Way Too Early Top 25

SI.com's Andy Staples has produced a way too early Top 25 and the Red Raiders are sitting at a respectable #23:

Key returnees: WRs Lyle Leong and Detron Lewis, DT Colby Whitlock, CB Jamar Wall.

Spring star: QB Taylor Potts. The junior from Abilene, Texas, looks ready to succeed 5,000-yard passer Graham Harrell. Coach Mike Leach usually waits until preseason camp to name a new starting quarterback, but he seems ready to anoint Potts.

Spring recap: Despite the loss of Harrell and WR Michael Crabtree, the Red Raiders shouldn't fall too far. They bring back most of their defense, and Leach's offenses always put up points. Sophomore Cody Davis, one of the new first-teamers at safety, turned heads with a 100-yard interception return in the spring game.

Piecing the Last Scholarship Together

On the Red Raider Sports front page, there was a mention about Pinkston (Dallas, TX) guard Javarez Willis (5-11/170) potentially making a decision about his choice of college and since I didn't know squat about Willis I thought I'd find his bio on ESPN's recruiting database, which had the following to say about Willis' game:

November, 2008: 2009 prospect Javarez "Bean" Willis looks to score from behind the arc off the catch or dribble where he is streaky but has good elevation and release on his jumper. He also likes to attack the rim mostly going to his left where he is strong enough to finish through contact. Willis is an average athlete but competes at all times especially on the offensive end of the floor. At times he will take tough contest shots but he does play hard.

Also, assuming that this is correct information, Pat Knight and the Red Raiders are still following two players: Justin Jordan and Torye Pelham, although I cannot imagine that the Red Raiders could use another 6-6 shooting guard since Texas Tech has commitments from Brad Reese and Theron Jenkins, both in the 6-6 range and perimeter players.
