Harrell in Browns' Minicamp
I found a couple of articles on QB Graham Harrell's day at Cleveland Browns minicamp. Up first is The Morning Journal's Jeff Schudel and head coach Eric Mangini had this to say about the QB battle:
"Graham's done a really nice job," Coach Eric Mangini said Friday after the second practice of the rookie camp. "He picked up the information easily. He did a nice job, not just with his throws but with the huddle mechanics — absorbing the information and being able to run the offense."This is challenging for a quarterback because every person is brand new. All the terminology is unique to all those people. The quarterback is in charge of making sure it's right."
The Plain Dealer's Bill Livingston opines that Harrell absolutely deserves the chance the Browns are giving him.

McBath is Alright
Gainsville Daily Register's Darin Allred talks with some of the folks who know Darcel McBath and how he gives back to Gainsville:
"I am extremely excited for him," Cordell said of McBath. "I basically got to watch him grow up when I was in Gainesville. He is a good kid with a great work ethic. We knew back then he had a lot of talent."

Rex Richards, Ultimate Fighter
LAJ's Don Williams sits down with former Red Raider Rex Richards as he tries to gain a foothold in Ultimate Fighting:
"I’ve always liked physical contact and a hundred percent competition," Richards said before Friday’s weigh-in. "Now you can make a pretty good living fighting. I feel like that’s where I should be. We’ve come a long way in a short period of time. Being an athlete has helped that out, but also being humble and learning the techniques is important."

Graham Harrell's Height
The Bill Livingston Article in The Plain Dealer says:
But it’s not just volume of fire. It’s Harrell’s height (listed as 6-2, but probably 6-0), which, inconveniently, is the same as Drew Brees, who has been a significant NFL success.
Interesting that the “experts” are pulling the same downplay of Harrell that they did of Crabtree. Even though its nice to hear the comparison to Brees, I think they are missing this one. If I’m not mistaken, Crabtree and Harrell were both listed at 6’3" on the program with Texas Tech. Tech should be more accurate when listing their players’ heights. The misinformation could have hurt Crabtree just a little.
But I think someone is missing on Harrell. If you’ll look at any photo of Harrell and Crabtree, you’ll see a pretty good difference in their height. I could have told you a year ago that if Harrell was truly 6’3" then Crabtree was more like 6’1". Now that we know that Crabtree is really just over 6’, I think it is safe to say that Graham IS somewhere around 6’2".
Had anyone else ever noticed that?
Yeah
I think Harrell is a legitimate 6’2" and his official combine results had him at 6’2" and . . . 223? I had no idea he’s packed on some pounds (I thought he was closer to 210). Maybe that’s why he was slow getting out from center :).

Is just me, or is this MMA thing going to end up sort of like televised poker? Get really popular for a few years, raise some interest, but at the end it’s not for your run of the mill sports fan. Sure, die hards will watch and enjoy it. But it will always be just on the fringe, to me.
Seems like as it has grown, it has developed many of the characteristics of boxing. Sketchy people running it, from the looks of things. The UFC seems to be the only org with any staying power which may or may not be a good thing. But they have had trouble with stars lasting very long. Seems like they build up a few guys as the face of the sport but if you lose a few times, you’re out. And from what I’ve read, everyone loses a few times. That, or the guys who do win are seriously unstable.
I don’t really have much of an opinion on MMA as a sport. The guys look to be great athletes, for sure. They are clearly tougher than any of us. It just doesn’t do much to grab my attention, though I have given it a fair shake and watched several promotions. Some of my buddies were really into it for a couple of years or so, but they don’t really watch much anymore for whatever reason.
I don't know
One of SB Nation’s most popular blogs is Bloody Elbow (20,000 visitors a day, compared with 1,000 for DTN) and they’ve teamed up with USA Today to publish rankings. I’m not a fan of the sport, but there’s a ton of people out there that absolutely love it.

Hey just wondering how DTN has grown over the time you've been here...has it been slow, steady growth or big jumps in visitors at times?
By the way, you do a great job here. Hope you got it all cleaned up around your house today:)
A chainsaw and a little time and things are
relatively back to normal.
To answer your question, in April ‘07 = 3,065 visitors; April ’08 = 12,763; and April ’09 = 35,698. You can find all of DTN’s stats by clicking around the sitemeeter (look at the bottom of the page and to the right or this link. November, for some reason, was a pretty good month.

I wonder why November was so good:)
I really think there is room for alot more growth(as I’m sure you do too). It is so good to have regulators here to keep everything in line. And I’m talking about myself as much as anyone. I got way out of hand a while back on another site. There are alot of people who would appreciate this site. But for whatever reason, they have not found it yet..
Yeah, I'm not real
sure how to get the word out about DTN. It pops up in Google News and 1,000 people a day sounds great, except when you consider that there’s a few thousand freshmen who will be attending TT next year.
Maybe I need to have “Tell A Friend About DTN Day”.
Still can’t remember what happened in November. Must have been a pretty big deal.
