Another one down, one to go toward college sports immortality. Sally Kipyego tied an NCAA record for individual national championships won Friday night, and the Texas Tech senior left plenty of energy for her quest to break it Saturday.
Kipyego wrapped up her ninth national championship, winning the 5,000-meter run in the NCAA indoor track and field championships at Texas A&M’s Gilliam Indoor Track Stadium.
Kipyego ran a facility-record time of 15 minutes, 51.14 seconds to win by seven seconds, watching the early pacesetter burn out far from the finish line.
"It comes back to a lot of hard work and a lot of people have helped me, and I could not have achieved this much success without the support from fans, Texas Tech athletics and so many others," said Kipyego, a 23-year-old Kenyan. "People have sent me cards and sent their support. It has played a major role in my success."

Just missed.
Fantastic effort by Sally Kipyego just falls short by .01 seconds. Great effort Sally. We Raider fans are very proud for you and happy that your college time was spent in a Red Raider uniform. We all pray that the future will be bright and God will be your guide
