re: If Kentucky lets go of Billy Gillespie, does Tech make a move?

Does Texas Tech make a move and go after him?  I have to admit, I am one of those hardcore Tech football fans, but lukewarm when it comes to basketball.   I do not know what direction our program is heading with Pat Knight.  I like the guy personally and he and his father have done much for the basketball program.  However, Gillespie had so much success at TAMU and recruited well in Basketball.  I am not sure how much loyalty Gerald has for Pat Knight, but I think Tech has to at least consider this if Billy is gone at Kentucky.  I would like to hear what you guys think.

Gillespie won’t be fired from Kentucky, and even if he was, Tech doesn’t have the resources to contend with other programs that would want him.

Our team played better the last half of the season, just caught very few breaks. Pat Knight had them fighting hard for 40 minutes in every game, and that’s a lot to ask of a coach that’s playing with mostly the classes of another coach. We have a good class coming in (at least by our standards), so I think we should give Knight adequate time to try to build his own program.

After all is said and done, more is said than done.

Okay, nevermind, I was apparently wrong about Gillespie’s job security. Silly to fire any coach after two seasons — even Charlie Weis still has a job.

That is the problem...

We are only as “big” as we see ourselves, so it would be great for Tech to get a NEW coach abd start fresh…did you ever think that the reason we couldn’t get a coach like Gillespie has anything to do with the AD????

Look at Gillespie’s track record, and how loyal he has been to his previous schools. I don’t think he would be worth getting personally. Also Pat Knight only has one full year of coaching in the big 12 he has some good players and they should be alot better next year.

Plus if we got Gillespie he and Leach would most likely get into a drunk fight.

Leach doesn’t strike me as the type of guy who gets drunk very often. Just my opinion.

Leach is a guy that you can find out and about in Lubbock all the time. Rumor has it that he’ll also accept any drink that anyone wants to buy him. By now, I think Leach can hold his alcohol.

Leach is a big fan of Lone Star and Fox and Hound. Seen him there more than once when I was visiting over the years. And he’s quite locquatious with a schooner or three under his belt.

I ran in Leach in the bathroom at Moose Magoo's...

urinal, like 2002 or 3. He was shitfaced. I thought it was hilarious.

The latest rumor is that Gillespie is gone, Florida’s Billy Donovan will go to Kentucky and Grant goes to Florida.

This is sad

I really feel any program, at any level, needs to afford a new coach at least three, maybe four years to establish himself and his program. While the intrigue of Billy G. being available is exciting, we still have a coach who is still trying to establish his own and the team’ identities. If, in a couple of more years, it appears he is not making the desired progress, then Tech should consider making a move. Right now, though, Junior deserves the opportunity to succeed. He has been able to learn a whole lot of basketball strategy from his dad, arguably one of the greatest coaches ever, and should be able to tap the knowledge gained to do some great things for Texas Tech basketball. As such, we fans should offer him and the team as much support as possible.

Coach K's First Three Years at Duke were loosing seasons

I believe Pat deserves a couple more years. He finished strong this year. His recruiting is getting better … the JUCO route will tail off over this year and next … a good sign.

He’ll have a winning season next year.

Pat is the guy for Tech

despite a rough season this guy is golden IMO. Give him time as I like his style and the players respect him. He needs at least 2 more seasons before we start judging him.

I think we can judge him on this year. It was horrible. I am not saying fire the guy, but to not hold him accountable at ALL for three years is silly. But he won’t last.

Pat can't coach

We had enough talent to have atleast a winning season this year, heck we had a winning record last year when Pat took over and then look where he has taken the team down to? Another three years with this moron? Pat Knight decided to not start with Singletary in the game after his monster season because he didn’t want to spoil “bench production”, I haven’t heard anything more idiotic ever before. If not Gillespie let’s atleast get a coach who can atleast keep us competitive in the big xii like Senior Knight used to do. I mean all we need is a coach not a coach’s son.

Let's get Gillespie

I think this will be a good time to get Gillespie. He is a great coach, he will be awesome for the big XII. The results of this season showed us that inspite of having enough talent on the roaster the junior Knight could not coach them to a winning season. To those who think that the second half of the season was good, think again, Knight decided not to start with Singletary in the game after his monster performance because he didn’t want to jeopardize ‘bench production’. We want somebody less idiotic to coach our basketball team.
