• LAJ's Don Williams has the video of Captain Leach breakdown this year's class and thumbnails about each recruit and comments from Leach:

  Tulsa, Okla., DT Pearlie Graves: "Personifies defensive tackle. Aggressive, physical. One of those national guys and justifiably so.’’

  "I'm gonna be honest, it was pretty intense," said the 5-foot-11, 190-pounder. "I didn't know what I was getting myself into because I was just right out of high school. I was like, 'Oh, I'm about to breeze through this.' Then I found myself gasping for air, I was like 'Oh my goodness, this is college.'"

• DMN's Brandon George looks at this year's class:

  Friendswood's Jacob Karam was rated as one of the nation's top dual-threat quarterbacks. He'll fit right into the Red Raiders' system because he's smart, has a strong arm, a quick delivery and great footwork.

• LAJ's Don Williams looks at the two 4-star defensive tackles and Ruffin McNeill is a happy defensive coordinator:

  McNeill said Graves will be tried at both defensive tackle and defensive end. Graves said he is 6-foot-3 and 264 pounds, pretty similar in size to current Tech defensive tackle Ra’Jon Henley. But McNeill said he is comparable to both the Raiders’ interior starters - quick and powerful like Henley, a high school wrestler with balance like Colby Whitlock.

• LAJ's Don Williams talks about Trevor Reilly:

  Some have asked about Trevor Reilly, the defensive end prospect listed as a Tech commitment by the Rivals.com and Scout.com recruiting services. He’s close to finishing a two-year Mormon mission in Sweden and is expected to be back stateside in March. He’ll join the program in the summer.

• ESPN's Big 12 blogger Tim Griffin reviews this year's class:

  "Each year we keep improving with the classes we bring in," Leach said. "I'm excited about this group and getting them in here. Our coaching staff deserves the credit for staying with these guys and remaining committed to them through the process. We were able to address some areas of need with some of the top high school and junior college talent."

• FWST's Dwain Price checks in on this year's class:

  Needing vital help in the offensive line, the secondary, the defensive line and at wide receiver, the Raiders were able to fill those needs with some top-notched players. Rivals.com rated the Raiders' recruiting class as the 34th-best in the nation.

• LAJ's Don Williams with more on defensive end/linebacker, Kerry Hyder:

  That’s interesting because I know Tech coaches thought back during the recruiting process that Hyder might project at the Joker rush position they put into the package this season. That’s the standup, walk-around, rush-from-anywhere spot manned mostly by Daniel Howard and occasionally by Brandon Williams and Sandy Riley.

• The Chron's Jenny Dial looks at Texas Tech's class and has a short Q&A with Jacob Karam:

  Q: How excited are you as a quarterback to enter the Texas Tech system?

  A: It's the perfect system for a quarterback. I love it. I can't wait to get there and start playing. I am going to keep my arm fresh by throwing to a lot of talented receivers here until I head to Lubbock in the summer.

No Deal Yet at the Cotton Bowl with Baylor

DMN's Dallas City Hall Blog says that there's still no deal between Baylor and Texas Tech, but everyone is waiting on the Red Raiders:

"It isn't soup yet. There isn't a deal," Dyer said. "Baylor is ready and Texas Tech is still on the fence. There is not yet anything from Tech."

Red Raiders Lose to Cowboys

LAJ's Jeff Walker details how Oklahoma State came back from down by 16 to beat Texas Tech. I couldn't watch the game (no ESPNU) but at the very least, the Red Raiders are keeping it close (boxscore) and they're competing every time they go out on the court. The difference in the game was Byron Eaton shooting 20 free throws. I'm not sure how that happens, especially only on 7 shots, but damn that's a lot of fouls and free throws.

Coach Pat Knight is keeping his chin up and is encouraging his team:

"Great effort. I mean, I feel bad for these guys," Tech head coach Pat Knight said. "You hit a layup here or there it’s a different story. I just feel bad for them. They deserved to win that (when) you play on the road and give that type of effort. But, life’s tough. You can do two things - quit or just keep on keeping on. We just have no choice. We’ve got to keep on working."
