Hastings, a three-time all-Southwest Conference linebacker who ended his career as Tech’s all-time leader in tackles, died early Monday at his mother’s home in Arlington, according to his father. Fred Hastings, who said his son had high blood pressure and breathing problems, said an autopsy was being performed later Monday.

Great guy....Oustanding player.

Dub – Thanks for posting the news about Brad Hastings. My brother played at Tech at the same time and I’ll always remember how Brad always took time to include all of the younger siblings and family members. As a 6th/7th grade kid, he was certainly BIG time to me.
For those on the site who don’t know much about Brad, you should take some time to look up info and learn more. Many people point to him as the starting point of turning the program around. He certainly could have signed just about anywhere coming out of high school. Tech was lucky to have him!

LUCKY!

Actually, FORTUNATE! is the real word here. He was certainly a starting point for bringing Tech back into a competitive style of play. No doubt his talent could very easily have ended up being displayed at another school, like Penn State, Nebraska, Texas, Oklahoma, LSU, just to name a few. And the knee injury cut short a chance at an amazing NFL career. That would have been fun to see. When the phrase “The good die young” is said in the future, this tremendous person will always come to mind. Goodbye to a great man, Brad Hastings.
