Texas Tech Friday Morning Football Notes - Tolerate Them Edition

Unless I get up really early, I'm going to be gone for the entire weekend. My old lady and I are going to my grandmother's birthday in South Texas. Don't be surprised if you see a football update tomorrow morning, but baseball may fall to the wayside as I'll probably be hurrying out the door at around 6:30 a.m. to hit the road.

Feel free to hang out, crash on the couch, or eat whatever is in the fridge, I'll see you on Monday morning, unless I just happen to get up at 4 next morning because I just can't freaking help myself.

Brian Duncan at #31

ESPN's Tim Griffin is ranking the top 40 players and linebacker Brian Duncan checks in at #31:

Why he was picked: Duncan was a consistent producer, leading the Red Raiders with 61 solo tackles and 94 stops last season. He also produced 2.5 sacks, led the Red Raider linebackers with two interceptions and broke up six passes.

What 2009 will hold: Without offensive weapons like Michael Crabtree and Graham Harrell, the Red Raiders will have to lean on their defense more if they have any hopes of duplicating last year's run to a share of the Big 12 South title. Duncan will be critical in that development.

DMN's NFL Draft Profile: Darcel McBath

DMN's Tim MacMahon is profiling potential players for the Cowboys draft and today it's safety Darcel McBath. Here's defensive coordinator on his former safety:

He's a really good athlete. He has good change of direction, good explosion. He has big corner type of ability because we recruited him as a corner. When we wanted to go to any type of man concept, Darcel was the guy who would walk down and cover the slot guy. With Darcel in the game, I had no hesitation about putting him on any receiver. That gave me great flexibility. It makes you more versatile. ... He does a great job in the run game. We would put him down in the box when we needed him there. He's used to [playing the run] from safety depth or we would put him in the box late. ... I thought Darcel was a solid tackler for us. He made a lot of open-field tackles. He has that strength and that punch. He had to make a lot of plays for us. He's a solid, reliable tackler, but he's not afraid to put the hat on you, either. ... He has a nose for the ball. He does a good job of playing routes, and he does a good job of going for the ball. He thinks the ball is his in the air. And he's trying to get the ball in the end zone when he gets it in his hands on an interception or fumble recovery. He's trying to score, a la Ed Reed ...
