Week 3: How Our Opponents Fared

 Opponentsdtn_medium

What did we learn about our Opponents after Week 3?

More after the jump!

Star-divide

The Good:  Nebraska, UT, Oklahoma

The Overrated:  Baylor

Least Likely to Succeed:  Texas A&M, Oklahoma State

  • Combined Season Wins and Losses:  21-13
  • Week 3 Wins and Losses:  6-5
  • Most Significant Win:  UT survives TTU.
  • Most Significant Loss:  Baylor losing to UConn.  I think its safe to say that BU's preseason hype is officially over.
  • Least Impressive Win:  Tie.  TAMU surrendering 521 yards to the 115th ranked Utah State in a 38-30 victory at home.  OK State surrendering 301 passing yards to 108th ranked Rice in a 41-24 home victory.
  • Worst Loss:  The Nebraska loss to Virginia Tech was a heart breaker.    To surrender an 81 yard pass with 1 minute to go. To give back a touchdown due to one penalty after another.  Ouch.
  • Biggest Upset Win: TAMU over Utah State?  It sure seemed like it.
  • Biggest Upset Loss:  Games played out as most projected.
  • Number of Opponents in the Top 25:  Three.  Record 0-3.
  • Number of FCS Opponents (ex UND):  Zero.   Fortunately KSU scheduled Tennessee Tech and OSU has Grambling on the schedule next week.
  • Number of Opponents in the Bottom 40: Three.  Record 3-0.
  • UND Fighting Sioux Update:  The Fighting Sioux pull out a tough victory over NW State in Natchitoches.  Next game on the road at Stephen F. Austin who beat NAIA school Texas College 92-0 two weeks ago.

I like that we’re following UND.

After all is said and done, more is said than done.

UND

This is a unique team and school, where their people, for the most part, are very good sportspersons, as exhibited when Tech played them. I too shall be cheering for them to have a very successful year. No doubt, they DESERVE our support. What a really nice bunch of people. And the team is about as competitive as they can be, regardless of the opponent, and they play cleanly, with no unsportsmanlike actions. GO Fighting Sioux!

I’ve been chatting with the guys at SiouxSports since we played them. +1 on what TTpilk said. They’re kinda like us – moving things to a new level and trying to build the roster to succeed there.

Stephen F Austin apparently has a potent passing attack, but I think we’ve seen how the Sioux play against one of those. They play in Nacogdoches at 6 on Saturday. If it weren’t for the rain and our game on TV, I’d wander down and watch them. Scalp some Lumberjacks!

Mini Coop Road trip

The wife and I took her Mini up US 83 to North DakOOOOOta a few weeks ago.
If you are going to support them you have to learn to learn to extenuate your OOOOO"s.
You also would get together with some friends and have some Beeeeers before the game. We also caught a Rough riders game on the radio while crossing ND. That was a hoot, lots of “Don’t ya knows” and “eh.” The Elf did not put the move on some one he “Deke” them, and I kid you not a Hoodie is called a “Bunnyhug”

As a side note I sported a Tech Shirt and hat all day in Nebraska and lived to tell about it. Little old ladies in Nebraska know more about their football team, and ours, than Aggies know about Cow Poop. We stopped in White River Neb. and this lady who could have been Moses sister asked me about that Potts kid and if we still had that strange looking OL. She then gave me a lecture on the merits of Bo.
Very nice people in both Dakooooootas and Nebraska.

VIVA LA FIGA!

and i’m not sure what a bunnyhug is

"I've never known a man worth his salt who in the long run, deep down in his heart, didn't appreciate the grind, the discipline... I firmly believe that any man's finest hour - this greatest fulfillment to all he holds dear is that moment when he has worked his heart out in a good cause and lies exhausted on the field of battle, victorious." - Vince Lombardi

Hello

It is still nice for you guys to shoooooow up here at doubletnation.

All kidding aside, we are all pulling for the Fighting Sioux. I sure would like to get down to Nacogdoches and watch and cheer your team on, but as TechFirst said, we will be on TV and since I can’t go to Houston and see it, I will watch it with my brother here. I hope all ND alumni that are near can get down to root for the team. I will be cheering from my living room in Austin for you guys. Know that we at doublet are on your side. Go get ’em Fighting Sioux!

Legend of the Caddo Chief's Twin Sons...

Did the Fighting Sioux intentionally schedule consecutive battles in the two cities of the twin sons??
Natchitoches and Nacogdoches??
