot.
