Proposed Cotton Bowl Game With Baylor

Just wondering what the Raider Nation was thinking and discussing about the possibility of the game with Baylor being moved to the Cotton Bowl. I for one am not interested in such a match up. At the risk of sounding like an Aggie bemoaning being beaten by "inferior teams", can't we find a better opponent?  I think playing Baylor sends the wrong message to the Metroplex and potential recruits. I've already been asked by friends if this is the best Tech can do to find a marquee match up in Dallas? The venue is not exciting in the least even with the new renovations. Access and parking are still the same crowded mess they have always been. I can't see any prestige in playing in the Cotton Bowl.  What will area high school players think? A&M will be playing in Jerry World where the Super Bowl will be played and Tech is playing in the Cotton Bowl where, well nothing of note will be played once Texas OU completes their contract. Maybe there are reasons why we should not play in Jerry World or better opponents are not available. Maybe the Cotton Bowl is a better or more lucrative venue than I think. Please let me know?  I may not have all the facts and I really want to hear what you think.

Bad idea, Bad venue[Cotton Bowl], and Bad team. Looks as though we are taking a back seat to the venue[ vs. Jerry’s World,] and Baylor? Tech has historically played bad in the C-Bowl. Leave the schedule alone or do it up right.

I am against us playing in any venue

that would require me to wear a bullet-proof vest to attend the game.

Seriously, anyone ever been in or around Fair Park at night? YIKES!

Baylor is a nice school but not a rivalry by any means.

There was a shooting at the Kwaanza celebration in fair park this year

We (I of course live in a northern ’burb) can thank the good for nothing Dallas city council and old sea hag mayor Laura MIller for letting Jerry World get away to Arlington. They could have razed 5 square miles and put the new stadium in Fair Park and built-up that part of Dallas. They are letting Deep Ellum wither on the vine w/o police protection and no one with a right mind will go out there for entertainment any more.

BAYLOR? Seriously? I guess the alums they have…. DO have money to come to the game, but do they have enough alums? We have enough alums and Tee-shirt fans to fill up 60k seats, but does Baylor even have Tee-shirt fans outside of McClellan County?

I want Jerry World and State dammit! But I’ll go to the game. I loved the feeling of out manning the SMU crowd in Dallas in 2007. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tq1mRqDtIkI

A&M versus Baylor

A much better venue as that is their competition among south div. teams. Tech playing Baylor in Waco is always fun. I agree that the cotton bowl location does nothing for Tech. As a season ticket holder living in Plano I am against it. A much better game would be against OSU.

OSU AT JERRY’S PLACE SOUNDS BETTER

Baylor Home game?

I don’t mind playin in Dallas as long as it’s at Six Flags over Jerry and it is Baylor’s year to be at home. Cause it really would be a home game for us but we should never have less than 6 games in the Jones and probably not less than 7. So if Baylor wants their home game to be in Arlington then let’s have at it!!!! Wreck’em Tech Keep Leach

The Cotton Bowl is terrible

I would rather play every game in Waco than go to the Cotton Bowl. That place is awful. Is it the $100,000 in travel cost that is keeping us from playing in the Cowboys stadium?

We should make the CB or Jerry

Kick in travel money for the Goin Band as part of the Contract.

Only good for Baylor....

How could anyone see this as a win for Tech??? I mean Tech sells out almost ALL of their home games, and they want us to split profits with a team that barely gets the family of the players to come out?

God, on top of that, I was at the cotton Bowl this year and it was miserable… I had never seen a stadium where every single concession stand had run out of beverages. On top of that, you feel like a rat tunneling through a rickety old ship in that place.

The only way I could see a Cotton Bowl game being enticing AT ALL, is if it were with OSU.

Stay at home

We are just getting the east side restructured and that within it’self is motive to STAY HOME.And not to mention I really believe that within five years the noth end zone will be completed to handle 70-80 thousand fans per game.So it’s best to keep the money here.Of course I have heard the(so called) AD’S saying they would not want a stadium with empty seats. That is just plain stupid.’OH YE OF LITTLE FAITH".It is sad that our own AD"S have such small ambitions.Myers said before the Texas game"I wish I had 10,000 more seats"Then he says that he is worried that the stadium would look empty. There are plenty of fans that do not attend because of(limited)seating right now.So MYERS,stay at home, build it,and they will come…..And I will add like I always do.I think Myers, does a good job.he just needs to get that what would we call (PIRATE ATTITUDE)! nuff said!!!!!!!

I agree with your spirit and I want new seats but,

I think we get mas dinero from a Dallas game or they wouldn’t even be considering it. OU/UT didn’t stay at the CB for nastalgia. Plus there are 6,145,037 people in DFW. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_metropolitan_area That means that the news spends an extra minute or two talking about US.

I think the fact that Tech is willing to go to the Cotton Bowl for only $100,000

shows how little it takes to get Myers to move a game.

Playing Baylor in the Cotton Bowl would not help the Tech program, mainly because it woul be bringing Baylor up to your level, and sharing revenue with them.

Playing in the Cotton Bowl is fine, because the renovations are nice, but you need to face a real opponent.

I would look for a long-term commitment from someone like LSU or BYU or Utah, someone who would be willing to sacrifice a home game for a non-conference game in Dallas that would help their recruiting. Start out with a 4 year deal to see how it works out and then move on from there.

Neb population (Plano Jeff)

1,783,432 is the whole population in the state of NEB. (plano jeff) 6,145,037 people in DFW.Facts stated-If Tech would PR more and maybe recruit in places like Clovis NM,Witchita Falls,Amarillo,Odessa,Midland,Abilene,(giving more of a push for attendance, and incentives). With the compared populations,If NEB can have almost 90,000 at their games then Tech could start to build a program likewise. This past year the highway between Amarillo and Lubbock was packed with Tech fans.Lubock needs to put down the (look at us flag) and bring more fans from the North.I get so sick of hearing about ATM and the Austin (shit) from Amarillo media and the likes.Tech let three great players from the panhandle slip through their hands.Look um up.They went DIV 1.And I scratch my head every year when so many vollyball players from Amarillo sign else where. No doubt Amarillo is a Power house in vollyball- state wide. And look at Tech’s record this past year.I might have gotton off the subject here, but when will Tech wake up???

Spike Dykes was the king of small town,

West Texas recruiting and where did that get us? Sure we gotta keep our locals like Zach and Zebbie, but we gotta hit Hou/DFW hard to hit the next level. Neb is the U of that state and they don’t have a Tech or State to compete with. The reason they were good was because all in state kids were not counter against scholarship #s back in the day because each county had a “scholarship” for them, thus leaving all NCAA acountable ‘ships for out of state kids. They HAVE tradition and that’s what keeps them going. I seriously hope we can put 90k butts on Jones some day, but that is sooo unrealistic now. Look at how good K State was during 90’s and their stadium is like 50k. Okie St. Is pretty good, within an hour of
2mil people and T Boone is only now surpassing 50k.

Not playing a neutral site game is what we’ve always done and where has that gotten us? We have an opportunity to play in our 2 largest population centers with UH and a Dallas game. I don’t have the energy to fix my typos.

I see your point

Yeah I see your point,I was just comparing the 364 mi radious from Lubbock to other metros.Hell (lol) the panhandle is a state within it’self, right…lol.I would like to see a game in Dallas, but take care of HOME first. And Baylor would not attract many of their fans.It should be a game that is high profile,Texas,or even OU?Yeah like that would ever happen…PEACE! “Wreck Em”

It really p. o.'s me to no end

that UT never has to play AT Norman. I think this point was made earlier by someone else. I also crave a real rivalry and I just always thought State would be perfect. We’re both step-children even though we’d both rather beat our respective U ofs, there seems to be a good little natural rivalry growing. Baylor is just so deflating.
