Gerald Myers probably wants to bring in his "good friend"
He will announce Bob Knight as the new football coach....hehehe. But, all kidding aside. Out with Myers!!!!! Gerald has shown the inability to be an effective athletic director. He was a sub par basketball coach...and when he was replaced by James Dickey he became very bitter. If we all remember, Myers got Dickey fired for having a couple of sub-par seasons after their 30-2 sweet 16 season. The team took such a bad turn because of the oversights that were overlooked in the NCAA rules book by Myers and company. This got scholarships taken away from the hoops team. Myers was most likely giddy when he got to fire Dickey and bring in Bobby Knight. Myers is an embarrasment to this school and should be shown the door.

Wait until the end of today or early tomorrow before throwing Myers out. This may not have gone the way we would have planned (and in reality, none of what has come out regarding the negotiation process should have come out in the first place), but you may be happy with the net net.
I’ve been supportive of the Tech administration in this one because I think we either need to know Mike Leach is (reasonably) committed to the program, or we may as well start looking into “next steps” now. But I can’t imagine Myers survives this process. I’m not saying his work has been terrible, but weeks ago the agents tried to do an end-around to the BOR and they slapped IMG down and told them to talk to the AD. Now, the BOR is getting involved directly. Now I’m sure Myers knew what the BOR wanted him to do and was working towards that goal, and possibly even did EXACTLY as they instructed and now will merely be the “fall guy”. But depending on how this works out, I can only assume either Myers or Leach will be gone by summer.
IF...
Myers did exactly what the BOR wanted, there wouldn’t be a meeting tomorrow. My guess is that BOR made, or assisted in, the decisions and set forth the direction…and Myers carried it out poorly. I’m sure the regents have a long list of things they could be doing tomorrow and aren’t too happy about calling this meeting. Leach isn’t a saint and he certainly had his missteps along with IMG, but the brunt of the responsibility to remain professional lies with our administration…in my opinion.
riiiiiiiiiiiiight
And every assistant coach ever fired was always an uncontrollable maverick who couldn’t handle the task of implementing the head coaches vision. I’m not saying that doesn’t happen, I’m not even trying to say that it’s inconceivable that Myers butchered whatever he was told to do or even said “screw that” to his instructions and went with his gut. But it’s also plausible that he was doing EXACTLY what he was told and it has just gone horribly, HORRIBLY wrong. (likewise, Mike Leach’s agents ALSO have done a terrible job which Coach Leach may or may not have been involved in organizing)
But regardless of whether he “went off the reservation” or “was just following orders”, I don’t see how Myers can still be AD after all this, especially if we do work something out with Coach Leach.
Sorry for the flurry of feedback on all these posts...
I’m stuck at O’Hare for about three hours so am having a chance to do so. I apologize in advance if I have been repetitive. But, as Tech92 has pointed out, as more info comes in my view of things tilts one way or another. I guess all we can do is wait until tomorrow.
Hance and Leach Have Been Meeting this Afternoon
They have been meeting in a conference room since 1 pm today, apparently just the two of them (ie, no Myers), so we hope that is a positive development.
