Tech’s first practice tentatively is scheduled for noon Saturday — a firm start time will be announced early in the week. Nevertheless, it will be earlier in the day than usual, because Tech coach Mike Leach wants to attend the concert headlined by John Mellencamp, Bob Dylan and Willie Nelson later Saturday at Jones AT&T Stadium. "He’s going to go. That’s his cup of tea,’’ said Tommy McVay, Tech’s director of football operations. …

I think it’s fairly well documented that Leach runs a very casual ship at Tech as far as working conditions. I am not sure there are even set work hours, but I am guessing they aren’t as draconian as some of his counterparts.
I heard an inteview last week with Mike Gundy on an ESPN podcast (Ivan Maisel). He said that during the season, he and the staff get to work at 5:45 a.m. (at the latest) and usually stay until 10 p.m. Depending on how the game went, they may get there before 5 a.m. on Sunday/Monday.
Who’s betting a big hot coffee that Leach hasn’t seen that side of 5:45 a.m. in a looong time? Unless he’s wandering in from a wild night at about that time.
I am willing to bet that during the season he puts in some long hours at the office. I don’t mind him taking off for the farm aid concert because it helps the local farmers ie the local economy of Lubbock.
I hope I didn’t imply that his taking time off or not working draconian hours was a bad thing. I think the year to year results speak fairly loudly that his work style works for him pretty well. I am sure he puts in long hours; I just don’t think they start too early in the morning. Good for him!
I though I read or watch and interview where Leach talked about staying late midnight is and coming in at a normal time, but i can’t find the interview.
