Texas Tech Sunday Morning Notes - They Didn't Fall Edition

Texas Tech Loses to Iowa State

Texas Tech 76, Iowa State 78

I must admit that I have not had the opportunity to watch this game. The wife demanded that I do some work around the yard yesterday and considering yesterday was a decent day outside, other than the wind, I didn't argue much.

Back to the game, it appears that Texas Tech had two chances late to win the game, including a Mike Singletary and a John Roberson 3-point attempt to win the game (boxscore). The only story I could find this morning is from the AP and the game sounds like the typical game with Texas Tech this year. Rough start, storm back OR start strong, fade late. Here's Pat Knight on the loss:

"This is kind of the way our season has been going. We get two open looks at the end and they didn't fall," Texas Tech coach Pat Knight said.

Persusing the boxscore, it's strange. A game after Alan Voskuil hits anything and everything, he only gets 5 shots and scores 3 points. Damir Suljagic got the start and was servicable offensively with 8 points, but had 0 rebounds in 19 minutes. Mike Singletary was okay offensively, 3-9 from the field, but was a beast on the boards with 12 rebounds. John Roberson had a good line with 23 points, 8 boards, 5 assists and 2 turnovers. ISU's Brian Petersen, who was averaging 6 points a game, went off for 20 points, and only shot 3-pointers all game long. Probably should have jumped out on Petersen before 11 3-point shots.

Up next are the Aggies in the Big 12 Tournament and TAMU has been incredibly hot, beating what I thought/think was the best team in the Big 12, Missouri, easily. The Aggies will have something to play for, although I think they've already punched their ticket to the NCAA tournament.

Texas Tech 7, Gonzaga 1

Fanally, the end of the losing streak and pitcher AJ Ramos led this team a win. Could not have happened at a better time (recap). Ramos (6.0 IP; 3 H; 0 ER; 0 BB; 9 SO) was incredibly efficient and Chad Bettis (3.0 IP; 5 H; 1 ER; 1 BB; 1 SO) earned the save. I'm trying to figure out why Bettis didn't start the game, why he's not starting today, and I have no idea who will pitch today. I'm wondering if Bettis has been moved to the bullpen for all save situations, which would be okay, but I hate the fact that you may have taken away the teams best long-term starter from a starting role. Hopefully LAJ's George Watson will have a little more on this later in the week.

Offensively, short stop Joey Kenworthy (3-4; 2 RBI) led the way offensively and catcher Jeremy Mayo (2-4; 2 RBI; 1 HR) hit his first homerun of the year

2 turnovers?

I don’t know who keeps Roberson’s stats but it sure as hell seems like he has more turnovers than what keeps being reported. Those stinkin jump passes that are unbelievably uncontrolled have to stop.
