DTN's Best of Lubbock // Poll for Best Bar

DTN's Best of Lubbock: I have no idea how well this is going to go over, but the point of all of this is to get it straight from you guys as to the Best of Lubbock. This will serve as a guide to Big 12 fans who visit Lubbock. We'll have one each week, with the first part of the week being reader submissions and at the end of the week, I'll compile the most talked about suggestions and make a poll.

DTN Poll: Best Bar

I've taken your comments and from earlier this week and today we put it to a vote.

I should also mention that I'm doing this a day early because I have a feeling that we may need a run-off over the weekend, especially with 14 nominees (if I missed one, please voice your displeasure in the comments).

Who has the best bar in Lubbock (in no particular order): Cricket's; Chimy's; Murphy's Pub; Cujo's Sports Bar & Grill; Rocky Larue's; Lone Star Oyster Bar; Texas Cafe & Bar; Caprock Cafe; Schooner's Grill & Bar; Adolph's Bar & Grill; Buffalo Wild Wings; Bash Riprock's; Recovery Room; and Jazz.

How an anyone choose BWW with a straight face?

by farmerdave on May 21, 2009 12:12 PM CDT reply actions

Agreed

People were up in arms about Abuelos being in the running for best Mexican restaurant but somehow BWW is ok.

by Boarder on May 21, 2009 12:25 PM CDT up reply actions

Cheap beer and good food.

And it’s probably the most crowded place in LBK around a major sporting event.

by the1austin on May 21, 2009 12:52 PM CDT up reply actions

I like BWW, but I really haven’t been to very many of these places on the list recently. Just not my thing I guess.

by TT4EVER on May 21, 2009 1:19 PM CDT up reply actions

BWW...

has very nice scenery and the televisions aren’t bad either. One last thing…cheap cold beer. Do you get it now?

by Raider1992 on May 21, 2009 2:13 PM CDT up reply actions

Just because sheep flock there doesn’t make it a good bar. The service always sucks at every BWW I’ve ever been in (only go there when outvoted by friends and in loud protest) and that includes at least a half dozen locations I can think of. Can’t recall any good beer specials either, but I have never been to the Lubbock location, only multiple DFW locations, and Abilene. Maybe the Lubbock BWW is a statistical anomaly. Doubt it.

I voted for Rocky’s BTW. 2001-2003 the $2 Rolling Rocks and FAST bartenders endeared that place to me forever.

Oh and the food sucks. LOL

by farmerdave on May 21, 2009 4:45 PM CDT up reply actions

So...

Is Crickets a sports bar? If so, how is it different than Buffaloe Wild Wings? And last, and certainly not least, would a 40 year old bald guy fit in there? Just lookin for options to fit my demographic…lol

We kinda like Riversmiths as well. I’ve seen several games there lately, even though I’m not a really big fan of the food yet…but maybe I haven’t had the right dish. It tastes very similar to Long Johns to me, very greasy. They always have the big game on the big screen, if not, ask them. I can eat just about anything and be happy though, especially if there is a good game on:)

Cricket’s isn’t a chain restaurant, and I wouldn’t call it a sports bar. There’s a small stage for live music in a corner, and the walls aren’t plastered with televisions. I’ve seen plenty of adults in there, it’s a pretty relaxed place, large drink selection, high ceiling, pool and shuffleboard tables that are sometimes free.

After all is said and done, more is said than done.

Cool, I’ll have to check it out sometime

really?

how could you put Buffalo Wild Wings on the list and not Fox and the Hound?

Wreck 'Em Tech!

I forgot the bar we used to go to for wing night. down off of buddy holly or somewhere in that area. Bleachers maybe?

That ended when they changed wing night to 50 cents a wing.

by kayakyakr on May 21, 2009 6:14 PM CDT reply actions

apparently, the entire place went under not long after.

by kayakyakr on May 21, 2009 6:19 PM CDT up reply actions

It has just been too long since I graduated to vote. None of my bars exist anymore except Adolph’s.

by Plano Jeff on May 21, 2009 8:07 PM CDT reply actions

Plano Jeff….Bash’s is still there and I left Tech in 92. I have not been impressed with Crickets or even Bleacher’s (before it went under). Lone Star Oyster Bar gets my vote…, never crowded, not a meat market, hole in the wall-ish where you can drink with your profs, and good scenery.

Threw up at least once every hour and half for 24 hrs after eating and taking a few shots at the Oyster Bar a couple years back.

The other time I was there I had a great time, but I just can’t bring myself to go back. I’m thinkin it was the food cause I don’t usually stay sick near that long.

Except that time I drank 3 Micky’s Big Mouths and half a pint of MadDog, then bonged the other half of the pint and two Coors Lights all within an 1.5-2 hours time…woke up in my dorm room 6 hours later with my own puke in my hair…lol!…yeah, I had hair!! I’m thinkin I’m very lucky to have woken up, even with thrown up MadDog on my favorite shirt!
