PrintThere's been a lot of questions about the number of starters returning and thought that it would be a great idea to ask you if you think the new 2009 starter will be an upgrade or a downgrade from the 2008 starter. Click on the player names for a comparison of statistics and additional information, but the big question is if you think that LaRon Moore and/or Taylor Charbonnet is an upgrade over Brent Nickerson.

that I’ve always been a dispenser of logical analysis. But I gotta go with my initial gut reaction here and say that these guys are an upgrade just by one fact (play) alone. Wasn’t it Nickerson who gave up the 94 yrd bomb that put the Horns back in the game last November?

I would really need to watch them play a little more. Being a smaller guy myself I hate to stereotype, but the decrease in height and weight worry me a little. That being said, had I been a little taller and heavier I may have been more attractive to other schools. What attracted me the most to Tech were the number of smaller guys hanging in there and beating the bigger guys.
Nickerson couldn’t cover the watercooler, let alone anyone with talent at the receiver position…anyone is better than Nickerson

Like Raider75 said, until these guys show what they can do, it is a downgrade, just because of the experience level lost. BUT, like the other two commenters said, there HAS to be an upgrade if we are to succeed at improving the defense. Brent Nickerson was not as fast as Taylor Charbonnet. If anything, his speed should help smooth things out. LaRon Moore, I’m not sure about. Whatever, we still need to see the results on the field to say it is or is not an upgrade.

Nickerson doesn’t start next year, which is why I did this.

I don’t see it too much out of the question that he does. he’s still in the mix.
The way I see it, there was really no true starter at that corner spot. Nickerson was one of many. He’s got 3+ incoming freshmen, Taylor Charbonnet, LaRon Moore, and a few other guys that are currently at safety (Routt, McCorkle, etc) to battle with, but he’s still in the competition.
