Yankee Bowl
ESPN -Yankee Bowl will start in 2010
The creation of the new Yankee Bowl will be announced at a press conference Wednesday morning at Yankee Stadium. The new game is expected to pit the No. 4 team from the Big East against the No. 7 team from the Big 12 beginning in 2010.
I'm excited about this because if i end up going back to Washington D.C. area to work and Tech happens to end up here (though I'd personally prefer the NCG every year from here on out) it's a short drive for me...
with that said... I'm surprised by this... it doesn't seem like it would make money... yeah, Yankee Stadium.. cool, let's go see new york... but all the way from the Southwest to watch a team from the lower half of our conference play a team from one of the weaker BCS conferences??? doesn't seem like there will be much money in it at all...
your thoughts? would you go?

I think they're counting on the Big East portion to sell a lot of the seats
Rutgers, UConn, etc.

Yeah I'm sure Big East fans will be selling out Yankee stadium for a meaningless football game in the middle of winter
Not to mention basketball season

It doesn't hold that many people
I bet Rutgers, UConn, or WVU playing just about anyone from a major conference could get 30k+ people in the seats.

Prime Matchup
I say matchup the Red Raiders against the New York Yankees. Now I would pay to see A Rod on a drag route across the middle and can you imagine Jeter streaking down the sideline. CC Sabathia might be a load at noseguard however.

#7 team of the Big 12
I hope we don’t see this bowl to often but I could really see A&M locking it up year after year since they’re back.

Better bowl trip
For the team, disregarding the weather, New York would be a much better and fun bowl trip (if not better game) than Shreveport (Independence) or El Paso (Sun).

New York in late December?
Sounds a bit cold. What’s the northernmost outdoor bowl game?

Well....
WVU handed OU’s butt to them on a platter last calendar year. Please do not underestimate the Big East.
I thought the 34 points that the OU defense gave up against us would be the most points given up by them that season. It turned out that WVU gashed them for 48.
Why don’t they do even matchups? Why #4 and #7?

Big East...
Cincinnati
Connecticut
Louisville
Pittsburgh
Rutgers
South Florida
Syracuse
West Virginia
there are several teams that make a spot on the national scene from time to time, WVU at some point has a good history and all but the conference as a whole i would put as a "conference of Kansas’ " – big on basketball… sparks in football from time to time

I’m hoping Tech is never the 7th selection for bowls…

I'd love to play UCONN
I’ll never forget how terrible their fans were at the NIT in NYC. Security guards ended up coming over and throwing them out. Do you know what kind of jerk you have to be to get yourself thrown out of Madison Square Garden? Would love to rub some football in their face.

Wouldn't a Kick-off classic make more sense?
I know they probably don’t want to convert the stadium to a football configuration in late August.
But if you had a “Kick-off Classic” type game it would get a lot more attention and the weather would be better.
