Don't forget to vote!
Saturday, May 9th is an important day for the city of Lubbock: Two ballot items that would legalize the sale of alcohol inside the city limits are up to be voted on. If you support this legalization, you should vote yes on each one.
Here's a myspace blog chronicling the campaign: Make Lubbock Wet!
I don't see why you shouldn't be out on Saturday to vote for this proposition if you live in the city of Lubbock.

if for no other reason
support this measure b/c it should help recruiting in all sports

Helps recruiting how exactly?
By making it a shorter drive to get booze? I’m not saying I support or oppose this measure, but if a student athlete at Tech wants to enjoy alcoholic beverages, it’s not going to make a big difference whether it’s available at United Supermarkets or from the Strip. If they’re intent on drinking, they can do it easily – everything that has a demand can be supplied.
I do think, potentially, it makes it more of a liability for student-athletes. Let’s say they run out of beer on a Saturday night. Are they more likely to get in their car to go get more if it’s just 10 blocks away, or 10 miles away at the Strip?
I’d say to prepare for a couple more DWI’s for the athletes if it passes.

More DWI's???
I would have to say that there are going to be less DWI’s when the alcohol is 10 blocks away as opposed to 10 miles. It’s been my experience that if it is before midnight at a party and the alcohol runs out…you go get more.

I like to think the “strip” adds a bit of charm to Lubbock and its sometimes old fashioned nature. I don’t live there anymore, but I never minded the drive to get stocked up on booze/beer. However, I can certainly understand the desire to move that purchase in to town.

I got a kick out of that. She clearly must not live within 5 miles of campus.

What!? It passed?
I need to move back to the Ol’ stomping grounds! I loved the strip, but damn! Now you can get a 30-pack at United? That rox! Would it be bad if Tech changed the United Spirit Arena to the “United Spirits Arena”?
