DTN's Best of Lubbock // Reader Submissions for Best Night Life

DTN's Best of Lubbock
I have no idea how well this is going to go over, but the point of all of this is to get it straight from you guys as to the Best of Lubbock. This will serve as a guide to Big 12 fans who visit Lubbock. We'll have one each week, with the first part of the week being reader submissions and at the end of the week, I'll compile the most talked about suggestions and make a poll.
A couple of groundrules for best hamburger and probably the remainder of these features. The submissions must NOT be on this list of national chain restaurants or this list of fast food restaurants. If given enough time during the off-season, we'll have a battle of the chain restaurant. I know that everyone may not agree with this decision, but I would think that the point of this is that you know what kind of steak you're going to get at Outback Steakhouse, but you need some one from Lubbock to tell you about the steak at Cagle Steaks and whether it's worth your time. If there's enough protest over excluding one or another, then I'll make an exception.
DTN Reader Submissions: Best Night Life
So let's hear from you, where's the best place to get your groove-on in Lubbock? This needs to be current places and not as you remembered them 10 years ago. The poll will be submitted on Friday.

man.. i’m pretty lame. I never really saw the "night life". Was more of a house party/LAN game/host friends kinda guy myself. Dunno if it counts, but Jakes, during my time there, had the best live music. Right after I left, they went to all-country and it sucked for about a year, but they’ve started to bring decent bands back in, apparently
Texas Cafe
A West Texas tradition – Open Mic night (Sunday) is awesome – a great way to end the weekend. Everyone from bikers to preppies feel at home at the “Spoon.”
I cannot offer aanything on this
Since I moved to Austin, I have not seen the Lubbock night life, at least not in the last 20 years or so. However, with the city becoming wet, it could actually have an impact on the night scene. Whatever is decided here could easily change by the end of the summer. This might be the Best of Lubbock item most likely to be different each year. So, whatever y’all end up with now, it could change in September. Also, with Lubbock becoming wet and the “strip” all but disappearing, there could be some businesses that previously would not locate there that will now consider doing so for that very reason. Just to add to the mix. So, this could be the most fluid of your polls year-in and year-out, right?

I'm disqualified to vote for this one, but
It sure was easy to pull some wool from the Midnight Rodeo back in my day. (93-96) I hope for you “current” student brethren, that you have a great meat market like that now days. Sometimes it’s hard to bag a 10, but two 5’s aint bad.
What is up with this!
I get taken to task for a 50 year old Groucho Marx quote, ( “women should be obscene and not heard”)
and you get by with “Wool,” “Meat,” and “Two 5’s ain’t bad”.
If it is Innuendo you people want I can provide that.
It was a cool west Texas night when she walked into the Blue Light. She was the kind of dame you would find on a calender, we’re not talking a bible company’s calender. She walked up to the bar smoother than foam sliding down a tall mug of brew, making Dick the bar tender rise up to serve her.
The pair of flesh Zeppelins staring at Dick almost made him impotent for words but he managed to spit out “what will you have?”
The Dame moved close to Dick pursed her big lips and said “give me a double entendre”
So he gave it to her.
VIVA LA FIGA!
BLUE LIGHT
Well I graduated in December so I’m assuming that doesn’t disqualify me just yet. But Blue Light was always a good time. They always had really good drink specials and good local bands and occasionally some big name Texas Country bands. The scenery was never bad either.
my favorite place to go is
the corner where the Library, La Diosa, and Louie Louie’s is. I like to get cheap drinks at the library (though it can be packed and crazy) but the entertainment is either a more laid back feel at La Diosa with some really good live bands (i’ve played there myself but not using any bias in this particular discision, i swear) It’s also good for entertaining the lady friend that might like classier type… it’s a wine bar for those who don’t know… or Louie Louie’s is a piano bar on the other side of the library, dueling pianos and usualy very talented players though it’s best to go on the weekends… gotta have a lot of people in a piano bar to make it really fun.
these places are located in the Depot District on 17th St. and Texas Ave.

Do they serve beer at a wine bar? I’ve never been to one but if my wife ever decided to go to Lubbock for a game, she would like this place.
Go Raiders . . .
Double-T Nation
They don’t serve beer. It’s close enough to a bar to grab one and be back from the bathroom before she realized.

I thought this
would go over a little bit better. I was not a night-life sort of guy (I’m still not) and maybe that the type of guys that frequents DTN. If this doesn’t pick up, I may have to change gears.

I'll help you out Seth
I am a recent grad and felt like I partied a good amount. The best places to go at night are mostly in the depot now. Blue light is good for live country music. The Library isn’t all that great. Most people go to Wild West for good country music and dancing and the Daiquiri Lounge for a hip hop club. Fridays is always good at Cactus Courtyard but moslty a frat thing. Me personally I loved Broadway. We would head over to Mesquites after class on Fridays for .50 cent wells and move over to Chimys at night for the best margaritas in town and if we hadn’t passed out we would finish up the night at Crickets.

If anything, I think this proves that I don’t go out enough, but those are some good options and thanks for chiming in.

they've now reopened what was the Ice House bar on Main st.
It’s just something like “Main St. Bar” but it’s usually got a decent DJ and pretty good drinks/specials it’s just behind Crickets essentially…

I think I went there one time..
But it was 18+ and was crawling with kids that must have been seniors in high school. Did not stay long….
I've done a bit of going out myself and can add other options..
like crabtreeforheisman, Broadway is a good option and then the Depot District.
there are a few other options that i’ve been to:
Bash’s:
Main Street and University behind one guys, generally has some live music in the back where i’ve seen dancing and what not go on, some of the bands can be hit or miss though… heard some really good ones and some really bad ones.
Whiskey Dicks:
4th and Indiana between the laudrymat and Double T book store, I’m not a huge fan of this but they’ve had some live bands there from time to time that sound decent. it’s small and can get crowded right next to it is…
Conference Cafe: it’s a larger place where i’ve gone in for a beer or two, seems pretty chill and more of an adults sports bar, less on the college kids side of life, certainly not always a bad thing
then there’s
Skooners: one of the most annoying radio comercials i’ve ever heard, but pretty good beer and good atmosphere. i’ve heard their food is pretty good too but i haven’t made it there. One of my friends played there once, but i don’t hear about live music there very often at all…
opposite side of town:
Thursday night pint night at Fox and the Hound: good atmosphere to chill, smoke a cigar, play pool/ping pong/darts/watch sports not a dancing/music kindda place but i love it. their patio is nice as well. and you just can’t beat their beer selection in lubbock

Bash's is my place when in town...
Pool, good jukebox, darts, ridiculously cheap beer and a great location…. It’s a true hole in the wall, when you order food they are always out of whatever you want to order, but you deal with it and have a good time.
Not really a club type person..
Prefer bars where you can have a good conversation over a pitcher or three. I would toss out the “Gas Light” as a decent place to get a drink (near the mall). Also, I think someone mentioned it, Wild West which is the same thing as Midnight Rodeo (same company I believe). Great scenery there and cheap beer with some great Texas country acts that frequent the place.
Wild West
always has some pretty girls dancin’ but it’s another 18+ place, that’s where all the freshmen and sophomores talk about going out to. but good dancing

You're right it is 18+ but the crowd just seems more clean cut than Main Street.
If you want to “experience” West Texas, I’d recommend Wild West.
Can anyone else tell that:
1. i enjoy going out
2. i’m very bored right now
??

mind if i ask what ya do?
i’m workin’ a summer job doing hurricane relief in New Orleans, exhausting but great. just get bored living by myself down here. yeah i go out, but it’s not quite the same without your buddies
