Texas Tech coach Mike Leach indicated during his national signing day news conference Wednesday that he and the university are at impasse in contract talks. Leach has two years remaining on his current contract, but two months of negotiations on a new deal have led nowhere.
"The money’s never been issue with the contract, not for quite some time,’’ Leach said. "The biggest thing with the contract is after about a year of negotiating, four items were presented that weren’t part of the original agreement and that aren’t acceptable, that we won’t agree to, so that’s what’s holding it up. But the money’s not the issue.’’
Leach was offered a five-year, $12.1-million contract on Dec. 4.
Asked if his and Tech’s being unable to reach agreement was used against the Red Raiders in recruiting, Leach said, "There’s some. Yeah, absolutely that existed.’’

I would bet one is the buyout…what the other three would be, I’m not sure. We have very good facilities, so it probably isn’t that. Maybe something about mandatory fund raising appearances or booster club glad-handing. But other than those, I can’t think of four things that Leach would either want or not want that aren’t in there. It is nice to know it’s not a money squabble.
Maybe they want him to wear shoes when he comes to work instead of flip flops : )
The thing I find most interesting is
that Leach basically said, “Gerald, it’s your move.”
Go Raiders . . .
Double-T Nation
Myers, Hance.
Get off your collective butts and stop screwing around. Take off your stupid changes and get the contract signed. If Leach does not sign because of your stupidities, Texas Tech needs to kick both your butts out, replace you both with some intelligent people and sign Leach. This is horendous and you dang well know it.

While I agree in principle, I bet at least 1 and more likely most (if not all) of the added provisions deal with keeping Leach in Lubbock. (an expensive buyout, possibly requirements for interviewing, etc) And considering how things have gone with Leach where (it seems like) every year he’s talking to other schools, I gotta be honest that I wouldn’t mind the school trying to lock him in. And frankly, if we lose Leach over clauses designed to keep him here, then obviously he doesn’t wanna stay.
That said, if the clauses are NOT things designed to keep him (and instead ARE “booster glad-handling” or “appearances” or some other nonsense) then yeah, drop those pronto and get this thing done. But even Leach admits that the contract situation has hurt recruiting and I’m CERTAIN that his employment status hurt our team’s PLAY down the stretch. So, with that in mind I hope the school DOES “lock” him in if we get this thing done. And if we can’t, then we’ve got 2 years to look for a replacement. (which I do NOT want to do, but… whatcha gonna do)
