Upgrade/Downgrade // Left Tackle

There's been a lot of questions about the number of starters returning and thought that it would be a great idea to ask you if you think the new 2009 starter will be an upgrade or a downgrade from the 2008 starter. Click on the player names for a comparison of statistics, but the big question is if you think that Terry McDaniel is an upgrade over Rylan Reed.

Last Year:

Rylan Reed

#74 / Offensive Linesman / Texas Tech Red Raiders

6-7

305

senior

This Year:

Terry McDaniel

#68 / Offensive Linesman / Texas Tech Red Raiders

6-7

323

freshman

I vote upgrade with a disclaimer: There’s no replacing Reed’s strength or his experience at Left Tackle, but last year, he was a shell of his old self. That ankle set him back a long way. I don’t think McDaniel is going to start off better than Reed, but I think that he will be a more effective tackle by the end of the season.

I agree

I think he will be as good as Reed by the end of thes season. So end the end i think he will be and upgrade.

and it has absolutely nothing to do with Reed I just think that McDaniel is going to be a great player for Tech.

Obviously..

we know how good Reed was but the jury is still out on McDaniel. Given the length of play I feel like McDaniel will get to the level of Reed over time. Both are outstanding football players.

Downgrade...but

with the caveat that Mcdaniel will likely surpass the BEAST that Rylan was by midseason next year. if he can be 85-90% of Reed at his nastiest. We will be in good shape.
