Would you have ever thought a Texas Tech player would ever grace the cover?

Yes

Some of you remember a few pretty darn good players in Tech’s past that could have been picked for the cover of NCAA FOOTBALL-10, if it was operational during their time.

They would have been:

  • Donnie Anderson, RB→ Mister All-America everything back in the mid 60’s & 1st round pick by Green Bay, who signed the largest contract in history in the NFL up to that point.
  • Tom Wilson QB→ A great quarterback of the same era.
  • David Parks, TE→ Another All-American and 1st round pick in the NFL draft.
  • E.J. “The Beast” Holub, LB/C→ Another All-American in ’59 & ’60, then Hank Stram, coach of the K.C. Chiefs, labeled as the hardest worker and energizer he had ever had on his teams; that if he had a team full of Holub types, he would never lose a game.

And there are a few more (QB Rod Allison, RB “Bam” Morris, our RB Ricky Williams). So, yes, I can imagine a Tech player gracing the cover. There have been several great players, as you can see, at Tech throughout their history, with Crabtree possibly the best, but at least on a par with them anyhow. Just don’t sell those greats short when considering something like what is brought up in this post.

Not to be rude, and I’m a huge Tech guy, but there is no way anybody you named would ever but put on the cover of EA’s game. Crabtree is the most talented and touted guy to ever play at Tech. Yes, we’ve had many good and some really good players. There are even a handful of great players, but nobody compares to the talent and attention that Crabtree has had.

I have never played xbox. I have a playstation 2. I have every NCAA football game for PS2, I think since they started, but I am definitely not buying the Orakpo version. I think I am going to trade everything in for an xbox so I can get the Crabtree game. What is the difference between xbox and PS2? Does this seem like a good idea?

Get an xbox 360. If you have a hidef tv the graphics are 10x better than ps2 in my opinion. I have a ps3 because I like the playstation controllers better since its what I’m used to. Besides the ps3 being a bluray player, xbox 360 is just as good. I’d much rather have crabs on the cover too, i think brian johnson is on the ps3 ncaa.

What's an XBOX

And furthermore, will this game have last years’ players on it? I thought they entered the kids stats from 2009 rosters, computed their measurables, so a fast reciever would out run a not as fast DB. Will this years Tech team on all those games have Crabtree, Morris, Harrell, Williams? Could a GREAT video game player beat OU with Baylors players on one of those things?

They can’t have current players because of name rights and so on. They sign a deal with a player from the year before. It’s the same reason there are only numbers in the game and no names.

Just to further the point....

The NCAA ‘10 has rosters filled from the teams put together at spring games throughout the league. So Tech’s team has most of the players that will be starting day 1 represented… obviously there will be a few ‘odd men out’ if you will, but mostly updated rosters. Ive been playing it, and I have to say… its pretty sweet seeing Crabtree on the load up screens.
