NFL Network: Former Texas Tech WR Michael Crabtree Has Stress Fracture in Foot, Out 10 Weeks
Adam Schefter of NFL network, as I am sitting here watching the combine, says Crabtree will be out with a stress fracture. I wonder how this will hurt Crabtree. One question of the former Texas Tech wideout has been his long range speed and many people wanted to see him run according to the NFL Network crew. The injury will require surgery and that a screw be inserted in his foot.
I still don't think this will affect his draft status as a similar thing happened to Jonathon Stewart last year and he went 13.
Sad news for a great player in the Big 12.

Oh, I think this definitely affects his draft status. This could put the "injury prone" label on the guy. With as deep a WR class as there is in this draft, I won’t be surprised if he’s the second or even third WR taken (please, no replies that say I’m anti-Tech or a non-homer or whatever; it’s not an anti-Crab comment, it’s an honest assessment)…teams are SOO skittish anymore with injuries. Especially surgeries. I wish him the best and hope his body of work will speak for itself since he won’t have a chance to do a pro-day, I wouldn’t imgaine.
Hopefully his body of work will prevail but
him not being 6’3" but really 6’1" coupled with this injury could move him down…

If he does fall a bit in the draft,
being a Houstonian now, I would LOVE to see him fall to the Texans to compliment Andre Johnson on the opposite side. Unfortunately he’ll probably still be a top 7 pick or at worst a top 10 but either way it would be awesome to see him go to the Texans.

Probably true to an extent but he makes up for his height with his vertical and his hands. He has the best hands of any receiver in the last 15 years in College Football. The only other WR that is as good if not better is Fitzgerald….and we all know how good he’s become.
Crabtree is a combination of WR’s. He has the hands of Jerry Rice, the mentality and athleticism of Michael Irvin, and the instincts and speed like Fitzgerald. He’s the whole package. Let him drop out of the top 10…he’ll still be rookie of the year.
will remember
If people will remember the ATM game last year,Leach had him on kickoff returns,I have never understood why any coach would put your (BEST) offensive plyers on return teams.Course there are exceptions like Welker.I just cringed when he came up limping on that run back.Ever since then he has had an issue. If that is the case could he revolk his NFL status and come back to school?…huh? can he?….lol….I don’t know how that works.
1) Crab can’t return as he already has hired an agent.
2) Remember Willis McGahee….he ended up tearing every ligament in his knee, still became a #1 pick, and was an every down feature back early in his career.
3) I only wish my Dallas Cowgirls had a #1 pick to move up and get him.
4) I think after every team watched Larry Fitzgerald dominate during the playoffs, they won’t hesitate grabbing him if he falls out of the top 10.
5) One last note…Crab has been surrounded by great former NFL players i.e. Michael Irvin, Deion Sanders, etc. He’s been under their tutelage and once healthy, should transition well into the pro game.
That fracture
Without a doubt, that fracture occurred in the Baylor game when he caught a pass at the goal line and his ankle turned under a wierd way. He has not been the same since. It is a shame it took this long for it to be properly diagnosed. 6’-3/8" is still a good height for any wideout, and 215 lbs. is an awsome weight that he will not need to change. I really don’t think this will hurt him nearly as much as anyone thinks. It definately explains why his production dropped off as the Baylor game progressed and during the bowl game. The Tech docs SHOULD have made the proper diagnosis and kept him out of that game. With the proper mindset of the team knowing he would not be there, their preparation would have been focussed a bit differently and they would have had a much better chance, I think, of winning the Cotton Bowl. As far as Crabtree’s speed, it is above average and with the surgery he can really concentrate on upping his speed when he is fully recovered. At least now he and we know why his ankle would not heal quickly. It has a chance with the surgery of healing back to the strength it was before the injury. I am still expecting him to go early-top 4 to top 10. Still a good position. Whichever team drafts him will be very fortunate.

Interesting
During one of the games earlier in the year, one of the ESPN announcers said he had a fracture in his foot, not just an ankle sprain. I wonder, is the truth finally coming out? If it was a fracture and was never allowed to heal, that could explain a lot.
According to Crabtree . . .
his foot was broken “about a year” ago.
“I don’t know where that report came from,” Crabtree said. “It [stress fracture] has been there for about a year and it’s never caused me any pain. I can play with it the rest of my life. It won’t stop me from running. I’m going to run.”
If this is correct
Then the Baylor incident is what made it much worse. It could also explain why Crabs was not as explosive or elusive as last year. He was doubleteamed more, but he really didn’t handle it as well as he did last year in those instances. I am still wondering why Tech didn’t recognize the problem and try to get it taken care of, especially after the Baylor game. Irregardless, he will now get it repaired after his March Pro Day and have a couple of months to get it to heal well enough to go to his NFL team’s preseason camp and do well. So, the Michael of 2007 will be back and then we will see some more magic. YAHOO!

I hope Mike and Deion
Are watching Gruden and company on NFL network. Looks like he needs to just go ahead and have the surgery and skip the 40 so he’s ready for rookie camp.
I'd agree with you on that one.
They need to measure 5th gear speed if they want to see his true value. Ask the OU secondary from 2007 when he ran that slip screen 50 yards and kicked the pilon and “should” have gotten a TD.
