Open letter to Michael Crabtree
I am a personal fan of yours. You won't remember, but I met you and helped recruit you at Texas Tech. You were, and still are, a phenominal player. You are a major reason why Tech was on the map last year. Without your athletic ability and sick hands, we wouldn't have had a chance to rise to #2 in the rankings. You said you would stay another year; you left. Can't say I blame you, with NFL fame knocking at my door.
Draft time came, and you slipped 3 below what you expected. We could all see the disappointment and shock on your face. You still went top 10. You still went to a great team. You still are making millions of dollars. So I ask: why are you holding out? You're attitude about money makes you look like a diva. You are given a chance to play pro ball, a chance that not many people will ever get the opportunity to experience, and you are taking advantage of it. If you want more money, earn it on the field. Simple as that. You are making infinitely more than most young and old people will ever see in their lifetime. People have been calling you a diva, saying you have an attitude problem and claiming you aren't as good as you think you are, and unfortunately you are proving them right. You have literally been handed a gift, and don't forget millions of dollars, to do the one thing you love: play football. Don't mess it up. Prove people wrong. Stop holding out in hope of making a few extra Benjamins. Do what you are born to do. PLAY.
As a fan, I ask you. Stop holding out. Take the money, and make a difference for your pro team. Play the game. You are letting the game play you. Show what you have out on the field and I can guarantee more money will come in. But please, Michael Crabtree.....stop the money war and just play football already.

in our paper said he was offered 20m with 16m guaranteed! Next year he will be lucky to be offered 2m.
20m w 16m guaranteed puts him below the #12 pick (with the #15 pick also jumping above him). I haven’t heard that either side has said, "let’s put him right at the slot and be done, though.
Sorry
Crabtree is showing why he should not have gone pro. Imaturity first and foremost and bad bad and I mean bad advice.
#1. Family is to be honored and loved.
#2. Money and family do not mix and cause nothing but trouble.
#3. Get a non family advisor whom you respect! Family never ever puts you first. Family dynamics always places others in the family before yourself. Thus You Mr. Crabtree will also place family first rather than doing the intelligent and smart thing.
#4. Get a highly top financial Advisor! One who will take 60% of your money and invest it so that when you leave the NFL you will be one of the richest men in America if not the world. Example my advisor will turn a Hundred thousand into 3/4 of a million in a 7 years. Imagine 8 million being turned into 64 to 100 million.
#5. Sign the contract! If you do not play at all, then you should have stayed in College. If you do not sign, then you make nothing! You can shorten the contract and place into it bonuses for performace. These are common. Yet your current manager is screwing the pooch for your career and may destroy it for good.

That’s what upsets me the most. He could be catching passes from Taylor Potts right now. He could be furthering his education (and maturity level). He could be securing a top draft pick for himself next year while winning a lot of games for Tech.
He could be the BMOC.
What the hell are you thinking, Michael?
It's too late
He followed bad advice and it’s going to cost him several MILLION dollars. The absolute best case scenario is that he re-enters next year and falls down to the Cowboys. Of course JJ won’t pay him anywhere near what he could’ve had in SF. This lesson is going to cost the poor kid millions. It’s really staggering when you think about it.
So, San Francisco goes out and beats the defending NFC champ on the road. Think Crabtree’s agent isn’t a bit nervous about his value to the team?
Looks like they had good production without him. But he could help this team…still don’t get it.
REC YDS TD LONG
Davis 5 40 0 19
Bruce 4 74 0 50
Morgan 3 38 0 14

Walker 1 17 0 17
Saw a write up
I read in a 49rd site somewhere that says that Crabtree is actually looking to reenter the draft again in 2010 if he does not get the money he asks for. They point to two reasons for this.
1. The money offered is below what is standard for WR at his calibur and that renegociations of a contract for a WR does not happen unless the team is really sucking and has no WR go to guy at all. They pointed out only 5 WR in the last 15 years that got to redo contracts. So there is some reasoning in the madness.
2. The other is that his manager is using Crabtree as a testing pawn for future clients. That the bad advice and poor management will hurt Crabtree financially for the rest of his life and may ruin his career completely with the NFL.
So pick which you think it is because no one seems to know. They also suggest that Crabtree may not be happy. But he is still on injured reserve. So its unclear if the 49ers are feeling any pressure right now to do anything concerning contract issues. Once Crabtree is cleared, then it will be interesting to see if he is cut put on the team or asked to be on the scout practice team.
I’d be shocked if the 49ers bend on this. Not because they don’t want him, but because of the possible precedent it would set.
I believe they have two first round picks next year. They possibly don’t want to cave in to Crabtree’s demand to only have to potentially go down this road again in the future with other picks.
If I’m Crabtree, I have to ask myself if a lost year, lost endorsement opportunity, lost respect in the league, and a lot of possibly lost money is worth sitting out all year. He can’t be traded to another team until the day of the 2010 draft as of now (draft pick trade deadline passed), and if he doesn’t sign by Nov 17, he can’t play this year no matter what.
I don’t see at all how sitting out gets him more than what’s on the table now. The 49ers know this. Will the fans revolt? Only if the 49ers are awful in the receiving corps. As it is, they could take or leave the guy based on comments on the 49ers SBN site.
