No Trust......No Peace
Like the rest of you I have spent way too much time thinking about this situation....flip flopping from one side to the other. Being a Tech alum my loyalty remains deep through thick and thin. Being a fan of the lead Pirate I have enjoyed the limelight he has brought to our university. Both sides have been incredibly inept during this process. There is enough blame to go around. However, I have come to the conclusion that there is no way out of this situation because there is no trust for the other party from either side. If Leach signs a new deal he will still have no trust toward Texas Tech's administration. If Leach signs a new deal the administration will have no trust toward Leach and his agents.
This conclusion is painful to admit but I think that it is time that Captain Leach is bought out. He will be owned 40% of his remaining two years. That would be around 1.6 million for two years. But you would also save the $800,000 bonus due the end of this year and I believe another $200,000 at the end of his next season. Not a great deal of money for Texas Tech to be out.
I would hate like the devil to not have him at the helm, but if he does not leave I think we are only putting off the inevitable down the road. I truly feel in my heart that if Leach had gotten in a room with Kent Hance that this thing could have been hammered out but Leach let his angents try to big dog Texas Tech. Let me tell you from personal experience that NOBODY big dogs Kent Hance. He is from Tech, he will do whats best for Tech and when he dies he probably wants to be buried in memorial circle. Can you say that about Mike Leach? The captain has been given a bit of a pass nationally because....well....that's just Mike Leach. Texas Tech has been made to look like a little country school that can't handle the spotlight. Truth be told there is.....and will not be ...any winners from this situation. Again I repeat that bottom line is No Respect from either party for the other one. I think tommorrow the BOR will approve the expenditure to buy out Mike Leach and Kent Hance will roll out the plank.
From there we find a person who bleeds red and black and wants to build on the wonderful stage of our development. I believe if this is not done then we are headed for another situation where it takes us many years to recover. See Jim Carlen and Steve Sloan departures. The Captain will find another job....although it won't be as high profile as you might think. Not many D-1 major programs will allow his "quirkiness" and refusing to hob nob with the fans or money people in their program. Should he have to do this as part of his duties? See Mack Brown, Bob Stoops, Jim Tressel and Pete Carroll for the answer. Texas Tech? Get your butt to Waco or Houston or Arizona and get a "Tech Guy" and don't miss a beat. Will it be easy? Nope! But we have alot to offer if we don't shrink back into our shell. Can't get a great coach you say? During the Carlen-Sloan-Moore disasters we were turned down by a pretty fair country former Texas Tech guy, and then we turned around and turned him down for the job. How would those lost years have been if we had hooked up with Grant Teaff? We will never know! But there are other guys out there that will build trust from both sides. Having put thoughts to computer I think I will go barf! God Bless Texas Tech but I really do think I'm gonna be sick and throw up!

I think it would make more sense to replace the inept administration. Hance can go back to lobbying in Austin and Myers can play golf. The world won’t end if two old Red Raiders prominent in the 1970’s move on to ther things. Mike Leach is the future. He’s the face of Texas Tech. We need to make and keep him happy.

Really
I just don’t see Leach being bought out for a whole host of reasons. Heres one. A major Tech gripe according to Meyers, is that they question the loyalty of Leach to the University. So tell me, do they really want to go after a guy that wasn’t “loyal” to Houston and if he comes to Lubbock wasn’t “loyal” to Baylor? Wouldn’t that be the definition of hypocrisy? Why in world would anyone believe the new “hire” given his track record, would be loyal to Tech if a better opportunity came along? Or do they hire someone like Leach without a proven track record, an offensive coordinator?

No Trust - No Peace
I agree with mbrown603 on this one. Mike Leach has filled the stadium in Lubbock, not Myers or Hance. Why were these two loyal Tech administrators not coming to the table last spring where Leach first wanted to get the deal done? Where were they when we sold all of our season ticket in August 08? Still not wanting to come to the table until after the season was over. Who tried to big dog who in this matter? Maybe Myers. I believe Hance and Myers would be easier to replace than Leach. Coach Leach is more than our head football coach, he is a good will ambassador for the entire university due to the great amount of press and publicity our university receives each rear due to his unique personality.
Get Coach Leach signed and move forward or we lose him and move many steps back.

Not sure looking for a “Tech” guy is the right approach either. That really only happens on rare occasions with talented coaches…and even that doesn’t work out sometimes (e.g., refer to West Virginia and Rich Rod). We just need the best coach with the best fit for the university…which at this moment in my opinion is Leach. Probably time for an AD change anyway. All major sports had an uptick when Myers first took over but have suffered quite a bit over the past few years…with the exception of football (again, because of Leach in my opinion).

We need Leach with conditions
We need to keep Leach, bottom line. The contract needs to have equal buyouts so that Tech really can’t fire him with out cause and he really can’t break his contract. That use to be what a contract was, right. If he doesn’t want to be here for 10 more years than he needs to go on down the road now. If he does we need to offer him everything possible and let him know we how important he is. The rest of the bs in the contract those idiots(admin) need to stick in their butts, but he can’t be looking for something better every year either.

Can't believe I am agreeing with anyone that goes by mbrown608
But I am. Hance can go back to fixing traffic tickets and DUI’s like he was doing whenI was there, and Meyers can just go.
Meyes will never win the “oldest person in college atheletics as long as Joe Pa is around anyway. (Sorry Joe, I can’t beleive I said your name and Meyers in the same sentence….sincere appologies)
I keep hearing that some "fatcat” donor is trying to pull these strings and he or she is the one that wants to jerk the good Captain around. The money whores of our admistration are bending over frontwards to allow this disaster. If this is in fact true, those of us who might still have a little cash after the ticket prices doubled, need to rise up and confront this d_ckhead. I don’t care if we have a house than is bigger than the evil empire, or if we play on a sandlot outside of Shallowater…..I just want to win. Leach has and can deliver
If there is some “T-Boone” wannabe out there, just donate like the rest of us and we will give you a cocktail in a new suite……….the shut the hell up and let those who know football coach football.
