| Last week's ballot | ||
That's right, it's that time of year where you tell me where I'm completely wrong about where I've ranked teams. For those of you who don't know, Double-T Nation has been asked, my second year, to participate in the BlogPoll. For those of you not familiar with the concept then check out MGoBlog BlogPoll (who is in charge of all of this stuff) with succinct definition:
It's basically the AP poll except with bloggers.
It's that easy.
Make sure and read the BlogPoll Voting Philosophy and Rock M Nation's summary of different voting philosophies. Obviously, there's quite a bit of disparity between theories, and the nice thing about the BlogPoll is that it's all transparent and it's somewhat understood that there will be biases because we're all human.
It happens.
But I need you! Yes, I need your comments to tell me where I've gone wrong and where I've gone right. Given enough encouragement and comments, I'll make the change on each week's BlogPoll ballot.
Flimsy Rationale:
1-5: Thus far, USC has the best win of the season, so doesn't it make sense that the Trojans be atop the poll? As Florida and Texas get into the meat of their schedule, then they could and should move up. Alabama and Penn St. move up by virtue of me over-rating Oklahoma St.
6-10: Again, each of these teams get a slight bump because of my over-rating the Pokes. I knew better than to put them in my top 5, but it was an impressive week 1 win against Georgia, right? The nice thing about this is that each of these teams will be playing tougher opponents in a week or two, except of course BYU and Boise St.
11-15: I struggled where to put Oklahoma. I know that they shouldn't move up because they beat a terrible opponent in Idaho St. I'm not sure what to do with them because they're still talented. Despite the close win against Bowling Green, I still like Missouri to win the Big 12 North and with Nebraska playing Virginia Tech this week I think we'll know a little more about the Cornhuskers.
16-20: This is where it gets to be a real cluster-f. I should have had Cincinnati in the top 25 last week and I think this is right. Ohio St. doesn't get too big of a drop because I think this is where the Buckeyes really are. Houston enters into the top 25 as well.
21-25: This is where you just throw some teams out there and hope they win the next week. I put Texas Tech back in the top 25 because I thought that the win against Rice was what was expected and they looked like a top 25 team. Yes, I'm a homer. Oklahoma St. drops quite a bit this week and I struggled with where to put them, especially since there shouldn't be any way that Houston was ranked below the Pokes.
I meant to get this up on Monday, but was busy sleeping and being sick. I should have an opportunity to make changes tonight when I get home based on your comments.

approach...
so USC gets credit for a big win despite UF and UT’s big preseason predictions, putting weight on the team on the field, but Missouri gets a pass because of predictions, weighting the team on paper?
I think if you’re going to move down the top three for not doing beating anyone significant, it should only make sense that Missouri move down for almost losing to a team like Bowling Green. Problem I see, is that no one else in that section really deserves to move up. Unless OkState got too much of a hit. Sure, they got beat at home, but that Houston team looked pretty good.
