DTN's Community Projections // Tramain Swindall

DTN's Community Projections:

Tramain Swindall

#11 / Wide Receiver / Texas Tech Red Raiders

6-3

175

freshman

The Facts:

As a redshirt freshman Swindall had 46 catches for 561 yards and 2 touchdowns, in somewhat limited action.  Swindall redshirted all of 2007 and proved to be a fairly consistent option for the Red Raiders almost immediately.  Swindall started his collegiate career grabbing 5 passes against Eastern Washington, while his best game was reserved for TAMU where he caught 7 passes for 101 yards.

What I Think:

Swindall was a huge surprise for me personally and I really never saw 2008 on the horizon for Swindall before the season started.  In fact, Swindall had more receptions that Edward Britton, and he showed up for every game.  Swindall only had one game where he caught 1 pass, against Nebraska, otherwise he was involved, and that's significant.  I mentioned the other day that I'm personally cheering for Swindall, not sure why, and I've got a feeling that he could really burst onto the scene this year.

Tramain Swindall will challenge Detron Lewis for the team lead receptions and yards. You heard it here first!!!

PS: he’s not a freshman, he’s a sophomore isnt he?

Yeah,

the service that SB Nation uses to gather their stats, have not updated their rosters. He should be a sophomore in 2009.

While I really like TS, and feel he is a gamer, I have to believe Detron, Easy Ed Britton, and LL are in the mix and I don’t know if there are that many touchdowns to go around. I also am not sure of ML’s intentions for Zouzalik. I certainly hope I’m wrong , but I do see him with alot of catches and yards and since it was a long time ago since I said it, I’ll reiterate that I just think Tramain is a superb “possession” reciever, I would hate to have anyone think I want him limited to that role, because he has the potential to be a better than average “Tech” YAC reciever, but I know when the chips are down(4th and medium), he’s option 1A, and 1B for me after a few 1st down conversions he made last year. One catch comes to mind, and pardon me for not remembering which team it was against, but he was in the right flat and there were yards to be had after the catch, but it was an errant throw and Tramain just snatched that ball out of the air and went to the ground with it to make sure we got a 1st down. That really impressed me for a youngster to do that.

Swindall

I hope he does as well as everyone thinks, but there are so many weapons, only a couple, Lewis and probably Britton, will receive over 70 passes. If the passes do get around to all the threats, including backs, then 60-70 receptions could be had by two or three, including Swindall. Is it September yet?

I just thank my Lord that this summer the Rangers are decent. It can be a pretty rough stretch around here when the Mavs/Stars don’t go deep into playoffs. On the positive side, I have read some good books and I’m cooking more/exercising. All that ends come Football season.

Did he

put on any weight in the offseason? His hands are great but he’s not going to progress very far in terms of YAC numbers until he can physically dominate the DBs he’s up against.

He didn't look overly

skinny (175) at the spring game. Granted, it was just me guessing, but I think he might be in the 185/190 range.
